Me? I'm done with that kind of stuff. In 2006 I wanted to play the Tigers because the Yankees played so well against them during the regular season, and the same went for the Indians in 2007. Well, you know how those two series worked out, so from now on I'm just going to sit back and wait. But that won't stop me from asking you who'd you rather face. I agree Greg. The Yanks have to beat whoever comes their way. I have no rooting interest other than the Yankees winning.
ReplyDeleteA little off topic but I really hope that KC wins tonight so that the yanks win 2 out of 3, they can clinch against the sox. Not that they can't sweep but two out of three has a much better chance.

ReplyDeleteI think there's very little to choose between the Yanks, Red Sox and Angels. These three clubs may have slightly different strengths and weaknesses. The Sox and Angels have more depth to their starting rotations but the Yankees have a more reliable bullpen and closer. But the one thing all three teams have in common is they can hit from one to nine. The big advantage of winning the division is you only have to beat one of them, rather than two. I don't want to underestimate the strength of the Tigers - they have good starting pitching - but they don't carry the same threat with the bat and their pen in suspect. The only "advantage" they will have against the Yanks is the fact that first round of the playoffs is best-of-five rather best-of-seven.

ReplyDeleteI hope that the Tigers and Twins have to play hard all the way to the end and wear themselves out before the playoffs even start. Hopefully even a playoff game between the two.

Like every October it will come down to the team who gets hot at the right time. Maybe I should say the team who's starting pitching gets hot at the right time.

ReplyDeleteJoe, thought your ratings were a little Yankee-biased when I first read them but on the second read, I can't argue with too many. Think the key stat may be managing and the fact that Girardi is so inexperienced may count against him. Many of these October games come down to the final few innings and few turn into blowouts. Girardi has two aces in Mo and Hughes, but how will he shuffle the rest of the pack?
