They Could Have Played Today

I entered The Stadium at around 12:30, it was drizzling, and the tarp was on the field. It continued to drizzle until about 1:45, when it stopped raining completely. And there was still no sign of a game. At around 2:15 they announced that the game had been postponed. Meanwhile it didn't start raining again until 5:15 and that was also a drizzle. This game could have started on time and been over by now (its 5:51 as I'm typing this). It didn't rain hard all day. The morons who ran the show today really screwed up, and the only people who suffered were the fans, and it's a shame.

Opening Day was ruined by the idiots who allowed this game to first be delayed, and then canceled.

As we were all waiting for the game to start, I overheard a cop telling some fans that they were only keeping us around "to buy stuff," which if true, just makes things even worse.

Also, could somebody please answer me this; when baseball players became such freakin' babies that they can't play in a light drizzle?

What a joke.

They definitely could have played today. What a mess. How could they allow this nonsense to go as far as it did today. To keep people there till 2:15 only to cancel the game is a disgrace.

They wanted you to buy the beer, the hot dogs, the pretzels, and the souvenirs...and do it all again tomorrow...

Exactly, and that's the sad part. They toyed with the fans for a good hour.

They could have played. This wasn't just your average opening day or your average monday game. This was one of the last special games in this stadium. To us fans that means a whole lot. Looks like I now spent 180 bucks to see the Royals in August. Gill Meche better pitch that day...haha.

i can't agree more...It was the worst decision made by grownups in a long time. Did anyone see Cashman come out to check the field with Giradi around 1:45??? He was in his DRESS SHIRT!!! No rain coat, no sports coat, nothing.

If you are going to call a game because of "rain", at least have the sense to play the part. Disgraceful. A lot of kids there to see history.. and it was taken from them. SHAME ON THE YANKEES

I was checking the radar on weather.com and at exactly 1:45 it showed all of the showers had passed and there wasn't anything even close. I really thought they were going to play it. Garbage.

I'm still very surprised they didn't play today.
