News & Notes

- Joe Girardi officially announced that Andy Pettitte will start Sunday in Baltimore. However, there is still one small step before he can rejoin the staff, and that step is a side session tomorrow. Here's a pregame quote from Girardi via Chad Jennings:
“I want to see him go out there,” Joe Girardi said. “And I want to see how he feels after his side. Right now all indications are that he feels good, which is really important. It would be frustrating if he didn’t, for him and for all of us, but I want to see him go out there Sunday and see how sharp he is.”
- Nick Swisher is likely unavailable to pinch hit tonight, although you never know with Girardi.

- For those wondering, Royce Ring can be added to the playoff roster. According to Jennings, Brian Cashman said that because of a loophole that allows the Yankees to replace an injured pitcher (Damaso Marte).

- The Yankees are 6-7 vs. the Rays this season.
