As you know the rosters expand to 40 tomorrow, and today, Chad Jennings wrote this(hat-tip to River Ave. Blues) about potential September call-ups over on his excellent SWB Yanks blog. He sums up each position and then makes predicitions.
Guys like Shelley Duncan, Mark Melancon, Ramiro Pena, Jonathan Albaladejo, Francisco Cervelli, and Juan Miranda are likely on their way. Many of them will head to the Bronx once the Triple-A playoffs end. But there are many others who could be coming up that are very intriguing.
Jennings predicts that Austin Jackson could get called up after the Triple-A playoffs, and I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm excited to see him play in the majors. Another name he mentioned was Mike Dunn, who he believes could come up at the same time, and I'm very interested to see him pitch at this level. Kevin Russo, who has had a great season, could also be added "only if they find a way to immediately open a 40-man spot for him." He also thinks Anthony Claggett, Josh Towers, and Edwar Ramirez have a chance.
What about you? Who do you think gets added to the roster?
For me, this is who I think will get called up:
ReplyDeleteC - Francisco Cervelli
1B - Juan Miranda
SS - Ramiro Pena
OF - Austin Jackson, Shelley Duncan, John Rodriguez
P - Mark Melancon, Edwar Ramirez, Anthony Clagget, Josh Towers, Jonothan Albaladejo, Mike Dunn
What do ya think?
Sounds about right YB.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if I'm thinking about this correctly or not, but if we bring up Austin Jackson doesnt that start his arbitration clock. If that is the case then I would rather wait till next year to bring him up. Gardner should be back soon so we really don't need another CF.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right about that, Scotty, but I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteEdwar Rameriez is garbage. Release him and put Kroenke on the 40 man. You dont want to lose Kroenke in the rule 5 draft.
ReplyDeleteAlso when do the triple a playoffs end?
Id like to see what Austin JAckson is made of as long as it doesnt affect his arbitration.

Jennings is a little off. You cant really call Gardner a september callup if he has been with the team all year long.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Austin Jackson. I bet he will have 20 strikeouts in 30 at bats when he gets called up.
ReplyDeleteThey season ends on September 8th so I think the playoffs will start two or three days later and last for a week and a half. So mid-Sept.
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDeleteTechnically you're right, but since he will start playing in some minor league games, when he's activated he will get called up in September, hence, a September call-up.
I forgot, what if the Yanks want to carry Shelley Duncan or Ramiro Pena on their playoff roster? Are they allowed to get on the roster or did the cutoff date pass already?
ReplyDeleteDuncan cannot be on the postseason roster, Pena I'm not sure about because he was with the team prior to the cutoff, but was then sent down.
ReplyDeleteWait, but wasn't Shane Spencer a September call-up in '98? He was on the playoff roster.
ReplyDeleteThen again I could be wrong.
I think any player who played on the team by august 31 is eligible for the playoffs. Meaning Melancon, Pena & Cervelli would all be eligible even though they wont be on the playoff rosters.
ReplyDeleteThe playoff roster will be the team right now and you replace either Mitre or Gaudin with Gardner.
Anon, I think you're right.
ReplyDeleteYB, Spencer played in 13 games prior to Sept. in '98.
Oh. He had a helluva season.
ReplyDeleteYea he did.
ReplyDeleteAccording to PeteAbe, Girardi said "'more than two pitchers' will get called up tomorrow 'and a couple' of position players."
