Yankees Claim Aaron Laffey, Garcia Placed On DL

The New York Yankees have claimed left-handed pitcher Aaron Laffey off waivers.

Laffey was designated for assignment on Wednesday to clear a roster spot for right-handed pitcher Chance Ruffin.

Laffey, 26, appeared in 36 games for the Mariners going 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA (19 ER, 42.2 IP). In his last appearance Tuesday night vs. Toronto he allowed 4 hits and 3 runs in 1.1 innings. Laffey was acquired from Cleveland in exchange for minor league infielder Matt Lawson on March 2, 2011.

To make room on the roster, Freddy Garcia has been placed on the disabled list. Laffey is expected to join the team tomorrow. To make room on the 40-man, Gustavo Molina was designated for assignment.
