Off Day Open Thread

Use this to discuss anything you'd like; the White Sox vs. Red Sox game going on in Fenway, anything Yankee related, pretty much anything you'd like.

Also, Slade Heathcott made his pro debut today for the GCL Yankees, he went 1-for-3, with a single.

  1. Boston is already losing 4-1. Anyone think the White Sox may win the wild card? That would scare me.

  2. Well, they're 7.5 out so they'd have to do some serious damage in Boston this week. They basically need to sweep.

As long as Boston misses the playoffs I will be happy.

  3. Hey Greg they're showing game 3 of the 1999 World Series on YES right now.

    ReplyDelete
  4. What's up, Sam. Thanks, turning it on now. I was actually at this game, so I've never seen it on TV. This game would be looked at as one of the better WS games of the run if the series wasn't basically over already.

God, I loved these teams. They just knew how to win a ballgame.

  5. Damn it Contreras is in trouble, and just committed an error allowing the Red Sox to cut the lead to 4-2. Now they have the bases loaded with two out and Bay up.

  6. Greg,

been a while. what a season! I am really loving this team. I know I am not going crazy but today, on yankees.com, they posted that the Yanks would open the season next year (2010) in Shanghai. Did anybody else see that? I went back tonight to read and its gone and unsearchable. Maybe somebody posted it too early without the proper news conference, etc. Have you seen anything about this?

    ReplyDelete
  7. And now he walks in a run.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hey Peter, yea it has been a while. Where've you been?

Yea, it's been a great season. Hopefully it only gets better.

I haven't seen anything about that, but I hope it's not the case. I hate those early season trips halfway around the world. Teams always seem to start a little slow after that.

  9. Yea, anon, I'm following on MLB gameday. And as I type he throws a wild pitch allowing the tying run to score. Geeez, he's having a terrible inning - error, walks in a run, then throws a wild pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  10. At least it's still tied.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think we pretty much have the East locked up. I don't want to say it's certain yet, because we know how quickly things can change.... But I'm feelin' good about it this late in August.

The race we need to really watch now is the race for home-field advantage with the Angels.

  12. Good to see that Heathcott gets his first hit on his first game.

    What's up Greg?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yup, hopefully Chicago can continue to hit the laptop thief.

I agree JC. It would take a Mets-like collapse at this point. As long as they stay healthy they should be fine.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm watching Tex on letterman tonight. Are you going to watch? I wonder what he'll do?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh, and what's up with Roy Halladay? He's been knocked around a bit over the last month or so... He's already given up six runs tonight in four innings.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh wait, it's not tied, what the hell happen on MLB? Strange. Anyway it's now 7-4 Boston.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yeah JC. I don't think Roy is healthy. I think he came back too early.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yea, I'm gonna watch that Liam. He's supposed to do some hitting thing. Not sure what exactly, though.

JC, Halladay has been terrrrible, I wonder if he had his hopes up about going to a contender and had a let down of sorts since he had to stay.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is good that he is stinking though. His trade value is going way down due to the way that he's pitching.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's definitely possible that he's pitching with something wrong, but considering how stupid that would be for him and his career, I hope it's not the case. The Jays are out of it, why risk it?

  21. My parents are watching CNN right now and someone is sueing blogger.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've been reading the blog, just not writing...so still a loyal follower...just too busy I guess. I will be at the game tomorrow. I bet I have been to 25 games this year which is an all-time record for me. Hoping to get to 30 total regular season games by the end of September and 8-10 post-season depending on how many we need to win it all!!!
Pretty certain they are heading to Shanghai...I agree, it messes things up early in the season for the team...

    ReplyDelete
  23. speaking of Doc H., how happy are Phillies fans that the price was too steep for Holliday and they ended up with Cliff Lee. He has been AWESOME!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good to hear you're still reading. Thanks. How you liking the new stadium?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Trash talk and she won the case. There talking about it now on CNN.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, interesting.... Peter, Riccardi screwed that whole thing up. He was asking for the moon, then Cleveland comes in and takes a decent offer, but far less for Lee. Left him looking like a fool.

    ReplyDelete
  27. MY BAD, Greg. Someone who has a blog is sueing google. My bad.

    ReplyDelete
  28. She wants 15 million for revealing her name.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I absolutely love it. My only complaint is the noise level isn't the same as it used to be in big situations. I am going to be very interested to see the crowd energy in the ALDS. Those are always the best crowds. The ALCS and World Series crowds can get a bit corporate, especially if its Yanks-Red Sox in the ALCS. But the ALDS against a team like Detroit will be for all real Yankees fans pumped for the play-offs.

  31. Well, Boston is now up 9-4 so that one is pretty much over.

    ReplyDelete
  32. BTW Greg, that "Hitler" guy came back today on YB site.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, and....

I'm going to the game on Wednesday. And believe it or not, it's my first regular-season game this year. I split a small season plan with a friend, but haven't been able to go to any yet! I went to the first exhibition game against the Cubs, but haven't been back since.

    Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  34. lol he stopped by here today too Liam.

Good for you JC, enjoy the game. Let me know what you think of the new place.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks! I still am yet to explore everything in the new place, so I want to get there early and maybe check out one of the restaurants/bars or something.

    ReplyDelete
  36. In the Sounds Like Pettitte Might Want To Come Back post.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thats what I did JC when I went. The game was 7:00 and we arived there at 2:00 and we looked around until it rained.

    ReplyDelete
  38. He said "Not Be jurk" and Andy sucks". lol.

    ReplyDelete
  39. They open the gates THAT early now??

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe I spoke too soon... Paul Konerko just hit a 3-run bomb to cut the Sox lead to 9-7 in the top of the 5th.

    ReplyDelete
  41. No they don't JC. They open about two hours early. My parents and I walked around the outside of the stadium then went to the Hard Rock Cafe. Then when the gates opened we went to monument park, yankee museum then we went to see if we can get a signed baseball but it started to rain.

    Don't go to NYY steak. It's $50 a steak.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh wow, you were at this game? That's awesome.

I was at the next game when they clinched and that was unreal.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Game 3 of the '99 World Series, it's on YES right now.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh that's right.

I'm gonna go for now. My sister needs to use the com.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah, definitely not going to NYY Steak. I'd rather blow that $50 on beer and a hot dog. ;)

I saw the museum when I went to the exhibition game, but they still needed to put more stuff in it... So I might check it out again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm with you on that JC... 4 beers and a dog out weigh one stake any day.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sad that $50 only buys you four beers and a hot dog, but tis life... lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. White Sox have a guy on with the heart of their order coming up...

    *crosses fingers*

    ReplyDelete
  49. Alright, 1st and 2nd with one out and Thome at the dish with Okajima coming into the game.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey guys . A little earlier I saw you were talking about the AL East and the postseason. And I agree, if they do stay healthy and don't pull a 2007 Mets on us, you can pretty much start spraying champange in the clubhouse by the 2nd week of September.

Plus, if indeed the Yanks do win the division, my uncle, who is also a die-hard Yanks fan, said he would take me to a playoff game - which would be my first. So I'm really excited.

The Yankees really have a chance to do something special this year, Yankee fans, start getting excited.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thome flies out to center... two on, two out, Konerko up, and Bard coming in.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The Yankees are still undefeated on "Yankee Classics"...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey YB, that's great. There's nothing like a October baseball in the Bronx.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hahahahaha, yes they are, Capone. Isn't that amazing?

    How are you doing tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  55. They did say the A-Rod walk-off against the Sox could have been a Yankee Classic even if they lost, and I didn't like the thought of that. You need to see a Yankee Classic end with a mob at homeplate or Mariano Rivera picking up a save, not Red Sox celebrating a win.

    That's just not right.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Heard you were at Game 3 of the '99 Series, been to any others?

    ReplyDelete
  57. World Series games? Yea. Game's 1 and 2 in 1998, games 4 and 5 in '99, and games 2, 4 and 5 in 2000. I had tickets to game 7 in 2003, but Josh Beckett stopped that from happening - one of the main reasons I hate the guy. I also had tickets to a game 7 in '96, but we all now how that one ended.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Damn you, Carlos Quentin!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I gotta go. I'm starting a baseball training thing. I need to start getting ready for my season with my high-school fall-league team, so I've started workout things at night and batting practice sessions during the afternoon. I do this every year, and I'm so pumped to start playing baseball again.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Doin good Greg. yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  61. One of my aims over the next few years is to get over there for a game or two at Yankee Stadium

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm doing good Capone. Gonna try to get to a game this week.

Yea, Roger, you gotta try and do that. It's really a great experience.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Whewwwwwww...

30 minutes of running can take a lot out of you.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Alright I'm going to bed. Off days suck.

    Later
