Despite Tuesday's Meeting, Yanks & Jeter Still Far Apart

From Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden:
Despite what was apparently a happenstance face-to-face meeting on Tuesday, the Yankees and Derek Jeter still appear to be far apart in their effort to reach a deal.

According to two sources, Tuesday's sit-down in Tampa came about after Jeter and his agent, Casey Close, reached out to the Yankees to arrange a get-together. The two sides did not discuss where they were in terms of money and years, but rather tossed around ideas as to how they could bridge the immense gap between them.

Both sides agreed they want Jeter to remain a Yankee; the question now is how to make that happen. One source said the talks ended with the Yankees - who were represented by Hal Steinbrenner, Randy Levine and Brian Cashman - asking Close to get back to them with any thoughts on how to proceed.

The Yankees had hoped to hear back from Close Wednesday, but the agent didn't respond, according to a source, leading to internal speculation that it's unlikely there will be any engagement on a settlement before the winter meetings.

...The Yankees have not budged from their initial offer, despite reports to the contrary.
They also reported that Troy Tulowitzki's new 10-year, $157.75 million deal "is believed to have emboldened the Yankees in their assertion that their [3-year, $45 million] offer to Jeter is more than fair and reasonable."

According to the article, MLB is also happy with the Yankees for not going overboard with offers for Jeter.
