Angels Ready To Offer CC Huge Offer?

From the LA Times:
The Angels, unwilling to meet Mark Teixeira's desire for a 10-year contract, are in discussions with CC Sabathia and could offer him a contract that approaches the $140-million bid extended to him by the New York Yankees.

The Angels appear reluctant to guarantee more than seven years in a contract for Teixeira, said a source familiar with the club's thinking. They appear more likely at this time to pursue Sabathia, with an offer in the range of Johan Santana's six-year, $137.5-million contract with the New York Mets.

Teixeira remains the Angels' top priority -- the club would sign him but does not want to miss out on Sabathia while waiting to see whether Teixeira's asking price falls. The Angels are not believed to have made a formal offer to either player.
If the Angels do come in with an offer more than Santana's deal the Yankees will have two options; let CC go to the Angels or offer him $150 or even $160 million, and maybe even a seventh year. CC obviously would rather pitch on the west coast, so if the contracts are close he will sign out there. I don't really care how much money they offer him, but I would like to see them stay away from a seventh year.

$160 million for CC would be a little crazy no? I think if he really wanted to come here he would have signed by now, I take this as a bad sign that he is still mulling other offers. I think they should shift some attention to Burnett now so they don't lose out completely.

As always, nice job man.

I don't think he dislikes NY, but I bet he doesn't want to pitch in the toughest division in baseball.

We are finished.

CC definitely does not want to come to NY. He might consider it if he were going to stay in the National League, but as it stands now, if the Angels make a representative offer, he will accept it even if its for less money. If the Yanks start talking 7 years, and 160 mil then they've lost their minds. CC has 3 years left at most at an elite level and after that he'll be, an albeit good, but a 20 million dollar #2 starter.

Jesus, didn't CC camp say that they were going to make a decision after Thanksgiving, so why rush or even think that he doesn't want to come to NY, this could be a smoke screen so that the Yanks raise the offer and eventually think twice about going after Teixeira also.

You guys jut relax and enjoy Thanksgiving and wait for his decision sort after.

Yes Eliezer! It is time for people to calm down and it also time for the Yankees to offer Sabathia money he can't refuse. What the heck, why not 6yrs/180 million.

There has been much talk about him wanting to be on the west coast. I've already heard/read many times that if the Dodgers, Angels, or Giants offer him something close to the Yankees offer he will sign there. Now I don't want to see that happen. I'd rather the Yankees give him a little more moeny to get him to sign here.

A little more money won't make a difference. The Yanks are going to have to blow any West Coast offer out of the water. They'd have to tack on a 7th year, and probably 25-30 mil more in total dollars. I really don't think he's worth that. In fact, I don't think he's worht the 140 mil they are offering him now. But, in terms of market it's a terrific offer, and if the Yanks could get him with that I'd be happy to have CC in pinstripes.
CC also wants to stay in the NL if he can, because he loves to hit and is damn good at it. A West coast NL team makes him an offer, and its curtains. Maybe the Yankees could sweeten the deal by saying that, not only will they let him hit when he pitches, but they'll pencil him in at DH agianst say the Orioles, and use him in a pinch hitting role from time to time. I'd rather make that concession than offer up the extra year.

I don't think he's worth that either.

I've read that people think their offer needs to be about $20 million more than the next person for the union to put pressure on him to take it. That's why I'm hoping they don't have to add another year. We'll see what happens.

I am hoping the Brewers are able to snag him. I am really sick of teams like the Yankees buying teams and not even making the playoffs. I guess I am hopeful that he didn't take the huge deal on the spot.
