Let's get the bad out of the way first, and that was the injury to Alfredo Aceves. Yes, another injury. He came up lame after throwing a first-pitch curveball to Jeremy Hermida with two out in the sixth. He was forced to leave the game with what was later revealed to be lower back stiffness. He's had back problems in the past, so this isn't a new injury for Aceves. According to reporters, he didn't seem too worried about the injury and expects to miss just a few days.

Besides that and an annoying hour and 14 minute rain delay, it was a pretty good day for the Yanks and their fans. What's not to like about a 14-3 beating of the Red Sox on their home turf?

The Yankees offense continued their assault on Boston pitching, banging out 14 run and 17 hits. Most of the damage was done by Mark Teixeira and Francisco Cervelli, with the two combining to go 7-for-10 with 10 RBI.

Tex went 4-for-6 with 5 RBI, and more than doubled him home run total for the year with three bombs. He got the Yankees offense on the board with with an RBI single in the third to score Ramiro Pena, who had doubled to leadoff the inning. In his next at bat in the fifth he hit his first home run, a solo shot off Sox starter Clay Buchholz to break a 3-3 tie. His second homer, another solo shot, came off Ramon Ramirez in the 7th to extend the Yankees lead to 7-3. He capped off the Yankees scoring with a two-run homer of outfielder, yes outfielder, John Van Every in the ninth. The guy threw him a 79 mph "fastball" and Tex destroyed it. In April, Teixeira went 11-for-81 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. After the first 7 games in May he's 12-for-30, with 3 HR and 11 RBI.

Francisco Cervelli is playing so well right now, that when Jorge Posada gets back into the lineup he might be seeing most of his time at DH. Today, the backup catcher went 3-for-5 with a walk and 5 RBI, and raised his average to .429 on the season. With runners on second and third and nobody out in the fourth, Cervelli blooped an RBI single into center to tie the game at four. An inning later he came up with two out and the bases loaded and extended the Yankees lead to 6-3 with a two-run single. He did it again in the top of the eighth when he lined another two out, two-run single with the bases loaded, this time giving the Yanks a 12-2 lead.

While the two players above stole the show, the rest of the Yankees lineup pitched in as well. All Yankees starters besides Randy Winn picked up at least one hit, and six Yankees had multi-hit games. Nick Swisher went 2-for-4, drove in three and scored two. Alex Rodriguez reached base all five times, going 2-for-2 with three walks, three runs scored, a stolen base, and an RBI. And the two guys at the top of the order--Derek Jeter and Brett Gardner--picked up two hits apiece. Gardner also stole his 14th base of the season.

CC Sabathia started for the Yankees, but only lasted 4.2 innings, and one strike short of a win, thanks to the rain. While he was out there he was pretty good, but clearly didn't have his best stuff. He allowed three runs on four hits, walked two, struck out four, and threw 50 of his 85 pitches for strikes.

All three Boston runs came in the bottom of the third, CC's only rough inning of his outing. Darnell McDonald got Boston on the board with a solo homer. Then, with two out in the inning, CC hit Dustin Pedroia in the thigh with a 98 mph fastball. This was clearly a little payback from last night and I'm glad CC did it, even though it eventually cost the Yankees the lead. The next batter was Victor Martinez and he hammered 3-2 sinker over the Monster to make it 3-2 Sox. I might be upset right now if the Yankees had lost 3-2, but a message had to be sent, and with this offense it was a pretty good bet that they'd score at least two more runs. They ended up scoring 12.

Five Yankees relievers combined to hold Boston scoreless over the final 3.1 innings. Aceves picked up the win to improve his record to 3-0 on the year. One of those relievers was Joba Chamberlain, who threw 1.1 hitless innings. He threw mostly fastballs, and he had a good one. It was averaging 94.59 mph and topped out a 96.3, continuing an upward trend in velocity for Joba. Damaso Marte, who has been struggling, also looked good in his 1.1 hitless innings to finish off the game.

The Yankees are now 21-8, have won six in a row, nine of their last ten, and nine of their first ten series to start the season. Tomorrow, they Yankees send A.J. Burnett and his 1.99 ERA to the mound as they go for the sweep. Lefty Jon Lester gets the start for Boston. First pitch is 8:05 p.m. and the game will be on ESPN.l
