More On Teixeira

From WEEI's Alex Speier:
Karl Ravech of ESPN reported that he had checked in with someone close to the Teixeira negotiations. According to Ravech’s source, the first baseman, who is the prize of the free-agent market, is in negotiations with five teams: the Angels, Nationals, Orioles, Red Sox and Yankees. Using the standards set by Torii Hunter’s five-year, $90 million deal and Alex Rodriguez’ 10-year, $275 million deal–both of which were signed last offseason–Ravech reported that Teixeira is in line for an eight-year deal of $22 million to $28 million per season.

Here is a transcript of Ravech’s comments this morning on ESPN:

“The five teams that have always been pursuing him—the Angels, RS, Yankees, Nationals and Orioles—continue to be the five teams pursuing him. Someone very familiar with the negotiations said, it’s almost fascinating what’s happened. Every time one team steps up its offer, the other four teams do the same thing.
Ravech is talking like the Yankees are still very much involved. Rumors were going around that they were, but a lot of beat writers have been saying there is no chance they will sign him. I think he'll end up signing somewhere for $200 MM over eight years.

Most of them give most if not all the chance to the red sox, this is like when we had little chance to land CC and/or AJ.

Yankees if they want him, should stop waiting around and just make an offer. If they want him that is.

Honestly, I just want manny for three years with an option for 4 if he is still swinging the bat well on that final third year. Let him DN. Done deal.

Seems to me, the Yankees are playing around now with the Red Sox, driving the price up. Kind of win win, if they make a higher offer, and the red sox pull out.. we get that star 1B. At the least, we make the Red sox pay for him.

We dont want Manny. He is a bad clubhouse guy, a huge baby and the baggage that comes along with that great swing and clutch performances isn't worth it. Teixeira is your classic, clean-cut, NY Yankee type. He is 28, not 36 and can hit the hell out of the ball. This is the first time I have ever had to consider a world champion Red Sox star on the Yankees and I HATE the thought of it. Boggs, Clemens, etc were all LOSERS during the curse years, but Lowe, Manny were all part of that 2004 that still stings. NO THANK YOU!

I think any price under 200 million for 8 years to Teixeira is a good deal.

Give him 8 years 198 million and call it done. That is 10% per year less than A-Rod.

I'm an Orioles fan and I know the orioles shouldn't be in the market for Tex. As long as you guys or the Red Sox don't get him I'll be satisfied. I don't want to see our hometown guy 18 time a year. You all should be satisfied already and even be angry that Cashman overpays players for no reason. See you guys April 6th.
