News & Notes

- In four career starts against the Angels, A.J. Burnett is 1-2, with a 4.50 ERA. Last year he was 1-1, with a 4.71 ERA in three starts.

- As I mentioned earlier, Alex Rodriguez returned to the field today for an extended spring intrasquad game today in Tampa. He went 1-for-6 with a homer and two walks. He face two different pitchers, right-handers Matt Richardson and Jose Ramirez. According to people who were there it didn't appear that Rodriguez was running the bases at full speed. And on his home run he trotted to first and then went back to the dugout.

Tomorrow he is scheduled to DH in an extended spring training game against the Pirates in Bradenton.

- Chien-Ming Wang has been cleared to throw up to 65 pitches in an extended spring training game on Saturday.

- Robinson Cano has a 16-game hitting streak.

Girardi doesn't have a clue, Swisher has only carried this team, so lets bat him 7th. It doesn't matter anyways, as long as AROD wears pinstripes, we will never win a WS. HIS ego won't allow it. The ghosts, baseball gods, etc have had enough, that 10 yr deal will bury us, if it hasn't already...

I tend to agree with you Mario. As soon as he signed that contract I felt that it somehow guaranteed the Yankees no World Series titles for the next ten years. Lets pray that gut feeling of mine is far from the truth. The year 2000 seems like forever ago. I can't take it anymore. A-Rod or not, just win number 27!

Greg, I was wondering if you could send me something along the lines of a banner so I can put it into my blog as a direct link to your Sliding Into Home site. Possibly a vertical one so I can put it on the side. Let me know...

The Yankees can win the World Series with A-Rod, are you kidding me? No offense, but he is the main reason the Yankees have been on top of the divsion since he got here (besides '08 of course).

If he had that full operation and missed 4-6 months, we would no question be out of the race.

Let's go AJ, let's go Yankees!!

Yes Yankeeboy98, I do agree with you that without A-Rod, the Yankees are much worse off, especially with Cody Ransom's bat in the lineup. I'll never forget back in 2004, before we got A-Rod the Yankees were "prepared" to go into the season with Mike Lamb as their starting third baseman. You have to admit though that he is most likely a giant headache to the players in the Yankees clubhouse. This, along with the dead weight on this team (which I believe to be mostly Matsui and Damon - don't bash me) is in my opinion the biggest reasons that the Yankees haven't had any success recently. Damon and Matsui add up to be 26 million in money that can be effectively spent on Starting/Relief pitching, along with A-Rod's monster contract. I'm rambling sorry I just feel having A-Rod in this line-up has more cons than pros. His extra baggage, combined with his poor showings in the playoffs are simply too, as Seinfeld's George Steinbrenner would say "In-EX-CUS-A-BLE!"

Real Yankee fans do not like a-rod and never wanted him and he's a major reason why we havent won.

Anonymous said...

Anon,
I partly disagree with you. At the same time you can say that real Yankee fans stick with their team through thick and thin, even if that means not liking certain players. (Jeff Weaver)

i know a lot of "real" yankee fans...fans that go back a long way...and when a-rod was originally traded to the yankees loved it...i can't say that they love him now...but i don't know any fans that didn't like the trade when it first happened...soriano and arias for a-rod soming off an MVP season...with texas paying around $67 million of his salary...i don't know who wouldn't have signed up for that...

your right. even the Red Sox signed up for it. They pretty much had him until the MLB turned them down. That is why I hate it so much when those idiots bash up for having a player like him.

"Boston would never take a player like that!"

Oh really?!
Pisses me off

Good start for A.J.

Why is Posada catching? He's terrible and couldn't call a good game if his life depended on it.

WTF AJ, geez, here we go AGAIN, HR DERBY, already pitch count too high, broken bat hit almost goes out, Yanks need to sue the engineers. I still think Cano should be batting 3rd or 4th.

al leiter traded for jesse barfield 1989

WTF, 4 stolen bases in 4 innings, word is out, teams are gonna run on us every chance they get... maybe posada needs some roids to heal that shoulder & work out some. for any idiot who takes PED's, if you can cash in for big bucks, guess you can buy good health insurance, u'll need it..

Anonymous said...

Great defensive team you built there Cashman. I really like that OF. And, why is Posada catching again? Because we want the opposing teams to score alot of runs I guess.

$40 million plus comes off the books after this season, Damon, Matsui, Molina, Pettitte, Nady, among other lesser names. Hopefully Nady can come back & be trade bait before july 31st, cause u know he's not coming back w/ Boras as his agent, How is this austin jackson's arm in the outfield, he sure as heck can't be any worse then what we have now?

Mario said...

Big hit MELKY, like most players with every big hit, his confidence only gets better... His defense was never the problem, way to go baby...

Mario said...

OK< TEX , time to get going, or all that money weighing u down, u can leave ur wallet in the clubhouse, everyone in there is a millionaire like u....

YOU F*&^%$# LOSER....TEX

Is Pena are next star? That hit was huge and hopefully he can play SS because we need somebody a helluva lot better than Jeter.

Ajax's arm rocks. He has a cannon. I would bring back Molina unless we get a real catcher unlike Posada. Ditto for Pettitte. I would get rid of .260 Xavier Nady in a heartbeat. Cashman should have gotten Bay which is who most intelligent people wanted.

Lets hope gopher ball Mariano doesn't give up this game.

Wow, 86 - 87 mph. That won't cut it closing. He will get killed this season if that continues.

AJ didnt have great stuff but it was a great game. Everyone but Tex contributed.

Great job by Mr. April aka Melky. If Cashman was smart he trade Melky with his value up for a bullpen arm.

Also keep Posada away from Burnet he is ruining him.

Hey people, I was at the game last night - got tickets last minute.

Fun game, great to see them start the homestand off the right way.

Joe, I'll have to create something if you want a vertical banner so it may take a few days. Right now I just have the banner above and a square logo.
