Four Yankees Named to AFL Team

Arizona Fall League rosters were announced yesterday, at least in part, with Yankees prospects suiting up for the Phoenix Desert Dogs. Teams generally send six or seven players, so it seems likely that another two arms will be heading to Arizona this fall. As of now, the following players will be playing in the desert:

David Phelps, RHP
Were it not for a shoulder malady, Phelps may have received some time with the Yankees this year. He's heading to the AFL to make up for lost innings and to ensure that he's good to go in 2012.

Corban Joseph, 2B
I would be shocked if Joseph didn't log some time at other positions, as he's blocked by Cano for the next few seasons (at minimum). I also assume he's being showcased for other teams, as his bat, while good, may not play too well in a corner.

Ronnier Mustelier, 2B
Mustelier looks like a fine bench piece, capable of playing 2B, 3B, and the outfield. He's mashed the ball since coming stateside from Cuba, but at age 27 I'm not sure how much upside is there.

Rob Segedin, OF
Segedin, a third baseman by trade, appears to be on the Brandon Laird plan. He'll be given reps in the outfield corners and at 1B to give him a bit more value.
