4/30 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will

(AAA) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (16-3) beat Norfolk 12-6: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yankees defeated the Norfolk Tide (Orioles) by a score of 12-6. Shelley Duncan paced the Yanks with a 2-run homer and a solo homer. They finish April at 17-3, a franchise record.

PITCHING: Kei Igawa got the start for the Yanks. Igawa threw a perfect 1st inning. He gave up 1 run in the 2nd on a solo homer to cut the SWB lead to 2-1. That home run was the 9th Igawa has issued this year and leads the league in that category. He threw scoreless 3rd and 4th innings. He gave up a run in the 5th on a double and single to cut the Yankee lead to 4-2. Igawa gave up 2 runs in the 6th to tie the score on 2 doubles.

Igawa's line: 5.1 IP, 4 runs, 7 hits, 3 strikeouts--0 walks. 78 pitches - 55 strikes, 4 groundouts - 7 flyouts.

BULLPEN: Jose Valdez relieved Igawa in the 6th with 1 out and a runner on 2nd. A RBI double tied the score at 4. Run charged to Igawa. Valdez started the 7th with a 7-4 lead and immediately gave up 2 runs on a single and 2-run homer without recording an out. Valdez got the win.

Anthony Claggett came in for Valdez and got the side in order to finish the 7th. SWB's lead cut to 7-6. Claggett threw a scoreless 8th after giving up 2 singles to start the inning.

Brett Tomko pitched a scoreless 9th allowing a single.

OFFENSE: The Yanks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning on a walk to Luis Nunez, and Shelley Duncan's 2-run homer (8). SWB added a run in the 3rd on a double by Todd Linden, Juan Miranda single and throwing error giving them a 3-1 lead. P.J. Pilittere gave the Yanks a 4-1 lead in the 4th with his first AAA homer. With the score tied at 4 in the 6th. SWB picked up 3 runs to make it 7-4. Juan Miranda walked, Austin Jackson singled. The runs scored on a wild pitch and rbi singles by Chris Malec and Pilittere. SWB exploded for 5 runs in the 7th. S. Duncan hit his 2nd homer of the game, a solo shot (9). Miranda and Jackson walked. E. Duncan and Malec had RBI singles. 2 runs scored on Nunez's RBI groundout and an error to up the SWB lead to 12-6.

NOTES: Shelley Duncan leads the league in homers (9) and RBI (28). Todd Linden has a 15 game hit streak. Austin Jackson is 6 for 6 in stolen base attempts. Jason Stephens up from Tampa to replace injured Ian Kennedy. Yankee pitchers held O's phenom Matt Weiters to 1-5, a 9th inning single.
