Here's some more from the article:
The Yankees haven't heard back from the Mariners since Seattle requested either Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes in an initial conversation about lefty starter Jarrod Washburn, but remain interested at some price. And earlier in the day he tweeted this:
Mariners people are believed to be scouring the list of desirable Yankees players back in Seattle. Top outfield prospect Austin Jackson and catching prospects Jesus Montero and Austin Romine would probably also be off-limits in such a deal, but the Yankees have some other prospects that may interest Seattle.
While Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said on Wednesday that both sides are "open to it" in regard to the consideration for an extension for Washburn in coming months, a trade remains a very realistic possibility for the free-agent-to-be. The Mariners do like Washburn very much, however.
Last year Seattle wanted center fielder Melky Cabrera and another prospect when the sides nearly consummated a deal for Washburn. But Washburn, 8-6 with a 2.71 ERA, has a higher value now. His $37 million, four-year contract expires after this year. The Mariners told the Yankees "we'll listen'' in an initial conversation, but talks have not advanced much beyond that point.
yankees still look like best landing spot for washburn. they wouldnt give up austin jackson but have others to offer.I said earlier in the week that I was hoping they could land Washburn and a good reliever (Downs!), and I still feel that way. What about you?
Washburn, Morrow (a great young power arm you can put in triple a for insurance) For Austin Jackson
ReplyDeleteI hope they get this done!
ReplyDeletemaybe they deal Melky, that would hurt they love the kid on the team, cano & arod especially
ReplyDeletethey can't deal Melky unless they want to put Damon back in center until Gardner gets back. Yikes!!
ReplyDeleteFor a 2 month rental, it doesn't make sense to give up anything more than mid-level prospects. Igawa + something?
Anon,
ReplyDeleteNobody in baseball is taking Igawa. They've tried. Just not happening.
looks like the sox are getting close to Halladay. Dodgers are out, Phillies out, and Angels seem to be backing out.
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings on Washburn, a fly ball pitcher figures to struggle in the new stadium and his DIPS show he's in line for a major regression. On the other hand, he's still a solid pitcher having a very good year. Very tough call. Obviously Joba and Hughes are out of the question.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to upset the chmistry of this team with a huge deadline but I would like to see them add another pitcher. Right now Duscherer seems like the most interesting name.
trade melky and bring up austin jackson
ReplyDelete"Seattle requested either Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes"
ReplyDeleteobviously that was a waste of time. why would the yankees trade pitcher for pitcher, thats just stupid unless they would get a second player. but makes no sense.
Yankees are the second best team in baseball right now, with injuries, a trade only makes sense if it comes cheap. no way on earth they should trade any top prospects. They should trade 3 midlevel prospects - Seattle gets some lotto cards, NY puts away a division tittle.
Given what Philly gave up for Lee, Hughes, Joba and Montero are out of the question (thankfully). I'd like to expand that list to AJax and Romine, but I'd listen to almost any other option.
