News & Notes

- As you can see, Derek Jeter is in the lineup so it seems his pinky is fine.

- A.J. Burnett is supposed to throw around 90 pitches today.

- Six players were added to the Yankees roster for today's game: C Francisco Cervelli, INF Carmen Angelini, INF Justin Snyder, OF Seth Fortenberry, OF Eric Fryer, and OF Melky Mesa.

- Not news but worth a read is this Q&A from NJ.com with the X-Man, Xavier Nady.

- The Yankees will dedicate this 9/11 memorial outside of George M. Steinbrenner Field before today's game. It will be placed at the entrance of the stadium complex.

Here's more about the memorial from Bryan Hoch:
The memorial will be dedicated prior to New York's 1:15 p.m. ET game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. It contains a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, which was presented to the Yankees by the "Gene O'Kane Division" of retired New York City firefighters.

According to details released by the Yankees, the grass that the memorial is situated on represents those who lost their lives in Somerset County, Penn., on United Flight 93. The foundation of the monument is in the shape of the Pentagon, symbolizing those who lost their lives there, including passengers on American Airlines Flight 77. The memorial's two steel towers represent the World Trade Center and those who died in New York City.

Steel and funding for the monument was contributed by Gerdau Ameristeel. Rustic Steel Creations designed and built the memorial, and will be represented at the ceremony by owner Dominique Martinez, and architects and fabricators Francine Messano, Mike Clar and Travis Olson.

As part of the ceremony, a wreath will be placed at home plate by representatives of the Gene O'Kane Division and Yankees general partner/vice chairperson Jennifer Steinbrenner-Swindal.

Stick around and discuss the game

  1. Greg, all it says in the Yankees lineup is Zach Duke. What the hell is that?

  2. Also, that is such a great monument to remeber 9/11.

  3. OK it's fixed. Thanks for the heads up B-Boy.

  4. One of my relatives died on 9/11. (He was in the North Tower). But I never knew him because I was a toddler.

Sorry to hear about that B-Boy.

  9. It's alright. I hardly remember him. But I have seen pictures of him though. My mom said he was a really nice guy.

Also, my Dad is a police officer for Greenburgh. So on the morning of the terror attacks he went down to the World Trade Center and went up to the 10th floor of the North Tower, just about 20 minutes before it collapsed. He got out and he stayed at Ground Zero for 3
more days to look for survivors. But he found none.

  10. Nothing much.

Today i'm mad because it's rainning.

    Whats up captain?

  11. It's just sad to hear 9/11. Many people lost there lives during that day. Many people have lost there lives in Iraq. We are very lucky that we can still go on with our futures.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Also, did you hear how they're re-naming the Freedom Tower "1 World Trade Center"?

    ReplyDelete
  13. No I did not.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't like the Freedom Tower that much. I want them to rebuild the Twin Towers (although that will never happen because the Freedom Tower is already above street level).

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well get another plane and destroy the freedom tower. (just kidding)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Liam, I know you're joking, but that's not something you should say.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I didn't know this. Theres another Melky in our systom. Melky Mesa. Very cool.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ya I know B-Boy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Also, if you have YES Network, they are airing a brand-new Yankee Magazine special all about the new Yankee Stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  20. After the NJ Nets post game (6:30pm)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Cool. Thanks for the heads up.

  22. guys, what's up! sorry i wasn't on long yesterday, i was putting down new flooring in my living room. (sigh), but anyways, what's up with everyone? did anyone get the sunday daily news paper with the yankee stadium guide in it?

    ReplyDelete
  23. how's it lookin? cause they sell the daily news down here in maryland, but they didn't have the guide (figures)

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Daily News thing was OK.

By the way The Freedom Tower is not longer going to be "The Freedom Tower."

They've decided to change the name to One World Trade Center.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yeah i heard about that. i mean honestly, i didn't care if it was called "freedom tower" or "1 world trade center" i honestly like "1 wtc" better. but it's just a name. if i had my way, i'd rebuild the twin towers!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know. I said that in the first couple of comments.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Whats up Chosen one?

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Chosen One,

EXACTLY! I wanted them to rebuild the Twin Towers, but after I saw recent photos of the site I realized that isn't going to happen.

First of all, they've already began construction on all of the new buldings. The Freedom Tower (1 WTC) is already 100+ feet above street level. Tower 2 is already off the ground. Tower 3 and 4 are just beginning work. So if you wanted them to rebuild the WTC, it would take another 7 years because they would have to remove the foundation, the towers as they are now, and clear the site all over again.

  29. liam! what's up homie! i was on top of the twin towers that august before 9/11. that was my first and last time up there. madd fun

    ReplyDelete
  30. see, every summer i go back home but i dont get a chance to hit up ground zero, i'ma try to get up that way this july! the only thing i remember is that 7 wtc is complete!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was up there once too. But I don't remember though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. One World Trade Center does sound stronger to me. The whole Freedom Tower thing sounded kinda cheesy to be honest. Kinda like Freedom Fries.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i had went with my summer camp that august. that was the last time i lived in brooklyn too before i moved to maryland.

    ReplyDelete
  34. captain greg, you are oh so right!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Captain, your right on the money.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I dunno, I liked the freedom tower idea, but one world trade center sounds good too. But I hated the freedom fries thing, that was stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  37. yeah, that whole freedom fries thing was just lame!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Alright the Yanks are winning.
