News & Notes

UPDATE 8:37 p.m.: According to Bryan Hoch, the Yankees have told Chien-Ming Wang not to come to Boston, and to stay in Tampa. Here's a quote from Cashman:

"You see what the results are," Cashman said. "The velocity is down, the command is off. Those are indicators that something is not right. Whether it's mechanical or health-related, that's what we're going to find out. We're plugging all aspects in.

"It has clearly affected this guy, because we know what he is. He's a perennial 19-game winner. Right now, that's not what you see."

...

"With us, he's very open and honest," Cashman said. "He's as anxious as all of us to get this back on line. We know how great of a pitcher he is. He's one of the best in the world when he's right. Clearly his recovery from this Lisfranc fracture is taking some twists and turns. We have time to get him going and I believe we will get him going."

I dunno about you, but I think Hughes will be starting on Tuesday. I guess you could keep him in Tampa for three days and then send him north for the game, but with his velocity down I think the Yankees will wait. I can't see them starting him in a major league game until he's throwing the ball like he's supposed to.

- Thanks to
Will, one of the commenters on this blog, we have this video:

- Injury updates:
These two bits of news come from the great Peter Abraham (The guy is on top of everything Yankee related and I can't give him enough credit for what he does for us fans.)

First an update on Chien-Ming Wang: He's not at Fenway and is not expected to be there. He's being examined by Dr. Mark Lindsay, who is the rehab specialist that is working with A-Rod.

Speaking of A-Rod, Joe Girardi said he has his best day so far while rehabbing and is very close to playing in some minor-league games.

- Joba Chamberlain
is 2-0, with a 3.12 ERA in six games, two starts. Last year he was 1-0, with a 3.46 ERA in three games, two starts.

- Jon Lester is 2-0, with a 3.42 ERA in four starts. Last year he was 2-0, with a 1.19 ERA in three starts.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

  2. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! First I missed Opening Day, then the first game at the new Yankee Stadium, and since I'm going bowling with my pals tonight, I'm going to miss at least 6 innings of tonight's game. It's not that I don't want to go bowling, in fact I'm really excited, but I was really looking foward to the game.

Good thing it's only the first game againt Boston. They play like 10 more times so its no big deal.

    GO YANKEES!

  5. B-boy they actually play like 17 or 18 more times after tonight :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Oh! Thanks dan, now this is really not a big deal at all.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Greg - just to be clear, I only found it on youtube.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The "Gay Man" ones are the best.

  10. I am pumped for the Burnett - Beckett game.

    ReplyDelete
  11. There was absolutely no balk there. NONE WHATSOEVER.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Joba is pitching scared. Not one pitch on the inner half, what a disgrace. KNOCK SOMEONE DOWN!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Damn it.

The YES Networks doesn't work again on MLB.TV!

I have to listen to John Sterling with the YES video feed.

And those red Sox jerseys are just painful to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yea, those jerseys suck, but what part of Red Sox nation doesn't suck?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Where is everyone? This is Yankees-Red Sox.

    ReplyDelete
  16. aqui!

    nice Joba, 2 big DP's..

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like the two DP's, but he's pitching scared. He won't throw a fastball on the inner half and it's pissing me off.

    ReplyDelete
  18. he threw one inside Papi and Drew.. i think hes waiting till he has 100 pitches and 6 innings under his belt then he's gonna drill someone

    ReplyDelete
  19. The pitch to Ortiz was a breaking ball and the pitch to Drew was a mistake. At least it looked like one.

I dunno, I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like he's pitching scared.

Anyway, I don't want him to hit someone, I want him to knock someone over.

    ReplyDelete
  20. What the fuck? Posada has looked beyond awful two times in a row. Ass hole!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow, as much as I hate to say it, that was a great play by Lowell.

    Does A-Rod even come close?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lowell stole one from Swish and the Yanks. But they're working over Lester--61 pitches through three.

Jorge got fooled by that fastball, I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  23. na Arod probably wouldnt catch that

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nick ****ing Green? Are you serious?

    ReplyDelete
  25. cant be wasting pitches on Nick Green.. and then give up a hit to him

    ReplyDelete
  26. He finally throws one up and in and then comes back with a hanger. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Do you walk Youkilis?

    I do.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm not sure. Joba may be in his head. Go after him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Man this should be a 2-0 game but it's funny how baseball works.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Great job getting out of that jam for Joba.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That was big, no runs allowed. We gotta get some offense goin but it's kind of hard when you have the worst Molina and Cody Automatic Out Ransom. God I wish A Rod was back already.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You're right Emmanuel, that was huge.

Lester looks good tonight, but they have been able to get five baserunners in three innings, so he's not untouchable.

    ReplyDelete
  33. C'mon Ransom prove to me you aren't worthless.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Looks like Cody heard me all the way over here in Cali LOL

    ReplyDelete
  35. And the Yankees lead 2-1. Glad there wasn't a runner on first for that one.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Man good thing we have the lead now but 2 our RISP avg has to improve. Can't win games never getting a clutch 2 out hit.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nick Johnson just hit a HR off Santana... good for him. I loved him when he was here

    ReplyDelete
  38. GOOD FUCKING JOB!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Posada is now 0-for-6 with four strike outs against Lester.

Maybe he should try hitting lefty?

    ReplyDelete
  40. yeah.. but the Nats have 1st and 2nd no out... Jorge doesnt look good vs Lester, ugly at bats

    ReplyDelete
  41. Joba is consistently getting himself into bad situations. Eventually it's going to bite him in the ass.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jeter's fielding costs us again.

    ReplyDelete
  43. GOOD FUCKING JOB ONCE AGAIN!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. wow man hes really getting bailed out with all of the doubleplays.. he could have easily given up 5+ runs.

    ReplyDelete
  45. True, but I'll take it.

Melky just missed that. In the new stadium that's a homer.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Damn, close but no cigar.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This has to be the last inning for Joba. He's been one pitch away from a disaster all game.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Melky pulled a Manny right there.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Take him out of this fucking game!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Considering how little he had tonight the outcome wasn't that bad. Hopefully the pen can do the job.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Talk about throwing the rookie into the fire.

    C'MON PHIL!

    ReplyDelete
  52. That's one.... Here's the tougher out, though.

    ReplyDelete
  53. And that's two... Great job by Coke.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I can't believe he just got out of that.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Son of a bitch, just missed the go ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nice call on the bunt for Girardi.

    ReplyDelete
  57. YEAH TEIXEIRA !!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. He's not even in the bullpen. He must be hurt Greg.

    ReplyDelete
  59. stop putting Nick Green on base!!! why do we also give the 9th batter free passes?

    ReplyDelete
  60. where is everyone? 60 degrees in nyc - guess - we're out boozing watching the game.

I've caught a few innings. Kinda sad one run off the bases loaded - but great work by joba - this is very winnable. Kinda amazing. Prepare for epic whining in redsox nation.

    ReplyDelete
  61. i think Molina screwed up there... I think he said " my bad" to Joe. He probably was supposed to signal for him to throw to 1st

    ReplyDelete
  62. I saw that too, Dan.

I'm worried about Bruney. What the hell is wrong with him?

    ReplyDelete
  63. nice pitch there to Pedroia..

Mets won 4-3. Krod gave up a 2 run homer in the 9th tho.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oddly enough I'm at a bar on orchard st and the back garden looks like a mini fenway? Wtf? Who designed this place?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think next time there is a friday night yank redsox game we do a raid on some redsox blog during the day. (Assuming yanks lead the sox natch). Lolz I promise.

Ok btm 9 - ready? - game... blouses

    ReplyDelete
  66. Are u shitting me

Faggots on LES chanting letsa go redsox - where the fuck am I - requesting backup - some knife these losers

    ReplyDelete
  67. fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. UN-FUCKING-BELIEABLE

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mo blows. Choke artist since 2001. And, that's what you get for NOT getting in the runs when you should have. LOSERS!

    ReplyDelete
  70. This is bullshit this is not awesome, this is suck. Worst is redsoxfag is wearing one of those members only jackets. Jesus h what the hell is happening to nyc?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mo doesn't blow. It's one bad outing. Hopefully he can get out of it and maybe the offense will pick him up.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This is all because murders r down in nyc. We need jeffrie dalmer back. Screw this bloomberg nice n clean crap. We need billy martin.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh bullshit. Its always one bad outing with Mo at the WORST time. He's a choke artist since 2001. That's a FACT! How the hell can you blow that lead there?! You can't. Just GTFO. Take Jeter, Posada, Arod and all the other has-beens.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Mo isn't the same.. It is really unfortunate

    ReplyDelete
  75. Uh oh - anony is back. Anony should be hired as that sniper I've suggest the yankees get.

Shoot phone bat is getting low

    ReplyDelete
  76. What a great play by Pedroia. Fucking shit.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Let's see if Tex can do it again.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Tezx needs be reggie right naooooooooo!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I fucking hate Pedroia, little midget.....

    ReplyDelete
  80. That's the game there. Tex swings at ball four above his head. The Sox win it in the tenth.

    ReplyDelete
  81. fucking Tex, trying to do much.

    ReplyDelete
  82. nice swing tex you fuck, u'd better start producing soon,

    ReplyDelete
  83. And, Yawn right back to you with Mo loving garbage. He's a choke artist. The King of it too.

Lets see....Red Sox get big hits.....Yankees don't. Red Sox get clutch performances.....Yankees don't. Red Sox know how to win.....Yankees dont have a clue....

Great job Mo. You friggin loser. A HR to Jason Bay. It must be someone else's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Tex looked scared. Well welcome to ny-redsox shit will make u piss your pants - buck up chief an learn to take ball 4 when the pich is thrown at the upper deck. Newbe!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Of course, you dont want to watch because you know what's coming. All thanks to Mariano Rivera the CHOKE ARTIST!

    ReplyDelete
  86. This one time I agree with you. This game is as good as over.

    ReplyDelete
  87. If my phone goes dead before this is over I will kill ever person in massachussetts including their cats. Lolz

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wow, that's some big pitching from Marte. Holy ****.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yanks had better start to draft & develope players better. Thank you Marte, strike out that little faggot Pedroia, punk, I don't know who i hate more, Youk, Pedroia, or Papelbum...

    ReplyDelete
  90. You know what Mo, you're still a fucking loser. He has NO EXCUSES. NONE. ZERO. NADA. ZILCH! This team is such bullshit. And, it has been for years. And, we have the same line of old, washed-up players on it. Nah, they couldn't be the problem....

    ReplyDelete
  91. Seriously, what team do you root for?

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm a deadman c u in the after life - hope this this ends in 11.

Redasox nation on LES has been knifed. I've done my part.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow, so Bruney is heading to NY to have his elbow checked and Ransom pulled a quad.

    ReplyDelete
  94. so many missed opportunities... this one will hurt alot if we lose

    ReplyDelete
  95. Oh geeez, are you serious about Bruney?

    ReplyDelete
  96. yeah no lie man. Must've fucked up something on Tues

    ReplyDelete
  97. Do you have a link? Where'd you hear that?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Guys, I've been out all night & I'm in Wildwood where I've been trying to listen to a patchy radio. I know (unfortunately) what's happened in the game, but what is up with Bruney? Has anyone said on the TV?

    ReplyDelete
  99. I HATE Melky. He has got to be the worst player ever. He swings at garbage with a pitcher that can't throw strikes.

And, why do you continually root for a choke artist? Its bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Nobody seems to know. Emmanuel is saying he's heading to NY to get his elbow checked out, but I haven't been able to find a link or anything.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah sorry there is no link, I'm watching the game on MLB TV and the audio isn't working from YES so I'm listening to John and Susan on the radio broadcast and Susan reported it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Damn it Cano, you have just as much right to the base path as that little midget, run him over, stir it up...reminds me of when Al Belle ran over the brewers 2nd baseman yrs ago, you have just as much right to the base path..

    ReplyDelete
  103. So when they said he was being rested Wed, it meant they knew something was wrong & didn't want to take a chance on pitching him.

Jeez, every time he gets going good, something happens to him. That's really bad news.

The Yankees are going to have to make some roster moves Saturday before the game. Maybe we finally see Melancon up? Or maybe they go with veterans like Johnson or Tomko. I wonder who replaces Ransom.... Duncan (Eric), maybe?

Suddenly the Yankees are in a world of hurt, not good.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Girardi pushed the envelope with Marte. One good inning, then goodnight. Blech.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Fucl. what a terrible day for the team.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Great job Mo. You are a winner. And, Marte another Cashman loser. That's all Cashman signs/extends is LOSERS! Just like him.

What's the excuse tonight? Its simple, MO is a fucking choke artist and this team still can't hit or win big games.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Jesus shit - that blows - damn it I hate that city

    ReplyDelete
  108. This team is such BULLSHIT, it is not even funny. There are no excuses for this performance tonight. NONE!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Painful loss. Just painful. How many guys did the Yanks have on base that didn't score?? As bad as it gets for an early season loss. That one counts as two losses, not one.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yankees had too many chances to score runs & didn't bring them around tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Please AJ, you'd better be ready for this shit tomorrow, just great, un-fucking-believeable...Girardi has no clue how to manage. My wife could manage better then him...

    ReplyDelete
  112. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. The Yankees should be making some coaching and managerial moves after tonight. Girardi is pedestrian at best. I don't know what Dave Eisland does to earn a paycheck because the only pitchers who look like they pitch with any consistency are the ones who basically self coach like AJ and Pettite.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Really bad. I know it's just one loss, but that's really bad.

Did I say that that was really bad?

    ReplyDelete
  115. And, Mo has no clue how to win big games. And, this old man team full of has-beens stocked by Cashman has no clue on how to win games period. But, that's what you get when sign a 800 year old closer who has one pitch along with a bunch of other one-dimensional 800 year old guys. AGain, you deserve what you get Cashman. YOu fucking loser.

    ReplyDelete
  116. You guys are going overboard. If Girardi puts in Steven Jackson, you would say why is he putting in a rookie. He has 2 pitchers out of his staff, one untested rookie in, and an 11 inning game following a 14 inning game.

    ReplyDelete
  117. "And, Mo has no clue how to win big games. "

    WHAT?

    ReplyDelete
  118. I feel like going outside and kicking my dog right now

    ReplyDelete
  119. Yeah but good long relievers like Melancon and Aceves are rotting in the miners because Joe can't evaluate talent let alone manage. He really is clueless.

    ReplyDelete
  120. this one will hurt for along long time..

if we win 1 out of the next 2, that means we shoulda won the series, if we win both, we shoulda swept, and if we lose both, we shoulda at least won tonight and not get swept.

the 1st game of the series and year vs the sox and we have the worst loss of the year probably.

we should be like 12-4 right now

    ReplyDelete
  121. You guys are being too hard on Girardi. He had the whole game set up-- Joba was so-so but got us into the 6th inning, then it was Coke & Albaladejo. It would have been Bruney in the 8th, but Mo had to come in instead. And Mo isn't Superman anymore, but he's still real good. But sh*t sometimes happens.

Anyway, now with Ransom, Wang & Bruney out-- we are going to see some new faces from Scranton.

AJ has to be on tomorrow. We need him to give us innings.

    ReplyDelete
  122. bases loaded with no outs 2 times and we get 1 run.. unbelievable.. im not putting it all on Mo

we need to score early tmro and need AJ to pitch a complete game.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yea, he has no clue how to win big games? What part of that didn't you understand? Name the last big game he has won? He hasn't. Hes a choke artist like this whole team. Why dont you watch a game, get a reality chekc instead of living in 1999.

Another great job by the choke artist since 2001. MARIANO RIVERA!

    ReplyDelete
  124. now you're thinking, Dan. That's right. The hitters lost this game tonight. Mo & Marte pitched more than they should have because there was no Bruney in the 8th inning and because it was extra innings. If our guys scored just one more run with all their chances, all this never happens.

I want the Yankees to win every game too, but you guys realize this series in April means --nothing--.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Not blaming on Mo? Lets see 4-2 9th inning with 2 outs. And, Mariano Rivera gives up game tieing HR. If it is not his fault then who's? The sun, mooon, stars, sky, ....? What's more fuckign BS than this team is you guys with its not Mo's fault garbage. 100% MARIANO RIVERA'S FAULT

    ReplyDelete
  126. And, if Mo saves the game like he is suppose it doesn't matter what the choke artists hitters did. It is 100% Mariano Rivera's fault. Nothing new in big games. He's been doing it since 2001.

    ReplyDelete
  127. hey Mr Anonymous- those 2 runs are the first runs Mo has given up in 2009 & this is his 8th game. He has 4 saves already and hasn't even walked anyone yet this year. Get real.

    ReplyDelete
  128. this game counts the same as a game in September does.. if we miss the playoffs by 1 game.. heres one game we should have one..

Of course im pissed off at Mo,he did blow the game. but if cano can just get a hit or fly out we score more runs and he doesnt blow the game.. when we didnt score in the 9th, i had a feeling we would regret it and that Mo would blow it..

    ReplyDelete
  129. Anonymous, just stop it because he only had one blown save the entire season last year and who else has lasted this long in that role.

Steve B. Where was the same consideration for Torre? He only made the playoffs every year he managed the team.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Don't worry about it. We'll win some games we should have lost between now & October.

I am more worried about Bruney. If he's out that's a big blow to the relief staff.

Yeah, Mo blew it, but when a guy is unhittable for 7 games and then gives up a HR in his 8th game, you can't be too upset at him.

  131. I thought Torre did a great job overall. He made the playoffs those last couple of seasons when he really shouldn't have.

My problem with Torre was that he relied too much on certain pitchers and tended to blow out their arms. Also that he would pull starters too early in the game, forcing the relief staff to work too hard, so that by October he had nothing coming out of the bullpen. He killed the careers of several pitchers.

  132. I have to agree, this game is not Girardi's fault. The Yankees had multiple opportunities to put this game away and it never happened. Then Mo blew the lead in the ninth. If you want to blame anyone, blame the offense, and blame Mo.
