- This is CC Sabathia's first career start against his former team.
- In his career Cliff Lee has made seven starts against the Yankees, he is 3-3 with a 5.62 ERA. At the old stadium he was 2-2 with a 5.91 ERA in four starts. Last year he was 1-0 against the Yanks in one start, and in that game pitched seven scoreless innings.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.
God I wish I could be at the game today. It's really upsetting that I'm stuck at work. Oh well hopefully they win. Last two games they played very well!
ReplyDeleteD-Rob is here!
ReplyDeleteHey does anyone know if MLB Network will be showing the Yes feed, like spring training, or if they have their own team there?
ReplyDeleteThey are going to have their own team.
ReplyDeleteyankees.com (mlb.tv) will be showing the ceremony and 1st inning for free...
ReplyDeletecan someone post pics of the event?
ReplyDeleteI'll be flying up tonight for the games on Friday and Sunday. Let's hope they scalp the Tribe!
ReplyDeleteMike
First off I would like to thank Sliding into home for their coverage, and how much they put into this site between here an Pinstripe Alley, I do not miss a beat. As far as that goes I go to the game on the 21st which with the rotation it looks like CC will start.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I would like to point out, is the energy, enthusiasm, and smiles that come from this team. Also, would love to say I love Nick Swisher and am SO happy he is in pinstripes, the guy is an energy boost very much so needed !!!
P.S - ANybody watching pregame also knows that the first kiss at yankee stadium was between Swish and AJ. AJ was walking by as Swish was interviewing with Kim Jones, and he kissed him right on the cheek. Not only wierd but funny and great to see.
Lets get em boys, and lets get number 27.
Predictions
Jeter first hit
CC first win
Swish first home run
Mariano first save
Yanks win 5-1
This MLB "live" coverage sucks. Its not live, its just some idiots sitting in a studio talking about crap. Almost no video from Yankee Stadium. OMG! they have a phone-in report right now from the stadium - WTF? are you kidding? LOL - this is like a high school production.
ReplyDeleteoh god, not John Fogerty. LOL
ReplyDeleteJessie Barfield? wat?
ReplyDeletejust got back form my test! At least I didnt miss too much
ReplyDeletetoo bad Mattingly couldnt make it
ReplyDeletethats funny them playing the theme of the republic -- they should use the empire music, the vader theme - the yankees are the evil empire, play it up.
ReplyDeleteAny chance we get some good old Ronan Tynan in the 7th inning?!
ReplyDeletei agree Will, I like when their on the road and the play that song for the Yankees when they announce the lineup.
ReplyDeleteI say there's a 99% we do anon
ReplyDelete**99% chance we do**
ReplyDeleteI wish the Yankees would hang the giant WS champion banners across the facade and leave them up all season - like in that classic color photo from the 60s.
ReplyDeleteLove the Imperial song when they're in Chicago. Also I read the same stuff a year ago about Swish being great for the clubhouse for the ChiSox and then he lays an egg. So I was doubtful, at best, he'd have any real positive impact. BUT he's totally turned me around, 99% due to his raking the ball, and 1% chugging the Red Bull in the dugout. My Jaret Wright jersey has become a Swish... Thank God.
ReplyDeleteSo refreshing hearing Jim Kaat....the YES network can definitely use him...what a shame not bringing him back...
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell?!!! MLB just cut out of their free first inning in the middle of the inning.
ReplyDeleteyeah....bunch of liars
ReplyDeleteThis is weird... it looks like the old stadium, yet it doesn't. This is gonna take some getting used to.
ReplyDeleteI think visually the biggest change is that the field doesnt look as expansive. while its true the dimensions are the same - whats very changed is the stuff behind the left field wall has been pulled in closer and ad/video wall is gigantic. The Dave Winfield dimensions are a lot smaller when you not have all that bullpen monument park stuff visually keeping the space open. So we now see how tiny and normal the Winfield dimensions are. Then that backdrop makes the field look tiny. In the old old stadium you looked out past the bleachers beyond the stadium - that made the whole space open up and feel expansive. This visually feels more like a football stadium.
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know if they actually sold all the really expensive tickets for today?
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't Rickey Henderson run full speed out of the dugout to the field when they called his name in introductions?!
ReplyDeletelooks like playing Pena snapped Ransom awake. LOL
ReplyDeleteJORGE
ReplyDeletePosada hits one into Monument Park!
ReplyDeleteNICE ! too many runners left on base in earlier innings so annoying
ReplyDeleteGreat outing by CC
ReplyDeleteHere we go again, Girardi has no clue how to manage a BP. Ramirez and Coke. This is the best the Yankees can come up with.
ReplyDeletewonder if it is as loud as the old stadium, doesn't sound like it on tv, but i think that's just the audio?
ReplyDeleteGreat walk by Veras. An absolute loser. Ditto for Girardi. There is simply no excuse for this garbage and this piss poor managing.
ReplyDeleteI honestly think the "Give Girardi a Chance" crowd are more destructive than the "Oh Goodness We're 5-5, I'm Gonna Jump" crowd.
ReplyDeleteWalk, double, double. Leave him in Girardi. You're so brilliant.
ReplyDeleteOh great another Girardi and Cashman loser = Marte.
ReplyDeleteWe shouldn't be 5-5. We are 5-5 because of Girardi and Cashman and their penchant for LOSERS!
ReplyDeleteThis BP blows. The only team they have done good against was KC. ROFLMAO
ReplyDeleteFirst pitch by Marte = walk
ReplyDeletethis bullpen fucking sucks
ReplyDeleteYou're so brilliant Giardi and Cashman its amazing.
ReplyDeleteHow many times do they have to see Marte suck?
Damn Nady being hurt. How are we going to get Swisher to pitch now?
ReplyDeleteThis BP sucks and so doesn't Girardi and Cashman. Two of the biggest bozos in the game.
ReplyDeletebullpen is a disaster and looks on track to definitely cost the yankees the division championship. cashman is going to have to get a middle reliever that suck cawk if he doesnt want to waste all his other investments.
ReplyDeletecorrex: that DOESNT suck cawk
ReplyDeleteCashman and Girardi are DISASTERS. They absolutely both suck and have no clue. The dumb Yankees will extend them.
ReplyDeleteand Joba will 5, maybe 6 tmro and these douchebags will blow ass again
ReplyDeleteNo first pitch strikes by Marte. NONE! YOu are a fucking loser Girardi and Cashman. Your BP sucks and you couldn't have pickded any worse of arms.
ReplyDeletewhy didnt he leave edwar in before? fucking stupid marte sucks dick
ReplyDeleteA walk by Marte LOL. YOu idiots taht support these losers crack me up. You're dumb and blind.
ReplyDeletethe bullpen appears to be much worse than forecasted this spring, it those forecasts where not generous by any means.
ReplyDeleteTHROW THE FUCKING BALL OVER THE PLATE. Walking in runs, what a disgrace.
The fans should boo these losers until they kill themselves.
12th man from the stands? Anyone? Please come pitch for us, you can't be worse than the current crop of speds.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least the bases aren't loaded anymore.
ReplyDeletethis is worse than an abortion
ReplyDeletebullpens are notorious at being good one year and bad the next.. las year they were pretty good.. this year you can see its gonna be terrible
ReplyDeleteBOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Sterling (speaking about bullpen): "I think it might be a bit of a growing concern for them."
ReplyDeletewhat a genius.
I guess Damaso Marte is Spanish for "Can Be Hit Off Like a Tee"
ReplyDeletekeep laying the fuckin ball right over the plate that seems to be working
ReplyDeleteTime to bring in Swisher from the pen!
ReplyDeletebring in the guy that threw the ball on the field from the stands
ReplyDelete9 fucking runs are u kidding me! what an embarrassment.. seeing how the Mets got Putz for fucking Heilman it makes u wonder where the fuck was cashman on that? if they want Joba to be a starter, and make sure the bullpen will be good without him.. and clearly its not
ReplyDeleteThe crowd is chanting we want Swisher... priceless.
ReplyDeletehaha fucking marte is a JOKE since when does someone hit a ball into the left field bleachers?
ReplyDeleteWhy do you people keep supporting Cashman? He has NEVER done anything and he is an idiot. He signs idiots, he trades for idiots and gives away everybody for nobody. Not only does this team suck at battign with RISP, they also suck at choosign quality players all around and a BP.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to open the new Stadium. WOW.
ReplyDeleteThanks to BRIAN CASHMAN and JOE GIRARDI. Only a FUCKING moron brings in Veras (who can't throw strikes) and Marte (who can't throw strikes). Furthemore, only a FUCKING MORON signs Marte to an extension. Lastly, only a FUCKING MORON extends Brian Cashman.
ReplyDeleteJoba's gotta win tomorrow or we could be looking at losing the first 3 games at the Stadium with Wang going on Saturday.
ReplyDeletesince 2001 we've had more so many more embarrasing moments than great moments
ReplyDeleteWow if Veras is still on the roster tomorrow im am fucking DONE!
ReplyDeleteVERAS VERAS VERAS..... Wow biggest piece of shit ever... OMG I just cant believe he was brought into the fucking game...
ReplyDeleteAnon, why don't you use the word "fucking" one more time. Ya know, just in case we didn't see it enough already.
ReplyDelete"Wow if Veras is still on the roster tomorrow im am fucking DONE!"
ReplyDeleteHe'll obviously still be on the roster. Let's get real.
Why dont you say "its only 9 games" and click your heels one more time and say Brian Cashman is awesome. Or better yet, maybe its George Bush's fault.
ReplyDeleteEvery time veras comes out this year the game gets out of hand remember the last game in KC? YEAH what a guy.. Fuck this feeling sucks so much. If we lost 4-3 or something shit happends. But there is no excuse to get blown out. Just none at all. What a day to remember in history. Getting FUCKING BLOWN OUT by a struggling teams. Great Game VERAS!
ReplyDeleteWhy didnt they bring out Robertson before he just dominated... Wow
ReplyDeletedoes anyone wanna move back across the street?
ReplyDeleteactually, joba needs to go back to the pen, and hughes should be that 5th starter
Really, some people need to stay calm here.
ReplyDeleteI mean, this is one freaking game! I realize it's OD and stuff but is it really worth throwing the F word to anybody in the Yankee organization?
The bullpen was garbage today, it will be good in other games.
It's sad seeing NY Post front pages-type comments here.
And of course as soon as Veras strikes out the side against Boston everybody will be nursing his balls!

NO I will not be nursing his balls because he is the worst reliever in out pen and Marte is close. But at least marte has a contract and I can understand having him on the team and bringing him in. But Veras has no business being on the roster. All he has ever done was pitched half descently when everyone else was garbage. But now we have so many good arms there is no need to be draging the garbage along with the team.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree that Joba should be back in the pen because he's going to be a very valuable starter in the future. In fact, he'll probably get a much needed win tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThe problem here isn't the setup role, it's the guys that come in when the starters can't make it past the 6th. Joba woudln't have helped today, and if we had the lead going into the 8th, Bruney would have most likely gotten the job done since he's been lights out.
No later than June you're going to see a threesome of Melancon-Bruney-Mo, and hopefully we can find someone capable enough to throw the 5th or 6th if needed.
and Joba most likely will only go 6 tomorrow, maybe less.. so the same cast of screwups are gonna come in.. hopefully we score alot of runs early.. but we're vs a shitty pitcher so he'll probably go 8 shutout innings
ReplyDeletehow about Damon back @ DH, put melky in left, sit matsui, and learn how to use your bullpen, oh and someone give CC something to calm him dowm, if he can't compose himself for big games, "WE" are in trouble, cause thats what we're paying him for, nothing BUT BIG GAMES.....
ReplyDeleteSomehow we need to find a way to blame Alex Rodriguez for today.
ReplyDelete>> Really, some people need to stay calm here.

So, so well said. That's why I haven't even commented on here yet today. People need to chill out and stop being so fickle.
And I find it amusing how Cashman, the Steinbrenners, etc. were all getting praised a couple weeks ago about how awesome this team was.
ReplyDeleteNow, five loses in, some want to throw them all under the bus.
Get a grip and stop being so damn ignorant.
15 guys left on base! 1-11 w/ RISP.. we NEED to get hits with guys on base. If were up 3-1 in the top of the 7th, the game could have been totally different.
ReplyDeleteCody Ransom is hitting .100, he's 3/30.. please get back soon Arod.. Cody is an automatic out and he's a below avg fielder.. all we asked him to do was hit around .240-.250ish anything else would be a bonus, and to play a decent 3rd base. He has done neither so either play Pena or bring up Eric Duncan.
they are and will continue to be contenders, but Veras and Marte, and Coke acouple times have been god awful. Our middle relief will make 4-2 games were losing, 8-2.. they will cost us games, but not the season.. we still have 152 games.
would u people calm down... it's not even a month into the season and you are going crazy... bullpens have games like this they are not going to shut down teams night after night... not to mention we probably have the youngest pen in the majors... if this becomes habitual, like it does for los mets every september, than we have a problem... but it's one game for crying out loud it's like when people were saying cc is garbage just because of his bad start in baltimore
ReplyDeleteIts only 10 games. Cashman is the greatest. Girardi is a good manager.
ReplyDeleteNo one is saying Cashman and Girardi are awesome, Anon. But if the Yanks were 7-3 right now, you'd be singing a different tune. Just chill out. You make yourself look like a fool when you flip out after one rough inning and want Veras off the team. I mean, come on... Get a grip, man.
ReplyDeletePeople ripping Girardi are fools. Veras has to pitch strike you cant walk the leadoff hitter with 4 pitches and Marte sucks. There is nothing Girardi can do.
ReplyDeletePeople screaming about he should of kept Phil Coke in the game were the same ones screaming that he left Coke in the game too long in KC.
Also the new stadium is amazing.
I never said anythign of the sort. You dont' look a fool for continually sticking up for terrible players, GM's and managers. You are a fool. Veras is not a good pitcher. He can't throw strikes and is out of control. Marte has NEVER been good here. This is called scientific observable phenomena.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry it is only 10 games and this was just 1 game. Repeat this 10 times before you watch the tv news media preach its propaganda and religion. Its mind over matter.
And, if the Yanks were 7-3 I would NOT be singing a different tune. These are more straw arguments that you have to create to make yourself feel better.
ReplyDeleteThis team is NOT good, it can NOT hit with RISP, has no BP and a pathetic GM and Manager. These problems have been going on for YEARS. How did this great Yankee offense built by Cashman do again today with RISP? They were AWFUL as usual.
I'm telling you the Yankees are being very stubborn and stupid regarding Joba. Wouldn't you rather have him come in the 7th innning in a 1-1 game today? If this is a sign of what is to come this is going to be a long summer.
ReplyDeleteThey'll be fine I like how its coming together
ReplyDeletei really like this team
so happy view from the train was preserved
was my biggest concern about the new stadium
looks good as starter
on the other hand
Joba setting up Mo is real tough to deal with
The Yankees already have a few good long relievers, there's no need to move Joba. The problem is Joe just felt that they weren't worth putting on the 40 man.
ReplyDeleteDisappointing performance today to say the least, but they'll bounce back. What I was actually more appalled by was that a sellout crowd is 48,271. So much for the 52,235 figure (which was already too small) being thrown around - all the rest is standing room which they did not sell for Opening Day.
ReplyDeleteTo put it in perspective, Baltimore and Arizona drew more for their openers. There's something wrong with that for a franchise that strives to be larger than life.
Im not upset because it was 1 game im upset because it was "THE GAME" its not just another game. It was opening day for the new stadium. HISTORY. Forever it will be remembered that the Yankees opened up the new Yankee Stadium by getting rapped thats what upsets me. Not it being just another game. Or the tenth game or whatever. It is the History aspect of it all. F VERAS!
ReplyDeleteThe reason the attendance was about 4000 short of capacity was because the yankees didn't allow standing room, so it wasn't full
ReplyDeleteThe point is, it looks like the seating capacity is only 48,000. That is 8,000 less seats than the old stadium. I don't buy inflating the capacity figure with over 4,000 standing room spaces. Before today, myself (and others in the blogs and media) were under the impression there were over 50,000 seats and maybe a couple thousand for standing room. Combined with the higher prices, less seats does not bode well for the average fan.
ReplyDeleteI love the new stadium, but the Yankees really screwed this one up by lowering capacity so much. It's almost as embarrassing as today's loss.
Whatever, Anon. You're doing the classic ignorant early panicking. You want to write this team off as bad with a 5-5 record, go right ahead.
ReplyDeleteJust know that you're being a total moron.
