“We looked at him over a broad range of his work. His stuff is there and finding a left-hander has been difficult,” Cashman said. “I can’t say exactly what his role will be, but he can pitch from the fifth inning through to the eighth.”
The years are not too important because at this bargain price he will be easy to trade if he doesn't pan out. I am unsure what the bullpen will look like next year. Rivera, obviously, Followed by Bruney and Marte. Veras and Coke, maybe Edwar and Giese. Where does Melancon or Albaladejo fit in?
That's the good thing about the Yankees pen anon, they have a lot of depth. If someone struggles there are reinforcements in the minors ready to fill in.
I agree, as long as he doesn't go Torre on us and use this guy everyday for an inning, then he should be a good pickup. I like the route their taking so far. Building the bullpen while chasing CC. Can't wait for Spring Training.
Interesting, may be one year too many, but the money seems fine.

ReplyDeleteI'm fine with it as long as Girardi doesn't use him for more than an inning. He's a situational guy at best.
