Yanks Looking at Brian Fuentes?

From the Denver Post:
Keep an eye on the Yankees' interest in Brian Fuentes, whom they have liked for years. New York needs a reliable late-inning setup man to replace Joba Chamberlain, who joins the rotation Tuesday.
Then there was this from MLB Trade Rumors:
Keep in mind that Renck is not saying discussions have occurred recently. But Fuentes would certainly be a nice addition for the Yanks. He has a 2.78 ERA and 2.63 K/BB in 22.2 innings this year.

Surely the Rockies are looking for a young player or two in return. The trades of Octavio Dotel and Eric Gagne last year might be comparables. Dotel required Kyle Davies, a promising pitcher who had not experienced much big league success. The Gagne package was headed by raw prospect Engel Beltre, and also included useful MLB-ready pieces in Kason Gabbard and David Murphy.

They also mentioned that if the price for Fuentes is too high, the Yanks would probably target Damaso Marte of the Pirates, who is 4-0 with a 4.15 ERA this season. But his ERA is slightly inflated because he allowed six runs in his first .2 of an inning, since then he's only allowed six runs in his next 25.1.

If I had the choice, I'd take Fuentes over Marte.

Would you go after one of these guys, if so which one?

  1. Fuentes falters in big spots... a symbol of his 8th inning role, for he used to be a closer and collapsed midway through the season last year.

Marte is a great lefty we've always wanted, and i still want him, that rough start to the season made him the most quickly dropped player in fantasy baseball this year, but since then hes been back to the old Damaso. Speaking in terms of striking while the iron is hot, I say we grab this guy now while his value is cheap.

  2. Maybe Fuentes doesn't have the stomach to close, who knows? Though he has been closing lately.

I just think he's probably the better choice.

They're both solid left handers so regardless of which one they get, I'd be happy.
