A-Rod May Not Need Another Surgery

You probably heard this mentioned during last night's broadcast, but Alex Rodriguez is now saying that there is an 80% chance that he will not need a second surgery on his hip.

Here's more from Ed Eagle of MLB.com:
Alex Rodriguez's recovery from a March right hip surgery has progressed so well that the doctor who performed the procedure is hopeful that the Yankees slugger won't need another surgery after the season.

"I don't want to jinx us, but there is a very good chance we can use conservative treatment," Dr. Marc Philippon told the New York Post. "We will take our time and look at all the variables, but I am very optimistic and happy."

...

"I'm extremely pleased," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Rodriguez's production. "If he has a big month, he can drive in 100 runs and miss five weeks of the season. That's pretty good. We're extremely pleased with what we've got. The way he's played has been great."

Rodriguez, who has benefited from regularly scheduled days off this season, told The Post on Monday that it was "80 percent no; 20 percent yes" that he'd need offseason surgery.

As long as there isn't a chance the injury can come back, this is very good news for A-Rod and the Yankees. He can now have a normal offseason, and won't have to worry about the recovery time that comes with any major surgery. This turn of events should only make his 2010 season a better one.

  1. This could be the first offseason where there is no ARod controversy

  2. I wouldn't bet the farm on that. LOL

But I do hope you are right.

  3. So does that mean he is 100% now? I know he missed 5 weeks, but I was kinda banking on him being a lot better next season because the surgery would make him 100%.

  4. Since June 24th he's hitting .310/.426/.545, so I think he's just about 100%.
