The Latest Washburn Rumblings

(I posted this at 2:30 a.m. so a lot may have changed between now and the time you're reading this.)

A few hours ago Jon Heyman posted this on his Twitter page:
yankees, mariners now talking washburn. yanks say no on joba, hughes, jax, romine, montero. otherwise, take your pick.
A little later in the night Buster Olney reported that executives from other teams said that they think Seattle will end up holding on to the left-hander. He also said that "The Yankees and Mariners spoke briefly about a proposal early Thursday afternoon, with the Mariners making a request that did not involve either Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes, but the two sides have not spoken since."

So that's that. Your guess is as good as mine, all I know is I hope they get him.

I hope they get him too. With one more good pitcher, we'd be a real force. Would Ian Kennedy appeal to them? He's fallen off our radar and is about 7th in line for starting when he comes back. But he can still be an effective major leaguer, especially in that park. Kennedy, Bleich, Betances, Brackman, maybe even McAllister, take your pick.

Of the names you mentioned McAllister Betances and Bleich are all probably being considered by the Mariners.

I don't know about the other two. Kennedy just had aneurysm surgery and Brackman can't throw a strike and is a complete mess right now.

True, but Brackman really has another year before we start to worry. I mean the guy had Tommy John and being that big, its hard to get back in sync. He has HUGE ceiling, but I agree he has looked awful.

You think Betances and Kennedy for Washburn would get it done?

I agree with you about Brackman. I'm not worried, I just don't think his trade value is too high.

I doubt that would get it done. Like Brackman I don't think Kennedy has much value.
