UPDATE 8:37 p.m.: According to Bryan Hoch, the Yankees have told Chien-Ming Wang not to come to Boston, and to stay in Tampa. Here's a quote from Cashman:
"With us, he's very open and honest," Cashman said. "He's as anxious as all of us to get this back on line. We know how great of a pitcher he is. He's one of the best in the world when he's right. Clearly his recovery from this Lisfranc fracture is taking some twists and turns. We have time to get him going and I believe we will get him going."
I dunno about you, but I think Hughes will be starting on Tuesday. I guess you could keep him in Tampa for three days and then send him north for the game, but with his velocity down I think the Yankees will wait. I can't see them starting him in a major league game until he's throwing the ball like he's supposed to.

now you're thinking, Dan. That's right. The hitters lost this game tonight. Mo & Marte pitched more than they should have because there was no Bruney in the 8th inning and because it was extra innings. If our guys scored just one more run with all their chances, all this never happens.

ReplyDeletehey Mr Anonymous- those 2 runs are the first runs Mo has given up in 2009 & this is his 8th game. He has 4 saves already and hasn't even walked anyone yet this year. Get real.

ReplyDeleteOf course im pissed off at Mo,he did blow the game. but if cano can just get a hit or fly out we score more runs and he doesnt blow the game.. when we didnt score in the 9th, i had a feeling we would regret it and that Mo would blow it..
Anonymous, just stop it because he only had one blown save the entire season last year and who else has lasted this long in that role.

Yeah, Mo blew it, but when a guy is unhittable for 7 games and then gives up a HR in his 8th game, you can't be too upset at him.
I thought Torre did a great job overall. He made the playoffs those last couple of seasons when he really shouldn't have.
ReplyDeleteMy problem with Torre was that he relied too much on certain pitchers and tended to blow out their arms. Also that he would pull starters too early in the game, forcing the relief staff to work too hard, so that by October he had nothing coming out of the bullpen. He killed the careers of several pitchers.
I have to agree, this game is not Girardi's fault. The Yankees had multiple opportunities to put this game away and it never happened. Then Mo blew the lead in the ninth. If you want to blame anyone, blame the offense, and blame Mo.
