News & Notes

Break up the Yankees? Not so fast:
They've lost the first three games of this series, four of their last five, and five of their last eight. They begin play today just a half-game up on the Red Sox in the AL East.

- CC Sabathia is 14-4, with a 3.65 ERA in 26 career starts against the White Sox. He's 7-1, with a 2.98 ERA at U.S. Cellular.

- In 8 career starts against the Yankees Mark Buehrle is 1-5, with a 6.11 ERA. The last time he faced the Yanks was on 9/15/08, and that day he lasted 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, he did not walk a batter and struck out 6 on his way to a no decision.

- The Yankees are 21-13 against left-handed starters this year, and they lead the majors with a .291 average against lefties.

- Derek Jeter leads all of baseball with a .436 BA and a .519 OBP against left-handers..

- In 2009 the Yanks are 0-11 against teams with the word "Sox" in their name.

- Mike Ashmore has a couple tweets about Jesus Montero and his hand injury. For those who don't know, he was hit on the hand by a pitch thrown by Lance Pendleton in yesterday's game and immediately left the game.

Last night he posted this: "
Big news in Yankeeland...looks like Jesus Montero might miss some time with a hand injury. P.J. Pilittere heading to Trenton."

Then had this to say a little while ago: "Will have some Montero info today, it seems. Doesn't sound good, though.
"

Updated 1:21 p.m.: Peter Abraham is now reporting that "Jesus Montero has a fractured middle finger. Out 4-6 weeks." He will miss the remainder of the minor-league season.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

  3. Anon, racial slurs and nonsense like that will not be tolerated on this blog. Ransom is horrible but let's just leave it at that.

  4. Wow, nice play by Hairston. If A-Rod is at third there's a runner on first base right now.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Where is that logo from? Did brian boitano buy the white sox?

So looks like yankees are maybe not holding up well against the tougher portion of the schedule...again. boston of course will be the big test.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That is the White Sox logo from 1949-1970.

Meanwhile, Boston is winning 7-0 already so they've already won.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Wow, another ball A-Rod wouldn't have come close to.

    ReplyDelete
  8. nice melky, people forget he's still only 24 yrs old and has been up with the yanks off/on for a few years, GOT MELK...

    ReplyDelete
  9. CC has to win this game, 3 run lead, july is over, august & sept are his best months historically, so to to start rolling CC

    ReplyDelete
  10. I agree Mario. He has to show he's this team's ace.

    ReplyDelete
  11. And just as I type that he allows an RBI single to Beckham. 3-1 Yanks.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Holy shit, the O's are only down 7-6 now.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Way to go CC, you fat piece of shit. Homer for Dye, game tied.

    ReplyDelete
  14. And now 4-3. What a waste of $160 million. My goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  15. CC implodes, 4-3 sox, game over, and I can't even blame it on Jorge this time.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Cashman is a terrible GM. He spends $400m and doesn't even get a #1 guy. Worse GM ever.

CC is not a #1 guy in the AL. Neither is Burnett. This team will have huge problems in the playoffs because of this. Just wait til they start Arod, Jeter, Posada and Damon in the field. ROFLMAO! What a horrible defense.

All put together by Cashman. He should have traded for Lee or Halladay. End of story. Heck, I would have tried to get Martinez too.

  17. i still can't get over the fact Philly & Boston really didn't give up much, really for the 2 stars they got, DO you think if the Yanks had called about Cliff Lee, would the indians have demanded more from the Yanks, cause we're the yanks, considering philly is in the NL too?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Probably Mario, but all I know do know for sure is that this team is in a lot of trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'll give the offense some credit for coming back so quickly, but CC is still pissing me off to no end.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Mario, that's what happens when Dave Eiland gets a hold on a pitching staff.

For a team with this much talent, they fall into team-wide slumps far too easily, and I blame the coaches for that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You suck Tex. Absolutely pathetic. That is why this team is still average at best.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i totally agree on that, I dont wanna make the playoffs if we're gonna get embarrassed again in the 1st round, do you think heads will roll if/when we lose? Girardi, Long, Eiland? we need a veteran pitching coach, "the idea" that eiland would help hughes & joba, cause he coached them in minors was a decent idea that has bombed totally..we need a mgr who knows how to get the most of out the players, hate to say it, but like torre did, cano needs a constant fire burning under his ass,

    ReplyDelete
  23. i thought you were getting sick of the cc bashing greg

    ReplyDelete
  24. If they miss the postseason Girardi and his entire staff will be gone. Could you imagine what this team would be like with the '96 coaching staff? They had guys playing so far above their heads it was ridiculous. Meanwhile these huckleberries have almost everyone under performing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No, I just didn't think it was completely justified before. Today's start has justified it because of how much the Yanks needed a good start from him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Melky just a triple away from the cycle, & boston is now crushing O's 14-6 in only the 4th inning,

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hairston! Geeez, maybe this guy will be a big pickup.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 13 hits, 2 extra bases, both by melky, pathetic,

    ReplyDelete
  29. cody ransom is a p.o.s

    ReplyDelete
  30. y r u bringing up ransom, he's not even playing today, anonymous, get with the program...

    ReplyDelete
  31. ok cano, he just walked the bases loaded, be patient, you retard..

    ReplyDelete
  32. we have to cash in some runs here, we leave way too many runners on base

    ReplyDelete
  33. Great, is CC on the verge of giving away this lead too?

    ReplyDelete
  34. way to go melky, how awesome a cycle, come on JORGE just get it out of the infield you BLEEP..

    ReplyDelete
  35. finally a hit w/ RISP , those are more rare with our team then hitting for the cycle

    ReplyDelete
  36. It wasn't pretty but it ended the losing streak!

Now lets hope it starts a big winning streak again.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Two things: Everybody, cool it!

Stop it with the "we're doomed" garbage! Every team goes through these struggles.

Also, thank you Melky for giving a statement to all the non-believers on how valuable you are, not just in the field. A cycle, god damnit!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I haven't quite understood the feeling of doom that some have had either. This is a damn good team. It certainly has it's flaws but there isn't a team out there that doesn't. I personally like this team a lot.

And it will be really nice to say that the last cycle hit by Melky rather than Tony Fernandez.

    Congrats Melky!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't think they're in trouble because they lost three games to the White Sox, I think they're in trouble because Sergio Mitre is their fifth starter, and soon he will be their fourth with the fifth being a mystery.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Gardner in center, Melky in right and Hairston in left.

The yankees will have a very good late inning fielding outfield in postseason or close games down the stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congrats to Melky, though, great day for him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Leiter and Kay need to stop calling Hughes cutter a slider. That pitch where he got the strikeout was his cutter not slider.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Did anyone hear the calls on the video highlights on MLB.com. They have the White Sox announcer Ken Harrelson making the calls and he flat out sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yea CF, I heard it and was very disappointed. I was hoping to hear Kay's call of the triple, because at the time I was in the car listening to Sterling.
