Olbermann's Tribute To His Yankee Fan Mother

Keith Olbermann's mother passed away last weekend, and this is his tribute to her which aired on his show this week. Marie Olbermann, who was a huge Yankees fan, had become pretty famous herself over the years for being the fan that Chuck Knoblauch nailed in the head will an errant throw during the 2000 season. My condolences go out to the Olbermann family.

(Hat-tips to Peter Abraham, Neil Best, and Fang's Bites.)

  1. Aw, Geez.... Look at me now sitting here on a Saturday in my office.... Aw Geez.....

Great post. She's like my mom in so many ways, although my mom would have been a bit more humorous in the interview. I look forward to seeing mom and dad this coming weekend when I come up to NYC for some of the opening homestand. God willing.

I don't even like K.O., but I send him my deepest condolences. After all, he's a human being. So am I.

    Mike

PS Thanks for this post, Greg.

honestly, this is not baseball related and shoudl not be up here. Secondly, she is 80 and her son is just a little bit of a jerk so why are you wasting space on your blog for this. This woman's son touts himself as a journalist but is nothing more than the definition of what is wrong with the media today. Give us all a break with this garbage, post something that has to do with the team you are purporting to cover. I didnt know I've been reading a blog about old yankee fans dying.

  4. No problem Mike, glad you guys could see past politics on this one.

  5. Against Pointless Posts,

It is Yankee related, maybe that's why Peter Abraham also posted it on his Yankees blog. There were also four other posts today that you could have read besides this one, all baseball related.

"This woman's son touts himself as a journalist but is nothing more than the definition of what is wrong with the media today."

This just shows that you can't see past your own politics for one minute. Which is fine, that's your prerogative, but if it was Sean Hannity's or Bill O'Reily's mom I'm sure you'd have a different reaction.

  6. Against Anonymous Posts, How about you relax a little?

This isn't about politics you moron. It's a story about a guy and his mother - a huge Yankees fan - who he just lost. He chose to honer her on his tv show, and Greg chose to post that tribute. So have many other Yankees/Baseball/sports bloggers. I don't see why you need to act like a jerk about it.

  7. Thanks Larry, I just think the guy hates Olbermann and can't see past that.

  8. No problem Greg. There's no reason why you should have been attacked for this post. Had you made it a political thing that's another story, but you didn't.

First of all Im a woman not a guy jerk. I do hate Olberman, Hannity, O'Reilly and all biased "journalists." Your assumption that I am being political also shows that you yourself aren't looking past politics in your assumptions about my views of your pointless post.

I understand the guy's mom died. But it has nothing to do witht he yankees. To that end, I would say that anyone who posts something like this on thier blog is wasting thier time (unless its a blog about 80 year old's who die and who happen to have a famous son on tv). Excuse me for pointing this out to you, but people die every day, especially yankee fans. The Nick Adenhart posts at least had to do with a baseball player. The only reason this old lady's face is on your blog is because you happened to see the clip somehow and she got was made famous by her tv son after she got conked by knobby. Those reasons still have nothing to do with baseball, the yankees, or anything you purport to make your blog about. It is simply rediculousness. There is still no reason for you to post this on your site.

Of course it is your prerogative to post whatever you want. However, you should at least show us why your readers, as YANKEE FANS shoudl be reading it. Pathetic post Gregory.

And Larry, it was never abotu politics. If you you noticed, you were the one that brought up politics - not me.

  10. I'm a jerk because I assumed you were a guy? Ummmm, OK?

Seriously, though, why did this one post upset you so much that you need to name call and insult me? Seriously, for you to get so worked up about this post is, well, surprising.

And I guess there was also no reason for Neil Best to post it, or Peter Abraham, or any other baseball blog that decided to post it.

There were other readers on this blog who liked the post. So I guess it wasn't completely pointless, huh?

I apologize for calling you a jerk. It was insensitive for me to think that you woudl know my gender through the computer screen, Im sorry.

"Seriously, though, why did this one post upset you so much that you need to name call and insult me? Seriously, for you to get so worked up about this post is, well, surprising."

So we are being serious now? If you are being serious, the first thing you shoudl seriously do is stop putting posts like this on your site. Also, the fact that it suprises you means nothing at all. Actually, it suprises me that it suprises you that I think your post and all of the other posts around yankee land about this lady are pointless. To each his own....especially if you are running a blog abotu the YANKEES and want to post stuff like this i guess.

"And I guess there was also no reason for Neil Best to post it, or Peter Abraham, or any other baseball blog that decided to post it."

Its nice to know you can read and comprehend the words that I typed above. That is completely correct!!!!

"There were other readers on this blog who liked the post. So I guess it wasn't completely pointless, huh?"

    Hmmm....MAYBE GREG!!!

However, the more realistic conclusion is that the other people that liked your post probably enjoy going to a yankee blog and reading abotu old dead yankee mothers of famous people. I dont, because it is pointless.

    Thank you.

I dont knwo why I got soo worked up over this to be honest. I simply wanted to let you know that I thought it was just a dumb thing that doesn't jive with the rest of the content on your site - or any yankee site. I also generally think that famous people who use the public ariwaves for thier own personal issues are using them for the wrong reasons. To me it is self serving and principally selfish. Many people in this world grieve the loss of loved ones and don't have the chance or even the desire of throwing it down the throat of the general public by way of the television ariwaves. this is what KO and everyother person on TV does with garbage like this. You posting it, with the very attenuated connection to the yanks is simply furthering the self serving nature that the "tribute" took in the first place. That, in a nut shell is why it is pointless, and in many ways, wrong, for these things to be thrown around like they are. Whether it is TV or a secondary outlet like this blog.

  16. Because I asked you a question, and in your reply you made this sarcastic comment,

About something I could not have previously read because you hadn't written it yet.

Greg: I did write it, in my long post up there when I said that all the other guys that posted this clip were pointless too. I was being sarcastic because I thought you were being sarcastic in repeating my words. It turns out that you didn't even read it I guess.

Larry: I wont even dignify that one with a response. Anyone who reads it would know what to think of you anyway.

  24. Despite the fact that her son is a disgusting propagandist who labels all his opponents as fascists, nazis, etc. Despite the fact that her son was a huge cheerleader for Big O, distorts facts, and ferociously attacks all people with opposing opinions. Despite all of his crap and the fact that I can't watch the B.S. he feeds down so many drones' minds, and me being conservative... R.I.P. Mrs. Olbermann, forever part of Yankee lore when Knoublach threw a ball at your head. And at least at one point Keith was well liked by everyone at ESPN.
