(Triple-A) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (2-3) beat Rochester (2-3) 6-5 in 11: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yankees snapped a 3 game losing streak beating Rochester (Twins) in 11 innings by a score of 6-5. Their record is now 3-4 on the season.

MONTERO Watch: Jesus Montero went 1-4. He has 1 hit in each of the 5 games so far for a .250 average. Montero had a broken bat bloop single in the 2nd. He walked in the 4th, had a flyout to center in the 6th, hit into a DP in the 7th, and flied out to right in the 10th. There was a stolen base against Montero as his throw sailed high. He’s 0-4 so far in throwing out runners.

PITCHING: Dustin Mosely made his SWB debut in this game. Mosely tossed a scoreless 1st inning giving up a 2-out single. Mosely gave up a leadoff single in the 2nd, but the Yankees turned their 4th DP of the year to erase it. He had a weird 3rd inning, striking out the side. But 2 singles, a stolen base, and a double gave Rochester a 2-0 lead. Mosely got 2 quick outs in the 4th then hit a batter and gave up an infield single before getting the final out of the inning on a popout to 2nd. Mosely started the 5th giving up a double, but the runner was out trying to stretch it into a triple. A 2-out double down the first base line was all for Mosely. Mosely’s line: 4.2 IP, 2 runs, 8 hits, 5 K’s--0 walks. 89 pitches--54 strikes, 7 GO-1 FO.

Zack Segovia came on in relief of Mosely in the 5th with a man on 2nd base. He got a groundout to end the inning. Segovia gave up a leadoff single in the 6th, then 4 straight 2-out singles to give Rochester 3 more runs and a 5-1 lead before being relieved. Segovia’s line: 1.0 IP, 3 runs, 3 hits, 1 K--0 walks.

Boone Logan came on in relief of Segovia in the 6th to get the final out of the inning. Logan gave up a leadoff double in the 7th, but got the next 3 hitters to get out of the jam. Logan threw a perfect 8th with 2 strikeouts. Another good game for Boone Logan. Logan’s line: 2.1 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit 2 K’s--0 walks.

Mark Melancon came on to pitch a scoreless 9th. He had 2 strikeouts and gave up a single and walk. Melancon struck out the side in the 10th. Melancon’s line: 2.0 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 4 K’s--1 walk.

Jonathan Albaladejo got the side down in order in the 11th with 2 strikeouts. Albaledejo got the win. Albaledjo's line: 1.0 IP, 0 runs, 0 hits, 2 K’s--0 walks.

OFFENSE: Lefty Mike Maroth got the start for Rochester. Jesus Montero had a bloop single in the 2nd inning, but was stranded. The Yankees mounted their first threat of the game in the 3rd. Greg Golson had a leadoff single and stolen base (2), and Kevin Russo walked, but they were left stranded. The Yankees had 2 walks by David Winfree and Montero, and 3 singles by Colin Curtis, Golson and Reegie Corona in the 4th , but could only manage to score 1 run to cut Rochester’s lead to 2-1. Corona’s single hit Golson in the basepaths. Eduardo Nunez had a leadoff single in the 5th, but that was it for the inning. The Yanks scored 2 runs in the 6th when Curtis walked, Corona hit a 2-out rbi triple, and Russo added a rbi single to cut the lead to 5-3. In the 7th, Winfree doubled, Jon Weber walked, but Montero hit into a DP to end the inning. In the 9th, down 5-3, Nunez walked and Juan Miranda hit a 2-run homer to tie the game at 5 and force extra innings. The Yankees won it in the 11th when Corona walked, Russo had a sacrifice bunt, and Robbie Hammock, who replaced Nunez, hit the game winning rbi single.

NOTES: Eduardo Nunez left the game after being hit in the hand while batting in the 10th inning. ... Ivan Nova makes his 2nd start of the year Tuesday against Rochester. He threw 4 shutout innings in his 1st start. The Yanks came in to this game last in the league in scoring with only 9 runs in their first 4 games.
