This isn't Yankees news, but it's relevant since the Angels figure to be contenders in the American League once again.
After losing Francisco Rodriguez to the Mets and Mark Teixeira to the Yankees, the Angels responded today by signing Brian Fuentes to a two-year, $17.5MM deal. Fuentes will receive $8.5 million in '09, $9 million in '10, and has a $9 million vesting option for '11 based on games finished. In 2008 Fuentes was 1-5 with 30 saves and a 2.73 ERA in 67 games with the Colorado Rockies.
With K-Rod's velocity dropping more and more each season Fuentes is a nice replacement. Now the Angels have to figure out a way to bolster that lineup after losing Teixeira.
Angles can always use minors for first.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but offensively they will lose a lot without Teixeira. He really made them a complete team last year.
ReplyDeleteSee, I think the Angels system is more geared toward pitching. They have young guys who could fill the closer role. They needed (and still need) a big bat.
ReplyDeleteTex makes a complete team with any one.
