News & Notes

- Andy Pettitte has made 36 appearances (35 starts) against Toronto in his career. In those games he's 17-11, with a 4.19 ERA. At Rogers Centre/Sky Dome, he's 12-5, with a 4.04 ERA in 19 games (18 starts). Last season against the Jays he went 1-2, with a 5.05 ERA in three starts, and was 1-1, with a 3.46 ERA at Rogers Centre.

- In 11 career starts in the big leagues 27-year-old Scott Richmond is 5-4, with a 3.58 ERA. This season he's 4-1, with a 3.29 ERA in six start.

- Brian Bruney threw 25 pitched off the mound today. He said he felt fine and he'll throw again on Friday.

- Hideki Matsui said he could have played tonight, but Girardi held him out of the lineup just to be careful. The lefty pitcher doesn't help either.

- Derek Jeter is still not able to play, he hopes to return to the lineup tomorrow.

- Phil Coke is out tonight, his back is still bothering him.

UPDATE 8:00 p.m.: Chien-Ming Wang will make his next start on Sunday for Scranton/Wilkes-Barree against Columbus.

  1. A lot of people on Pete Abraham blog are complaining about the lineup.

But what do you people expect with Jeter, Posada, Nady and Matsui all hurt, you are going to have a weaker lineup. At the start of the season the yankees had a strong bench.

The lineup is still good enough to win. The defense should be an upgrade tonight with Pettitte pitching.

  2. There's not much Girardi can do at this point. I'd probably bat Gardner or Melky second, and drop Swisher to sixth. Just so there aren't four automatic outs at the bottom, three is bad enough. Plus Gardner can bunt and the way Damon had been hitting he'll probably have a couple chances to move him along.

  3. The first 10 game winning streak of the season starts tonight!

  5. The 2 fake umpires are back behind home plate.

    They are pretty funny.

  7. another wonderful start

  8. Jesus, throw strikes Andy.

And what the hell is going on with Teixeira's glove? It's one thing to be struggling at the plate, but don't carry it onto the field.

  9. Tex is a goober

  13. Wow, Gardner homered... Unbelievable... I wanted him to bunt.

    ReplyDelete
  14. What team is this and what have they done with our awful Yankees?

    ReplyDelete
  15. lol.... Hopefully they can tac on a few more and make this a real laugher. I'm still not comfortable with a four-run lead.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gardner has been hanging out with A-Rod.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Derek Jeter who?

    ReplyDelete
  18. It's a small sample size, but doesn't this team seem to play with a little more energy when Pena's in the game?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well I guess never facing Richmond didn't really bother anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Schruender,

This time it did not. Thank goodness for that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. swisher has been hitting worse than ransom lately

    ReplyDelete
  22. Swisher has been bad, you're right.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Like how A-Rod's just taking his walks tonight, just his presence in the lineup is really gonna start to make a difference. Tex 2 for 2 tonight.

  24. wow the 2nd inning was the best offensive inning that yanks have had this year. or the best i can remember at this point. haha

    ReplyDelete
  25. Teixeira's had three great at-bats, maybe this is the game that turns him around.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Here's where the Yankees blow it. This team sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. PETTITTE HAD BETTER GET HIS HEAD OUT OF HIS ASS, STOP WALKING THESE RETARDS, HE'S NOT GONNA MAKE IT MUCH LONGER...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Relax anon, it's still 6-2.... Oh damn it, come on Pena, you have to make that play.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It looked like the beginning of the end to me. Glad I was wrong. Still four innings to go though.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh come on, be a little optimistic.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well those two runs make me feel a little better.

    ReplyDelete
  32. yesss i love this game even though Andy isnt doing great. It feels good to be winning!

    ReplyDelete
  33. guess the turf doesnt agree with Pena

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nice to see some offensive output tonight. Andy is pitching a nice game.

  35. Tomorrow morning my family and I will be flying down to Orlando, Florida, for an 8 day stay at Walt Disney World. This is my first time going and I am very excited, but the bad news is the blog won't be updated at all until I get back (hopefully when I return the Yankees will be doing better).

So, until 8 days from now, so long, and go Yankees!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yea, great to see some offense, Crossfire.

That's great YB, have a great time. I was there twice as a kid and had a great time both times.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks. And like I said, hopefully when I come back the Yankees will be doing much better. They've been doing better tonight at least.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'll still be around for the rest of the night, but we have to be at the airport by 9 so I'm gonna go to sleep soon.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'll be convinced that Big Tex is out of his funk when he becomes the all-fields hitter everybody says he was. So far he's been a dead pull hitter, following in the path of da Giambino. But hitting to center is a start. Now start working the count and getting more singles.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's a good point, Mike. He is only pulling the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  41. just throw strikes man...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yankees Win THHHHAAAAAA YANKEES WIN!

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's really amazing how these guys just can't get the ball over the plate. .... Ahhh, there's the inning ending DP. Still, gotta throw strikes. Mo should never have had to even stand up let alone make a few warmup pitches.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i want that job, where do i sign up to drive like an ass on the field?

    ReplyDelete
  45. My final Yankee game before I leave and it ends on a high note. Good job!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Aceves looked pretty good. I hope he can one of the better guys out there in the 'pen.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Tex is still a goober.

    -vag.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anon,

Aceves did look good, hopefully Joe starts using him more.

    YB,

Maybe it's a sign of better things to come.

    ReplyDelete
  49. CC needs to dominate tomorrow and send a message to Toronto then go home for the 10 game homestand on a high note (even though that new monstrosity doesn't provide much of an advantage)
