Kennedy to DL Opens Door for Joba to Start

From Mark Feisand:
Kennedy left Tuesday night's game after three innings with the same injury that sidelined Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada for a few days during spring training.

Kennedy will be placed on the disabled list Wednesday, so the Yankees will need a fifth starter Tuesday at home against the Blue Jays.

Chamberlain is scheduled to throw 50-55 pitches tonight in relief of Andy Pettitte, a total which could increase to the 65-70 range in his next outing assuming the Yankees bump him the normal 10-15 pitches.

Girardi would not say whether Chamberlain could get the start on Tuesday, saying that he needed to consult with Brian Cashman.

This is probably not how the Yanks planned this one out, and with Hughes' and Kennedy's lack of success, and injuries, this is about as bad as their growing pains could have been. But hopefully, like those optimists say "when one door closes another door opens."

  1. Ian Kennedy is grossly overrated and I dont think he has major league stuff. Yankees staff could be in trouble.

  2. Ian Kennedy needs to be in AAA> I think he was rushed last year a little bit, and this year has shown that he is not ready to be a full-time big league pitcher. Look at how well he did when they sent him down a few weeks ago, and of course they had to pull him rightt back up...ridiculous.

Any word on a corresponding roster move?

  3. No news on the roster moves, but I agree with you that Kennedy has been rushed. That's why I think the Yanks are moving Joba in the rotation, because I feel they've finally realized this too. And luckily for them Darrell Rasner has been great.
