News & Notes

- Tonight will be Sergio Mitre's first big league start since 9/15/2007 as a Marlin. In nine starts for Single-A Tampa and Triple-A Scranton he went 4-1 with a 2.32 ERA, and allowed 50 hits, struck out 43, and walked just seven walks over 54.1 innings.

- Brett Tomko has been DFA'd to make room for Mitre.

- Orioles' left-hander Rich Hill has only face the Yankees once, back in 2005, and in that game he allowed a run on a hit in 1/3 of a inning of relief.

- The Yankees are 18-10 against lefties and are hitting .291/.375/.492 against them. The .291 average is second in all of baseball against left-handers.

- If the Yanks can win tonight or tomorrow it will be the Yankees eighth series win in nine tries.

- The Yankees have won seven of the ten games against the O's this year, including the last five in a row.

- In their last 22 games they're 17-5, and they're now tied with the Red Sox for first place.

- In their last 33 home games the Yankees are 24-9.

- A happy birthday to Yankees starter CC Sabathia. The big lefty turns 29 today.

  1. wow nice move...matsui gets rewarded for his walk off home run by not starting tonight and cody ransom is in the lineup playing thrid for the DHing a-rod. matsui needs to be in the lineup on a regular basis, no matter if theyre facing a lefty or righty

  2. Tomko was DFA'd. Looks like we'll be seeing more of Melancon.

What did Gardner do wrong? He was passed over twice when righties were pitching. Tonight is a lefty, but Gardner has only started one game in 4. I wouldn't say Melky has been on fire.

  3. Kevin, this is one problem I have with Girardi. He stick to 'his plan', and th' heck with whomever is hot. Like I said above, I am wondering what happened to Gardner.

In fairness I don't expect Gardner to start tonight, but here you have a team that has been struggling to score runs and you sit down Matsui in favor of Ransom. I want to see a hitting lineup tonight because I do not expect Mitre to be anything fantastic. Think Sidney Ponson....

  4. Thanks for the update on Tomko, Steve.

I don't get sitting Matsui either. He hits lefties fine.

  5. guys, i'm really bothered by this also, but Arod does need a day off at third. They cant play matsui at third and they dont wanna leave AROD's bat out so they get rid of matsui, and ranom plays 3rd with arod DH-ing.

  6. Doesn't Hinske play third as well?

    ReplyDelete
  7. ya he does, wow now that really makes me wonder what giradi was thinkin. I believe that was 1 of the reasons they got him.

  8. Girardi must not like the TV show "The King of Queens" or something. When my girlfriend said Hinske looks like Kevin James, I knew it had to be true.

No real need to play Hinske- all he does is hit a home run every time he's in the lineup.

    Girardi! GROAN.

  9. Can we just get Ransom off the ML roster, send his ass down and bring Pena back up. I know they wanna make him into a super utility guy and get him reps in the outfield, but that's what spring training and the off-season training are for. All Ransom does is make errors and hurt the team.

  10. Another game, another rain delay. Looks like Girardi is giving ARod his weekly "half day off". I guess that would explain the Matsui benching. But still, Ransom is a disaster at 3rd...

  11. Mitre's showing good velocity.

  12. He's got good velocity and his pitches were down. It was a good hit by Roberts.

  14. I've been pretty impressed with Mitre so far.

  15. Wait, did Cano actually hit a home run with runners on base?

    ReplyDelete
  16. As Damon gets older and more crippled, does his arms shrink as well, god i can not wait for him to be gone, he was a total waste of money/payroll/roster spot, captain caveman, can't catch, can't field, can't throw, & is barely hitting lately..

  17. He is a terrible OFer and we won't win in the playoffs with him.

  18. Not a bad job at all by Mitre. If he could have gotten through the sixth without giving up a run, it would have looked great.

  19. I am watching the O's broadcast on Extra innings... wow their announcers are harsh.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jeter should be playing second.

  21. Man arods BA still sucks. He's going to have to hit the tar out of the ball just to get to 280.

  22. I have no problem with what Mitre did tonight, do that every time and I'll be happy. He is the fifth starter after all.

What are the O's announcers saying? How are they harsh?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love how the center field scoreboard is so bright it blows out YES exposure ballance on the stadium shot. That thing is ridiculous.

  25. W/ Damon & Matsui gone after this season, who's gonna be in the outfield next season? Is AJAX gonna be ready, & I highly doubt Nady will be back, for us or anyone, he'll be recovering awhile?

  26. Man if Texas ever got some real pitching or there young pitchers come thru, they might be dangerous, they seem to have a good farm system, too bad their owner is broke LOL, they are so lucky AROD opted out of his contract, saved them tons...

  27. They (Gary Thorne and Jim Palmer) are taking the time to point out every minor mistake that the O's players are making. From the way it sounds you would think that they were Yankees fans (not that I have a problem with that). It's kind of like listening to the idiots on FOX, but unlike McCarver, Jim Palmer know what the hell he is talking about.

  33. Nice win tonight. The sox just lost so the Yanks are alone in first place.
