News & Notes
- Mark Teixeira was in the original lineup but apparently his wrist isn't right yet so he was scratched. Teixeira told the writers that his wrist is still sore, and he's got it in a brace. According to Peter Abraham, the Yankees are going to "go heavy on treatment today to try and remove the inflammation."
- Jorge Posada sits for the day game following a night game for the second time this year.

- Nick Swisher is hitting .538/.625/1.385, with 2 home runs and 9 RBI. Wonder how he really became a Yankee? Well then check out this from Tyler Kepner. He explains how Ruben Rivera, of all people, helped the Yankees acquire Swisher.
- Joba Chamberlain has faced the Royals three times in his young career, once as a starter, and he's 0-0 with a 2.35 ERA. In his lone start against them came last year when he was first became a starter. He lasted 4.1 innings, and allowed three runs - two earned - on five hits a walk and five strikeouts.
- Gil Meche has made 13 starts against the Yankees and is 3-4 with a 4.38 ERA. Last year he made one start against the Yanks a got a no decision. In seven innings he allowed one run on six hits, walked one, and struck out two.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

Hopefully Teix is better by tomorrow. I know the season just started but we need his bat in there everyday. (although they did great w/o him last night)
ReplyDeleteYea we sure do, but I think he'll be fine and be back during Tampa series.
ReplyDeleteWhen everybody gets healthy this lineup is going to be incredible.
ReplyDeleteJeter
Damon
Teixeira
A-Rod
Matsui
Posada
Cano
Swisher/Nady
Gardner
Girardi needs to give up on Matsui hitting cleanup!! He's lost at the plate!!
ReplyDeleteI agree that he looks lost Bauer, but he can turn it on in the blink of an eye. I'd stick with him for a little while longer. But if he's still looks lost in a week or two then I'd move him down.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying he should be pulled, but don't bat him cleanup! It makes no sense to put the person in the lineup who's looked the worst and bat him cleanup day after day. Ransom has been hitting the ball harder than Matsui (outside of Matsui's one homer).
ReplyDeleteHit Cano or Nady in the cleanup spot. Cano has looked great.
Oh my bad... Yea I'd have no problem if they moved him in the order.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fast dude.
ReplyDeletehahaha he sure is.
ReplyDeleteEvery time Michael Kay says "The New K" you all have to take a sip of beer.
ReplyDeleteHey Mark,
ReplyDeletelol good idea.
How'd you know I was drinking a beer?
Hah, just a lucky guess.
ReplyDeleteim not judging Joba on this start.. the weather is shitty and Cano/Swisher should have had that groundball
ReplyDeleteThat really should have been an error.
ReplyDeleteThe way Meche is pitching I'm praying for a rainout.
Yea I'm not either Dan. I can't believe they screwed up that play. Hopefully the offense will pick him up, but the way Meche is throwing that might be harder said than done.
ReplyDeleteand the lineup is missing some big guys.. just looking at 7-8-9 in our lineup makes me throw up
ReplyDeleteMelky sucks!
ReplyDeletehahah I know, I don't care how bad Damon is against Meche he should be in the lineup today.
ReplyDeleteSo does Ransom! My goodness this is pitiful.
ReplyDeleteYea he does suck... Joba needs a nice easy inning right here.
ReplyDeleteTHE LEGEND IS HERE!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was a big out getting Jacobs. Now can we score some runs please?
Joe should have put Posada at DH, Damon in Left, and Pena at 3B.
ReplyDeletelol, hey Larry! Yes, 3 or 4 runs would be nice. .... there's a base hit by Molina.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Dan.
ReplyDeleteFucking doubleplays are killing us today.
ReplyDeleteOMG HE WAS SAFE!
mother fucker.... were just not meant to win this game. i hate these type of games
ReplyDeleteHe was safe. But what I want to know is why is Gardner swinging at the first pitch. I'd rather see him try to bunt for a hit.
ReplyDelete5 pitch inning! make him work at least
ReplyDeleteI like Gardner, but he completely screwed up that inning.
ReplyDeleteFinally, a 1-2-3 inning. RUNS... WE NEED RUNS!!!
ReplyDeleteAlright, 2 on, nobody out, let's do something with this.
ReplyDeletenice!!!
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeletetied up! 5 pitches this inning, 5 swings
ReplyDeleteTie game!!! Love Cano's approach, all he was looking to do was find a ball to pull. Flaherty is exactly right.
ReplyDeleteI guess they've decided that's the only way to attack Meche. Who knows? At least it's working this time around.
ReplyDeletesomeone kill Melky please
ReplyDeleteTIME TO TAKE THE LEAD BOYS!
ReplyDelete....
Stupid Cabrera with another DP. Ehhhhh at least they took the lead.
hahahahaha at least the he didn't strike out and leave that runner on third.
ReplyDeleteCabrera sucks. He doesn't have any business playing.
ReplyDeleteWHOA RANSOM DIDN'T MAKE AN OUT!
ReplyDeleteit would be great if we could steal this game... last year we didnt take that final game of a series and rip the other teams heart out..
ReplyDeletebut this game has the feeling of a blown save in the 8th or 9th.. nothing against Mo, he's the best, but I have a weird feeling
I hate Beckett
ReplyDeleteSo do I (about hating Beckett).
ReplyDeleteIt's never stealing a game when you beat the Royals. The bullpen just needs to do what it's been doing.
Anon, at this point I can't disagree with you. Hopefully he can figure out how to hit again and contribute.
ReplyDeletewell either way.. we didn't finish off sweeps enough last year against bad teams
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right. I'm just hoping this is a different year. It's going to need to be if we can get #27.
ReplyDeleteWhat i meant by stealing this game was Meche was so good, and looked like we were half way to Tampa by the 5th inning... which is unacceptable.. we need to get wins whenever we can being in the AL East
ReplyDeleteget some insurance boys
ReplyDeleteOh I see what you mean Dan. My bad.
ReplyDeletecome on Coke! just need to get 1 out
ReplyDeleteFUCK!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI knew it.. i knew we were gonna blow it
ReplyDeleteJose Veras you fucking suck. You have no business walking anyone. And, thanks alot Melky for ruining another big inning with your GIDP.
ReplyDeleteCoke fucking sucks.. way to blow the game guys..
ReplyDeleteAll because of a fucking walk by fuccking Veras. What a complete tool. Ditto for Girardi for bringing in Veras.
ReplyDeletebring up Hughes and put Joba in the pen
ReplyDelete100% loss on managing.
ReplyDeleteIts frustrating. Where was Mo?
ReplyDeletejust like last year... FINISH OFF THE GODDAMN SWEEP!
ReplyDeleteI would rather have Joe left in 1 guy in the 8th rather than 3.. Marte got 2 outs, see if he can get the 3rd. And what has Coke proven that he can be the 8th inning pitcher? He pitched like 15 innings last year in like the 6th inning... at 405 I said I had a bad feeling about this game, that we would probably blow it in the 8th or 9th, and I was right.. terrible job guys, unfuckingbelievable
You fuckign loser Veras and Girardi. How the hell can you walk anyone in the 8th with 2 outs. That is complete BS!! Furthermore, Marte sucks too Girardi.
ReplyDeleteCoke pisses me off but it was 100% due to Veras walking that guy with 2outs in the 8th. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THAT BULLSHIT EVER!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete4-2 feels so much better than 3-3... now were going to Tampa on a terrible note, we'll probably lose 2 out of 3 and go home under .500
ReplyDeleteur right ANON.. Veras, throw fucking strikes asshole!
ReplyDeleteLet's not get too down. Its one game. I'm just annoyed at Girardi for not going to Mo.
ReplyDeleteif we get to the playoffs I want Joba in the pen( for the playoffs)
ReplyDeletehopefully Tex can play tmro
ReplyDeleteVeras is not dependable at all. He's too much of a lose cannon. It is absolute BS to walk anyone in that situation. It was BS to bring Marte. I have no clue what this organization sees in Marte. He completely sucks. He belongs playing for a low pressure team. Girardi prolly didn't bring in Mo because of the rain. It doesn't matter. It is piss poor coaching either way. Veras gave up runs yesterday WTF is Girardi thinking. And, Coke needs to go back to AAA. Lastly, Girardi is a fucckign moron for playing Cabrera. Cabrera sucks and he is a rally killer. That game could have been over if Cabrera does anything.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke of a game. Two unearned runs, then we blow a lead after getting the first two outs in the 8th.
ReplyDeleteAnd it starts with a freakin' walk!! Throw damn strikes!! I swear, nothing pisses me off more than walks.
I'd get annoyed at Girardi for not going to Mariano, but I understand they are babying his shoulder right now, so I'll let it go...
Just an unacceptable loss. And Veras sucks.
Anon, Marte did his job just fine... Not sure why you're giving him a hard time.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that starting Cabrera today was stupid. The offense was already lacking because Tex and Posada were out of the lineup. There's no reason to take Damon out of the lineup on the same day. Give him the day off tomorrow when Posada is back.
it seems like we always have terrible losses on Sundays..
ReplyDeleteBecuase Marte just plain sucks and is not dependable. He did fine today but DeJesus battled him. His 2-2 pitch was complete bullshit. And, if you trust Marte in a big game situation then I am not sure what you are thinking. He has proven that he is not good in pressure situations at all.
ReplyDeleteThis is complete BS that they can't beat the Royals who can't score runs. And it is all coaching and poor execution. Fuckign pathetic. I am so sick of Cabrera. He isn't a perfect 4th OFer as everyone says. He is perfect door greeter at Walmart. We have been dealing with his rallly kiling for 2 years now.
Girardi better learn to manage better or else. His decisions are extremely poor IMO.
I don't always agree with Girardi, either. But I totally disagree with you on Marte. And until he shows that he cannot be the guy like he was today, I don't think there's any reason to complain about him.
ReplyDeleteIf there's someone to be pissed at today, it's Veras for the walk that started it all. That's what pisses me off.
Oh I agree. All my anger is at Veras.
ReplyDeleteMarte was fine today. But, Marte has proven over and over that he is definitely not the guy. I would never trust him against good teams. I absolutely hate the Marte/Nady trade.
Tough loss we could of stole the game. I mean we hit Melky, Ransom and Molina in the bottom of our lineup.
ReplyDeleteBruny should always be the eighth inning guy. Marte should just be a specialist.
ugly loss.... not much more to say. at least they took the series.
ReplyDeletepreseason analysis of the yankees almost universally identified the bullpen as the team's weakness, and in particular its weakness in comparison to boston. this is the issue to watch.
ReplyDeleteagain the lineup delivered, no Arod, no Tex, no Posada and they still get 4 runs including 3 late to retake the lead. if you get a solid start from your number 4 pitcher and the lineup gives you 4 runs... a championship team wins these kinds of games. not saying Yankees won't be champions, just saying its these kinds of games the Yankees MUST win. this team will win 90 games - but this is where you get the other 10-15 you need to win the division.
and I agree, walks with 2 out none on late are unacceptable. throw strikes, make them hit it.
ReplyDelete
