Parks Dept. May Save Part of Gate 2

In a report in the Daily News, Larry McShane reports that three balconies from gate 2 and part of the original 1923 Yankee Stadium may be making their way to heritage park. (hat-tip to the guys at RAB)
The concrete balconies include original terra cotta medallions with the familiar "NY" logo, dating back to the 1923 opening of the now-demolished stadium.

Though it still seems to be up in the air on whether these balconies will actually appear in the park where our beloved stadium once stood.
RAB had this quote in a letter from Josh Laird of the Parks Department.
“We are currently exploring the possibility of incorporating the balconies into our landscape plan for Heritage Field, where they could be identified as part of our overall package of interpretive elements...Although no final decisions have been made, we want to be clear that we will make every effort to find appropriate locations to display these items, whether within the park, or off-site at a museum.”
To me this is an absolute shame, although I was already coming to grips with the fact nothing was being preserved. Leaving gate 2 standing would have been a magnificent entrance way to the new park. Fans for generations to come would have been able to walk through the same gate as their parents and grandparents and at least gotten a sense of what an intimidating structure once stood...where we called home. Luckily, unlike the Polo Grounds and Ebbets field there is much more visual footage preserving the old stadium.
