News & Notes

- Peter Abraham has the final payroll totals heading into the '09 season and the Yankees did come in under last year's mark. He has all the salaries for the 25-man roster plus any players on the DL. He also added in any bonus payments being paid this year. With all that added up he has them with a payroll of $206,880,950. You can see his complete breakdown here.

- Vice President Joe Biden will be throwing out today's ceremonial first pitch.

- Joe Girardi told the writers that A-Rod will report to Tampa on Monday.

- Thanks to all of you who voted in the "Who should leadoff?" poll. Surprisingly, Johnny Damon got the most votes with 108, Derek Jeter was a close second with 100, "It doesn't matter" followed with 161, and "Other" got just 28 votes. I'm assuming most of those people think Gadner should be leading off.

According to The Yankees: Minors to Majors the Yankees also released RHP Nick Asselin, RHP Israel Batista, RHP Jacinto Gonell, C Ben Blumenthal, OF Isaiah Howes, and OF Andres Perez.

- The weather in Baltimore looks like it's clearing up, at least according to Weather.com it is. Here's the hourly forecast.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hahahaha, they hate Tex so much.

    ReplyDelete
  17. i love the hate.. he looked pumped when he was introduced

    ReplyDelete
  18. What's even better is how the Yankees were all laughing at it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Me too Dan. I think they do too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. damn i should have played hooky and drove down to Baltimore. I'm definitely pumped that the start of the season is finally here. On a lighter note I presented my "got coke" t-shirt idea from last year to bald Vinny on Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  21. What's up M-Rod, I was considering doing that too, but decided it was too much of a hassle.

Yea I'm pumped too. So glad the season is finally here.

What did Vinny say about the shirt?

    ReplyDelete
  22. he laughed, and said "why didn't I think of that?"

    ReplyDelete
  23. Nice, they'll be on River Ave. by the first homestand.

    ReplyDelete
  24. They really hate Teix. He likes it and I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I was just telling a friend of mine that. I love that the Yankees are hated as much as they are.

    ReplyDelete
  26. even the calm and collected Ken Singleton seems pumped for the Yankees... this year is gonna be special

    ReplyDelete
  27. Biden threw a laser to homeplate. lol!

    ReplyDelete
  28. please God let this be the year

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's a strike.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like this team a lot. The past few seasons I've had to convince myself that the team was good enough to win it all, but not this year.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is a battle.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Base hit!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    ReplyDelete
  34. There still booing him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. lol... i cant here u O's fans

    ReplyDelete
  36. and still, not one person boos matsui

    ReplyDelete
  37. The fans are saying

    "YANKEES SUCK, YANKEES SUCK" LOL

    ReplyDelete
  38. Here comes CC!!
    Not me

    ReplyDelete
  39. of course.. every fan of other teams chant that

    ReplyDelete
  40. will the real CC please get a win, please get a win

    ReplyDelete
  41. Nothing like good old Yankees hatred... I guess 11 losing seasons in a row will do that to you.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Not every team.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Alright lets go CC.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Yankees.

    CC stinks.

    ReplyDelete
  45. thats why i said every fan of other teams

    ReplyDelete
  46. Whats not Captain?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh, sorry Dan.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wow, not a good start for CC. He needs a ground ball.

    ReplyDelete
  49. You said the Yankees stink, I thought it was that Hitler dude.

    Come on CC settle down.

    ReplyDelete
  50. He freaking went... Umps already screwing us.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh no. I was making fun of the Orioles funs Greg. I would never say anything like that. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hitler? That guy is a b*tch.

    ReplyDelete
  53. CC has a very nice curve.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Another past ball.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Good play by Ransom.

    ReplyDelete
  56. NICE JOB JETER!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Where did Jorge get hit?

    ReplyDelete
  58. is chad moeller on the orioles?

    ReplyDelete
  59. I see.

BILLY TRABER!!!! I hate him so much. More than Hitler.

    ReplyDelete
  60. OK, maybe not as much as Hitler.

    ReplyDelete
  61. This Hitler thing is never going to end. I think he will be back.

I just realize that i'm watching the game and i'm not asleep or sleepy yet. WOW!

    ReplyDelete
  62. 0/2 when getting the leadoff hitter on base... hopefully thats not the case the whole year

    ReplyDelete
  63. Looks like CC settled down a bit. Probably a little too amped up in his first Yankee inning.

    ReplyDelete
  64. And the Yankees take the lead 1-0 on a Johnny Damon sac-fly.

    ReplyDelete
  65. i missed entirely too much! hola guys!

    ReplyDelete
  66. watchin' this game. is it me, or sabathia doesn't look too comfortable pitching inside to right handed hitters?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think he's just too pumped up. He needs to relax.

    ReplyDelete
  68. 2-1 hoes......... i mean o's. he really needs to settle down.

    ReplyDelete
  69. 3-1. i think that's what they have in oriole park

    ReplyDelete
  70. Why can't this fat piece of shit throw a damn strike?

    ReplyDelete
  71. it's like he can't find the strikezone! makin' me nervous over here!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ummm if he keeps this up he better get used to being booed. The honeymoon period ends when you lose a game.

    ReplyDelete
  73. That's so true Greg. I already am pissed at this fat fuck.

    ReplyDelete
  74. not only can he not throw a strike, this isn't murder's row either, outside of roberts, & markaksis, no one in this lineup should scare us... but CC is making them look better then they are....

    ReplyDelete
  75. someone needs to go out and talk him down. if he's staring at the sky in personal frustration between pitches, and he's built this game up to big in his head someone needs to chill him the hell out.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Seriously, if Opening Day as a Yankee is too much for him to handle, what's he going to do against the Red Sox in September?

Nice play there by Tex there.

    ReplyDelete
  77. It's not that it's too much for him to handle. April's just not his month. But he's lights out the rest of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ok John Sterling needs to shut up about Gardner hitting at the end of the line up as some genius scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  79. The Yankees cannot afford to have him have a bad April. They need a good start, especially with Boston and Tampa in their division.

    ReplyDelete
  80. What the fuck was Matsui swinging at?

How about working the damn count?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I cant see, i'm stuck with radio - was the Teixeira walk pitch close?? In that scenario he needs to actually prevent the walk, he needs to work Guthrie until he gets something he can hit to bring that run in. He shouldn't look to walk to let Matsui bring in the run.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Why does CC have an heat pack around his ribs?

    ReplyDelete
  83. exactly! we need to start out in the division on top! the sox and rays are rained out today, and the jays play later on. this would be good for us to start out 1-0 on top of the division. but sabathia needs to really find that strikezone and do his thing! if he pitches like this on the 16th, hell will have no mercy on him!

    ReplyDelete
  84. The pitch to Teixeira was a strike.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Well this is just about as bad as could be expected minus an injury.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hello Chosen one.

    CC isn't doing so good.

    ReplyDelete
  87. waddup liam
yeah, CC isn't doing good at all. the yankees are once again lacking aggression.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Looks like after today CC will be 5-1 against the O's

    ReplyDelete
  89. well wtf is this?
    80 pitches/ 43 strikes
he's gotta be gone by 90 pitches

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yup Anon, sure does.

I wish they didn't have a day off tomorrow. I hate off days, especially after a loss.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I know chosen one. They should be winning this game.

    ReplyDelete
  92. ugly.. every batter this inning should have been an out

    ReplyDelete
  93. WOW, two bad plays by Ransom.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I know it's just game one, but Ramiro Pena will be starting if Ransom keeps this up.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I thought Ransom was a good defender....

    ReplyDelete
  96. If the next batter reaches base CC is done. They can't afford anymore runs.

    ReplyDelete
  97. wow, lackin' aggression something serious!

    ReplyDelete
  98. "If the next batter reaches base CC is done. They can't afford anymore runs."

CC can't afford any more pitches. He's at 90 now. He's thrown too much in recent years at it is, they should be holding his count down in April - especially in a Loss. No sense wasting pitches for this shit.

    ReplyDelete
  99. this looks like a game from last year.. no offense, no d, shaky pitching

    ReplyDelete
  100. I been waiting for the first game of the year for a long time and we have to see this!

    ReplyDelete
  101. my heart hurts watching this game!

    ReplyDelete
  102. i no Liam.. im gonna be hearing shit from Met, Red Sox, and O's fans after this.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Scott is a god damn 2.66 lifetime hitter. Just throw the ball over the freaking plate. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  104. OMG!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. walked Scott are you shitting me after being ahead 2-0?

CC's lucky he had this warm up on the road. He'll get another start to fix this before he'll have to meet his maker at the stadium. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hitler got his wish today.

    ReplyDelete
  107. so damn frustrating.. hopefully we can get out of this jam and the offense can score some runs.

i really hate losing the 1st game of a series, especially the 1st game of the season

    ReplyDelete
  108. I'm sorry, but I think that's all on Posada. He didn't come inside once on that at-bat, and barely did so the entire day. What revived Mussina's career last year? He started coming inside with fastballs again. Who caught Mussina most of the season? Jose Molina. Posada never challenges hitters when he's ahead in the count. He's always trying to get them to chase away. He's doing the same thing with Albaladejo now.

    ReplyDelete
  109. here we go.. score some runs now!

    ReplyDelete
  110. NICE GARDY!

    ReplyDelete
  111. I've already mentally chalked this one up as a loss. If they win it will be a pleasant surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Like I said, Hitler got his wish.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Homerun by Jorge!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Wow these umps are awful... Mora was so clearly safe. At least we're not getting screwed this time.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Did Kay just call Brian Bass, Brian Bannister?

    ReplyDelete
  116. That was not the wurst call I ever seen Greg.

    ReplyDelete
  117. That a boy Nady.

    ReplyDelete
  118. No Liam it wasn't the worst call, that goes to the phantom steal last year against the Mariners. I think Bloomquist was the runner. But this one was pretty bad.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Cody needs to make up for those crappy defensive plays.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Thats one was still not the worst call i've seen. I do remember that though.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Ramiro Pena should start on Wednesday.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Ransom stinks today.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yes he should Captain.

    ReplyDelete
  124. and just like that the rally dies.. we need this run!

    ReplyDelete
  125. This is why we should have Berroa up here. He swings the bat.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Damn it Jeter just score the run already!

    ReplyDelete
  127. How the hell does Thompson let that happen?

    Fucking shit.

    ReplyDelete
  128. NADY NOOOOOOOOOO!

    Seea guys.

    ReplyDelete
  129. fucking bullshit

    ReplyDelete
  130. Wow Nady. I'll even look past the baserunning mistake. But you just stand there and wait to be tagged? I mean, I think most of us don't want you on the field anyway when we have Mr. Hustle Nick Swisher sitting on the bench. Girardi is gonna tear him a new a-hole.

    ReplyDelete
  131. But why isn't Thompson telling him the ball is still on the infield? That's what I want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I agree Greg, the third base coach does have a job to do and it seems that he was as deep in sleep as Nady was.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Damon starts the Yankees off with a single... hopefully it leads to something...

    ReplyDelete
  134. Nice Hideki ... now it's 6-5 O's.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Damn it Nady, are you trying to lose your starting spot?

    ReplyDelete
  136. u spelled ur first name wrong Nady

    ReplyDelete
  137. I just got back from the party. Man CC stunk. But a nice inning for Coke just now.

Also, my dad surprised me this morning. He got tickets for the 4/8 game at Camden Yards. My seats are 4 rows behind the Yankees dugout. I'm so excited!!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Sorry, but if CC were to sign with anyone else, he would of probably started with 10K shutout. This just seems to happen to the Yankees all the time. Tex is 0-3. No one can just have a nice fast start with us...its so depressing

    ReplyDelete
  139. make a sign so we can see u B-Boy

    ReplyDelete
  140. I'm not watching the game. Hay B-Boy, nice seats. How was the party? Why is Nady on here?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Defenitely Dan.

    Liam,

Yeah, they're awesome seats. The party was great. I got 2nd place in one of the games with 1,700 points.

Ground-rule double by Swish. Pena pinch ran and is on third with a Gradner bunt, and Jeter is up.

    ReplyDelete
  142. what the hell is Girardi doing? Sac bunt with no outs and tie run and on second and top of the order hitting? wtf? its not the winning run on second.

great now two outs. that was idiotic.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Nice. Glad you had fun.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Greg I just realized this, we broke the comments record. Last was 164.

    ReplyDelete
  145. YES! Damon walked, Teixeira is up! Come on bomb it over the wall!

    ReplyDelete
  146. ok Teixeira earns his paycheck here. NYPost headline will be written with this at bat. If Teixeira bones this they'll slam the new freelancers.

    ReplyDelete
  147. DAMN! Ground ball out. Still 6-5 Orioles.

    ReplyDelete
  148. no clutch hitting of course.. same old disappointing yankees

    ReplyDelete
  149. I know! I can't believe this. They did the same exact thing every game last year.

    ReplyDelete
  150. that bunt was such a crap wimp move.

    ReplyDelete
  151. i think Andy Phillips and Kei Igawa would have combined to have a better game than what Tex and CC combined to do today

    ReplyDelete
  152. Well Gardy has speed, but you're right. He probably could have got a base hit or a double if the Yanks let him bat.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Do you mean Shelly Duncan and Ian Kennady?

    ReplyDelete
  154. them too... fuck my life

    ReplyDelete
  155. Is the score still 6-5?

    ReplyDelete
  156. WTF was that? It was a home run but a fan interfered. Fucking Jeffery Mair copiers.

    ReplyDelete
  157. 201 f*ckin comments. NICE

    ReplyDelete
  158. Wow. YES picks the interference home run as the play of the game.

    ReplyDelete
  159. how does one turn of this pagination?

    ReplyDelete
  160. i feel like drinking myself to death

    ReplyDelete
