Theo Epstein is a B****

From Ed Price:
Theo Epstein, general manager of the Boston Red Sox, called Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina a "bad apple" for complaining about the team's trip to Japan in 2004.

The Red Sox open this season against the Oakland A's in Japan. Appearing on Boston radio station WEEI last Friday, Epstein said, "Kevin Brown and Mike Mussina spent the whole time bitching about it ... and by the time the Yankees team got back from the trip they were all using it as a crutch."

Told of the comments, Mussina said sarcastically, "Yeah, we used it as an excuse for winning the division."

Said Mussina: "You need a comment from me about him calling me a bad apple? I don't have one."

Since when do GMs call out opposing players for apparently no reason?

What a douchebag.

*** Updated 2/28, From The Star Ledger:

Earlier yesterday, Mussina got an apology from Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, who last Friday called Mussina a "bad apple" for complaining about the Yankees' 2004 trip to Japan.

Epstein told a Boston radio station that when the Red Sox go to Japan next month, they need to "keep the (Kevin) Brown-and-Mussina approach from infiltrating our clubhouse." Epstein called Yankees GM Brian Cashman on Tuesday night and asked him to relay his apology to Mussina.

"That was nice," said Mussina, who added "there was nothing" to apologize for.
He's still a douchebag.

  1. Yea, cuz Kevin Brown has never been a b*tch*rollseyes*

As for Mussina...Dude was getting paid like he was a 29 year old Cy young winner, and bein a teammate of Matsui, he shouldn't complain unless he just cares about his rich self. don't let the pinstripes get to your head...

  2. Whether Kevin Brown and Mussina complained or not isn't the issue. It's never been an issue. Epstein should be focusing on his team and not bashing Yankees from four years ago for no reason. It's pointless, and I thought he was above that kind of nonsense.

And I'd be saying the same thing if Cashman were talking about a player on the Red Sox, but we all know he wouldn't do that.

  3. ^^^Kinda like how Hank pokes jabs at boston for certain "red sox players" that weren't named in the Mitchell report right after Petitte admitted and Clemens is basically guilty??

  4. First, Hank is an owner, second, he didn't name names. He said that Red Sox players were using roids too, and they were. There were cheaters on every team.

But it is common in this rivalry for owners to take jabs at each other. John Henry and Larry Lucchino, like the Steinbrenners have had their share of quotes about the Yankees - "evil empire" etc.

I have no problem if team owners want to do that, GMs are another story.

  5. The only reason they won the won the division is half the team was juiced up on HGH, Roid's, B-12, and Limacine. Mussina stop your bitching and keep throwing it 85 and 86.

  6. Gotta love the passion ... 2000 has been a while and Yankee Nation is restless. The NJ Giants victory has you guys fired up too, I'll bet.

Anyway, the Sox are on a roll and are NOT the Marlins, of course. Should be a great season. Good luck.

(BTW, I still can't stand Bucky Dent but admire the Yankee legends of old plus many current pinstripers.)

  7. Sara,

You know every team had cheaters. So stop acting like the Red Sox you know what doesn't stink. And the only reason Mussina said anything was because of Epstein's completely unnecessary comments.

Also B-12 and lidocaine aren't PED.
