News & Notes
- Peter Abraham has the final payroll totals heading into the '09 season and the Yankees did come in under last year's mark. He has all the salaries for the 25-man roster plus any players on the DL. He also added in any bonus payments being paid this year. With all that added up he has them with a payroll of $206,880,950. You can see his complete breakdown here.
- Vice President Joe Biden will be throwing out today's ceremonial first pitch.
- Joe Girardi told the writers that A-Rod will report to Tampa on Monday.
- Thanks to all of you who voted in the "Who should leadoff?" poll. Surprisingly, Johnny Damon got the most votes with 108, Derek Jeter was a close second with 100, "It doesn't matter" followed with 161, and "Other" got just 28 votes. I'm assuming most of those people think Gadner should be leading off.
According to The Yankees: Minors to Majors the Yankees also released RHP Nick Asselin, RHP Israel Batista, RHP Jacinto Gonell, C Ben Blumenthal, OF Isaiah Howes, and OF Andres Perez.
- The weather in Baltimore looks like it's clearing up, at least according to Weather.com it is. Here's the hourly forecast.

crazy stuff down there.
ReplyDeleteSee you guys later.
ReplyDeleteYea, that thread turned into a complete train wreck.
ReplyDeleteRays - Sox rained out today, just fyi.
ReplyDeleteSpring training is finally over!
Sure is ove. I'm so glad.
ReplyDeleteThat was some series preview Greg. What a nice way to start the season. With yo mamma jokes. lol
ReplyDeleteYea I saw that anonymoose... It looks like the Yankees will be able to get the game in, though.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I know Liam, hopefully it's not a sign of things to come.
ReplyDeleteYeah the weather looks like it might hold up for all three games in Baltimore.
ReplyDeletefinally Yankee baseball baby
ReplyDeleteIt's raining there!!!
ReplyDeleteDamn it, s***, f***, stop raining!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it stopped on the pregame show.
ReplyDeletei think i stopped.. the radar shows that the line of showers has pushed out of Baltimore.. we will get the game in
ReplyDeleteDO WORK YANKEES!!! Im so pumped man.... LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, they hate Tex so much.
ReplyDeletei love the hate.. he looked pumped when he was introduced
ReplyDeleteWhat's even better is how the Yankees were all laughing at it.
ReplyDeleteMe too Dan. I think they do too.
ReplyDeletedamn i should have played hooky and drove down to Baltimore. I'm definitely pumped that the start of the season is finally here. On a lighter note I presented my "got coke" t-shirt idea from last year to bald Vinny on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up M-Rod, I was considering doing that too, but decided it was too much of a hassle.
ReplyDeleteYea I'm pumped too. So glad the season is finally here.
What did Vinny say about the shirt?
he laughed, and said "why didn't I think of that?"
ReplyDeleteNice, they'll be on River Ave. by the first homestand.
ReplyDeleteThey really hate Teix. He likes it and I like it.
ReplyDeleteI was just telling a friend of mine that. I love that the Yankees are hated as much as they are.
ReplyDeleteeven the calm and collected Ken Singleton seems pumped for the Yankees... this year is gonna be special
ReplyDeleteBiden threw a laser to homeplate. lol!
ReplyDeleteLet's play ball!!!
ReplyDeleteplease God let this be the year
ReplyDeleteIt's a strike.
ReplyDeleteI like this team a lot. The past few seasons I've had to convince myself that the team was good enough to win it all, but not this year.
ReplyDeletesame here Greg
ReplyDeleteThis is a battle.
ReplyDeleteWay to start it off Jeet.
ReplyDeleteBase hit!!!
ReplyDeleteBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteThere still booing him.
ReplyDeletelol... i cant here u O's fans
ReplyDeleteand still, not one person boos matsui
ReplyDeleteThe fans are saying
ReplyDelete"YANKEES SUCK, YANKEES SUCK" LOL
Here comes CC!!
ReplyDeleteNot me
of course.. every fan of other teams chant that
ReplyDeletewill the real CC please get a win, please get a win
ReplyDeleteNothing like good old Yankees hatred... I guess 11 losing seasons in a row will do that to you.
ReplyDeleteNot every team.
ReplyDeleteAlright lets go CC.
ReplyDeletewhat team doesnt?
ReplyDeleteThe Yankees.
ReplyDeleteCC stinks.
True Dan.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's not Liam.
thats why i said every fan of other teams
ReplyDeletedamn, bad start
ReplyDeleteWhats not Captain?
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry Dan.
ReplyDeleteWow, not a good start for CC. He needs a ground ball.
ReplyDeleteYou said the Yankees stink, I thought it was that Hitler dude.
ReplyDeleteCome on CC settle down.
He freaking went... Umps already screwing us.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I was making fun of the Orioles funs Greg. I would never say anything like that. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteOh I see.
ReplyDeleteHitler? That guy is a b*tch.
ReplyDeleteCC has a very nice curve.
ReplyDeleteAnother past ball.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Cody.
ReplyDeleteGood play by Ransom.
ReplyDeleteNICE JOB JETER!!
ReplyDeleteya
ReplyDeleteWhere did Jorge get hit?
ReplyDeleteBilly Traber? Whoa!
ReplyDeleteHis foot.
ReplyDeleteis chad moeller on the orioles?
ReplyDeleteYes he is.
ReplyDeleteI see.
ReplyDeleteBILLY TRABER!!!! I hate him so much. More than Hitler.
Wow, that's some hate.
ReplyDeleteOK, maybe not as much as Hitler.
ReplyDeleteThis Hitler thing is never going to end. I think he will be back.
ReplyDeleteI just realize that i'm watching the game and i'm not asleep or sleepy yet. WOW!
0/2 when getting the leadoff hitter on base... hopefully thats not the case the whole year
ReplyDeleteHope not.
ReplyDeleteLooks like CC settled down a bit. Probably a little too amped up in his first Yankee inning.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Yankees take the lead 1-0 on a Johnny Damon sac-fly.
ReplyDeletei missed entirely too much! hola guys!
ReplyDeleteWhat's up "The One"?
ReplyDeletewatchin' this game. is it me, or sabathia doesn't look too comfortable pitching inside to right handed hitters?
ReplyDeleteI think he's just too pumped up. He needs to relax.
ReplyDeleteWas Nady running in quicksand?
ReplyDelete2-1 hoes......... i mean o's. he really needs to settle down.
ReplyDelete3-1. i think that's what they have in oriole park
ReplyDeleteWhy can't this fat piece of shit throw a damn strike?
ReplyDeleteit's like he can't find the strikezone! makin' me nervous over here!
ReplyDeleteUmmm if he keeps this up he better get used to being booed. The honeymoon period ends when you lose a game.
ReplyDeleteThat's so true Greg. I already am pissed at this fat fuck.
ReplyDeletenot only can he not throw a strike, this isn't murder's row either, outside of roberts, & markaksis, no one in this lineup should scare us... but CC is making them look better then they are....
ReplyDeletesomeone needs to go out and talk him down. if he's staring at the sky in personal frustration between pitches, and he's built this game up to big in his head someone needs to chill him the hell out.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, if Opening Day as a Yankee is too much for him to handle, what's he going to do against the Red Sox in September?
ReplyDeleteNice play there by Tex there.
It's not that it's too much for him to handle. April's just not his month. But he's lights out the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteOk John Sterling needs to shut up about Gardner hitting at the end of the line up as some genius scenario.
ReplyDeleteThe Yankees cannot afford to have him have a bad April. They need a good start, especially with Boston and Tampa in their division.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck was Matsui swinging at?
ReplyDeleteHow about working the damn count?
I cant see, i'm stuck with radio - was the Teixeira walk pitch close?? In that scenario he needs to actually prevent the walk, he needs to work Guthrie until he gets something he can hit to bring that run in. He shouldn't look to walk to let Matsui bring in the run.
ReplyDeleteWhy does CC have an heat pack around his ribs?
ReplyDeleteexactly! we need to start out in the division on top! the sox and rays are rained out today, and the jays play later on. this would be good for us to start out 1-0 on top of the division. but sabathia needs to really find that strikezone and do his thing! if he pitches like this on the 16th, hell will have no mercy on him!
ReplyDeleteThe pitch to Teixeira was a strike.
ReplyDeletegod damn it
ReplyDeleteWell this is just about as bad as could be expected minus an injury.
ReplyDeleteHello Chosen one.
ReplyDeleteCC isn't doing so good.
waddup liam
ReplyDeleteyeah, CC isn't doing good at all. the yankees are once again lacking aggression.
Looks like after today CC will be 5-1 against the O's
ReplyDeletewell wtf is this?
ReplyDelete80 pitches/ 43 strikes
he's gotta be gone by 90 pitches
Yup Anon, sure does.
ReplyDeleteI wish they didn't have a day off tomorrow. I hate off days, especially after a loss.
I know chosen one. They should be winning this game.
ReplyDeleteugly.. every batter this inning should have been an out
ReplyDeleteWOW, two bad plays by Ransom.
ReplyDeleteI know it's just game one, but Ramiro Pena will be starting if Ransom keeps this up.
ReplyDeleteI thought Ransom was a good defender....
ReplyDeleteIf the next batter reaches base CC is done. They can't afford anymore runs.
ReplyDeletewow, lackin' aggression something serious!
ReplyDeleteI no
ReplyDelete"If the next batter reaches base CC is done. They can't afford anymore runs."
ReplyDeleteCC can't afford any more pitches. He's at 90 now. He's thrown too much in recent years at it is, they should be holding his count down in April - especially in a Loss. No sense wasting pitches for this shit.
this looks like a game from last year.. no offense, no d, shaky pitching
ReplyDeleteI been waiting for the first game of the year for a long time and we have to see this!
ReplyDeletemy heart hurts watching this game!
ReplyDeletei no Liam.. im gonna be hearing shit from Met, Red Sox, and O's fans after this.
ReplyDeleteScott is a god damn 2.66 lifetime hitter. Just throw the ball over the freaking plate. LOL
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletewalked Scott are you shitting me after being ahead 2-0?
ReplyDeleteCC's lucky he had this warm up on the road. He'll get another start to fix this before he'll have to meet his maker at the stadium. LOL
Hitler got his wish today.
ReplyDeleteso damn frustrating.. hopefully we can get out of this jam and the offense can score some runs.
ReplyDeletei really hate losing the 1st game of a series, especially the 1st game of the season
I'm sorry, but I think that's all on Posada. He didn't come inside once on that at-bat, and barely did so the entire day. What revived Mussina's career last year? He started coming inside with fastballs again. Who caught Mussina most of the season? Jose Molina. Posada never challenges hitters when he's ahead in the count. He's always trying to get them to chase away. He's doing the same thing with Albaladejo now.
ReplyDeletehere we go.. score some runs now!
ReplyDeleteNICE GARDY!
ReplyDeleteI've already mentally chalked this one up as a loss. If they win it will be a pleasant surprise.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, Hitler got his wish.
ReplyDeleteHomerun by Jorge!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a start.
ReplyDeleteWow these umps are awful... Mora was so clearly safe. At least we're not getting screwed this time.
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteDid Kay just call Brian Bass, Brian Bannister?
ReplyDeleteThat was not the wurst call I ever seen Greg.
ReplyDeleteThat a boy Nady.
ReplyDeletekeep it going boys
ReplyDeleteNo Liam it wasn't the worst call, that goes to the phantom steal last year against the Mariners. I think Bloomquist was the runner. But this one was pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteCody needs to make up for those crappy defensive plays.
ReplyDeleteThats one was still not the worst call i've seen. I do remember that though.
ReplyDeleteRamiro Pena should start on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteRansom stinks today.
ReplyDeleteHey Kay, his name isn't Brent.
ReplyDeleteYes he should Captain.
ReplyDeleteand just like that the rally dies.. we need this run!
ReplyDeleteThis is why we should have Berroa up here. He swings the bat.
ReplyDeleteYup Dan, just like last year.
ReplyDeleteDamn it Jeter just score the run already!
ReplyDeletedumbass!
ReplyDeleteHow the hell does Thompson let that happen?
ReplyDeleteFucking shit.
NADY NOOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteSeea guys.
See ya Liam.
ReplyDeletefucking bullshit
ReplyDeleteWow Nady. I'll even look past the baserunning mistake. But you just stand there and wait to be tagged? I mean, I think most of us don't want you on the field anyway when we have Mr. Hustle Nick Swisher sitting on the bench. Girardi is gonna tear him a new a-hole.
ReplyDeleteBut why isn't Thompson telling him the ball is still on the infield? That's what I want to know.
ReplyDeleteI agree Greg, the third base coach does have a job to do and it seems that he was as deep in sleep as Nady was.
ReplyDeleteSCORE RUNS NOW
ReplyDeleteDamon starts the Yankees off with a single... hopefully it leads to something...
ReplyDeleteNice Hideki ... now it's 6-5 O's.
ReplyDeleteDamn it Nady, are you trying to lose your starting spot?
ReplyDeleteYes I am Greg.
ReplyDeleteu spelled ur first name wrong Nady
ReplyDeleteWe suck.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from the party. Man CC stunk. But a nice inning for Coke just now.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my dad surprised me this morning. He got tickets for the 4/8 game at Camden Yards. My seats are 4 rows behind the Yankees dugout. I'm so excited!!
Sorry, but if CC were to sign with anyone else, he would of probably started with 10K shutout. This just seems to happen to the Yankees all the time. Tex is 0-3. No one can just have a nice fast start with us...its so depressing
ReplyDeletemake a sign so we can see u B-Boy
ReplyDeleteI'm not watching the game. Hay B-Boy, nice seats. How was the party? Why is Nady on here?
ReplyDeletestart swisher!
ReplyDeleteDefenitely Dan.
ReplyDeleteLiam,
Yeah, they're awesome seats. The party was great. I got 2nd place in one of the games with 1,700 points.
Ground-rule double by Swish. Pena pinch ran and is on third with a Gradner bunt, and Jeter is up.
fucking Jeter
ReplyDeletewhat the hell is Girardi doing? Sac bunt with no outs and tie run and on second and top of the order hitting? wtf? its not the winning run on second.
ReplyDeletegreat now two outs. that was idiotic.
Nice. Glad you had fun.
ReplyDeleteGreg I just realized this, we broke the comments record. Last was 164.
ReplyDeleteYES! Damon walked, Teixeira is up! Come on bomb it over the wall!
ReplyDeleteok Teixeira earns his paycheck here. NYPost headline will be written with this at bat. If Teixeira bones this they'll slam the new freelancers.
ReplyDeleteDAMN! Ground ball out. Still 6-5 Orioles.
ReplyDeleteno clutch hitting of course.. same old disappointing yankees
ReplyDeleteCrap
ReplyDeleteI know! I can't believe this. They did the same exact thing every game last year.
ReplyDeletethat bunt was such a crap wimp move.
ReplyDeletei think Andy Phillips and Kei Igawa would have combined to have a better game than what Tex and CC combined to do today
ReplyDeleteWell Gardy has speed, but you're right. He probably could have got a base hit or a double if the Yanks let him bat.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean Shelly Duncan and Ian Kennady?
ReplyDeletethem too... fuck my life
ReplyDeleteGood one.
ReplyDeleteIs the score still 6-5?
ReplyDeleteWTF was that? It was a home run but a fan interfered. Fucking Jeffery Mair copiers.
ReplyDeleteGood one
ReplyDelete8-5. Shit.
ReplyDelete8-5
ReplyDeleteNice
ReplyDeleteHay Hitler
ReplyDeleteHay
ReplyDelete201 f*ckin comments. NICE
ReplyDeleteWow. YES picks the interference home run as the play of the game.
ReplyDeletehow does one turn of this pagination?
ReplyDeleteThats great.
ReplyDeletei feel like drinking myself to death
ReplyDeletejurk
ReplyDelete
