Well, that sucked.

After two very good starts Bad A.J. made his way back to the mound tonight to get hammered by the Jays. He allowed six runs on six hits, including three long balls in six innings. After not walking a batter in his last start, he gave away four free passes to the Jays and only struck out two. Far too many fastball found the middle of the plate and the Jays didn't miss too many of them.

Two of the three homers he allowed came off the bat of Jose Bautista, who now leads all of baseball with 18. His first of the night came in the second and gave the Jays a 1-0 lead. Two innings later he made it 3-0 with a two-run shot. Toronto would add another run in the fifth on another homer--this time by Edwin Encarnacion--before the Yankees were finally able to push a run across off Jays starter Brett Cecil a half inning later.

It could have been a big inning for the Yanks. Chad Moeller doubled to lead off the inning, and Derek Jeter followed with a single two put runners on the corner. But Nick Swisher banged into a double play to quickly put that threat to bed. Cecil then got Mark Teixeira to line out to short to end the inning.

With the Yankees down by just three runs the game was winnable at this point. But if the Yankees were going to come back on this night Burnett had to stop the bleeding and keep the deficit at three. He couldn't, and gave the Jays two runs in the Jays next at bat.

With a five-run cushion Cecil cruised through the eighth. Using a very good changeup he dominated the Yanks hitters and kept them off-balance all night. That run in the fifth would be it for the Yanks, and he'd hold them to just five hits and a walk over while striking out five.

Besides dropping the game and having their five game winning streak snapped, Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada saw their hitting streaks come to an end. It was just a bad night for the Yanks. Luckily, Tampa blew an early lead in Texas so we didn't lose ground.

Andy Pettitte take his 7-1 record to the mound tomorrow afternoon in Toronto. Another lefty, Ricky Romero, will start for the Jays. First pitch is 1:07 p.m. and the game is on YES.
