Yea I didn't think they were going to put the grass down this soon either. It's really looking great, though.

I thinnk the grass looks fabulous but the tix prices will be so high that I may never see the likes of the stadium.

Greg Cohen said...

Yea I know what you mean anonymous. At least the bleachers will still be $12 bucks.

Anonymous said...

i heard the bleachers are gonna be $50

You heard wrong, the good seats are going up in price alot but the cheaper seats arent changing all that much. The bleachers will still be the same price, the lowest priced seats in the tier will be 20 bucks. In total 25,000 seats will not have a price increase.

Wow. Fuckin Red Sox are unreal.

As soon as Papi hit that homer, I bet Joe Torre and Eric Wedge turned the TV off and said "I cant watch this..."

Stadium is looking great.

As far as prices, yes, most of the "high quality" seat locations will be expensive. But the upper tier, bleachers, and some of the other seats will have either a very minimal price increase, or no change at all from current prices. There will be many extremely affordable seats, but they will obviously be in significantly higher demand, as there will likely be less of them than at the old stadium.

Still, the new Stadium won't be any less affordable if you're able to get tickets in the "cheap seats" ($20 or less).

And derek: I don't know what the Red Sox being unreal has to with Yankee Stadium, however, that game is definitely all on Maddon, who for whatever reason let Wheeler get crushed all over the park when he clearly didn't have it. If he brings in Howell to face Drew (like he should have), none of that nonsense would have happened, but even if you leave him in for that, you have to take him out after the double. You have to close out leads like that.

The Rays better shake it off.

This is actually the best time of year to put down sod (grass) Looking Good

the best part about those pics is that the close up seat pic is of seat #13 and NOT of seat #2

I'm a golf course architect, so I know a few things about laying turf.

Now is actually the absolute wrong time to lay new sod. New sod needs to quickly establish a root system, and that doesn't happen when nothing is growing. In mid-October growth is almost nothing.

Early spring is the best time to get the grass established, but since the grass here at the Stadium needs to be ready in early April, they have no choice but to lay it now and hope for some weather. They will likely cover it with plastic for times at a stretch to protect/encourage growth.

I know....who cares! But I felt compelled to clear that up.

Hey Greg - Where do you get these pictures? Do you know people that work on the site?

Kudos for all of the great updates you have had!

Wow! It's looking better all the time!

Now, your assignment is to read William Carlos Williams' poem "At the Ball Game."

Great pictures. Has anyone noticed that the dirt cutouts that were added to the foul territory running areas around first and third bases have been forgotten? I remember them being put in place rather quickly a year or two back as a reation to a baserunning mishap... correct me if I'm wrong.
Keep the great pics coming!!!

Pinstripes,

It has nothing to do with the stadium, but us S.I.H. faithful here like to comment on anything sometimes when comments are due, and there was no game thread. So Im gonna comment where I see fit, and that is following an improbable game, at the thread closest to the top of the page.

That good enough for you?

;)

And yes, obviously that is all on Maddon, Howell shouldve came into to face Papi, or at LEAST face Drew in the 8th, no reason for Wheeler to toss that 8th inning. Terrible bullpen management, Torre's not even THAT stupid.

It makes me kind of sad, in a sense.

But it looks great.

Ross,

No I don't know anyone who works there. Some of these pics come from Getty Images, and the ones with the grass I found on a message board.

And yes guys, that game last night was amazing. I still can't believe the Sox came back and won that game.

FYI, these pics as well as some more good pics can be found here.

They're on a bunch of the major New York newspapers' sites now.

Hey Thanks for posting the pics!! Please keep them coming, it will help shorten the winter. Really do like seeing progress being made. What is that under the grass?? Looks like some kind of hard surface? Thanks again!! Jay In Ct.
