Sabathia Shaping Into Form

I'm going to list three sets of W/L, IP, ERA, Ks, BB, WHIP and BAA from three different starting pitchers...

Player #1: 10-3, 116.1 IP, 3.33 ERA, 93 K, 37 BB, 1.13 WHIP, .225 BAA

Player #2: 9-2, 99.1 IP, 2.72 ERA, 74 K, 30 BB, 1.16 WHIP, .239 BAA

Player #3: 10-2, 88 IP, 3.58 ERA, 81 K, 27 BB, 1.19 WHIP, .239 BAA

You could easily go to a website such as ESPN and look up the players because they all play for our beloved Yankees. If you could pick one of these players... who would it be?

Personally, looking at these statistics, I believe player #1 looks to be the best. Most innings pitched, BAA is lowest against, lowest WHIP, most K's, 10 wins, very respectable ERA.

Player #1 = CC Sabathia

Player #2 = Andy Pettitte

Player #3 = Phil Hughes

There is no denying the fact that Andy Pettitte is arguably in the middle of his greatest season as a pitcher and should be making plans to head out to Anaheim. Phil Hughes continues to wheel and deal his way to the ASG as well, regardless of the fact that the now infamous "Hughes Rules" are in full effect. Javier Vazquez hogged the newspaper headlines with his atrocious start to the season and has been nothing but great since April. And while most people continue to dwell on the fact that A.J. Burnett has been terrible in his past 5-6 starts, CC Sabathia has quietly put together an extremely impressive streak of games.

Here are his statistics from his last 6 starts.

6-0 W/L, 2.00 ERA, 45 IP, 30 H, 14 BB, 39 K, 10 ER, 0.98 WHIP.

Let's be honest, those numbers are absolutely insane. It's a shame that Sabathia is only in the spotlight when bad things are occurring. I honestly had no clue that he'd been so dominant over his past 6 starts. I believe that Sabathia deserves an All Star bid! He had a rough month of May, but has been absolutely brilliant in June/July and pitched fairly well in April as well. Statistically, Sabathia is also a better 2nd half pitcher in past years.

Although this is only to serve as food for thought, I officially endorse Carsten Charles Sabathia for the All Star Game!
