ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE:
Ian Kennedy--RHP: Kennedy made 2 starts this week in the AFL. He struggled Monday as he took the loss (1-1) after giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits (2 doubles) in 3.1 innings. He had 4 K's--no walks and threw 66 pitches-44 strikes. Kennedy bounced back with a good 3rd start Saturday night in a 4-3 win. He went 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 hits (singles), 5 K--1 walk. AFL totals: 3 Gms, 1-1, 3.97 ERA, 11.1 IP, 5 ER, 10 hits, 13 K--1 walk, BAA .227.
Zach Kroenke--LHRP: Kroenke had 2 appearances this week in relief, throwing 1 scoreless inning Monday and Saturday. He did not allow a hit in either game. AFL totals: 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 hits, 2 strikeouts--1 walk. In 09 Kroenke had an impressive season at AAA SWB going 7-1 with a 1.99 ERA out of the bullpen.
Mike Dunn--RHRP: Dunn appeared in 2 games this week tossing a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts Thursday. Saturday he took the loss (0-1) giving up 1 run , 1 hit, (solo homer in the 10th) . 2 K's--0 BB. AFL totals : 4 Gms. 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 hits, 6 K--3 walks, .214 BAA. Dunn split time between AA Trenton and SWB going 4-3 with a 3.31 era. He had 99 strikeouts in 73 innings.
Grant Duff--LHRP, Duff pitched in 2 games, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings this week not allowing a hit, 1 K--2 walks. AFL totals: 4 Gms. 4.1 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 1 K--3 walks. He was 4-3 between Tampa and AA Trenton in 09 with a 3.22 ERA at AA Trenton.
Austin Romine--C: Romine played in only 1 game going 0-2. He hasn't played since Monday. He is 6-15 with 2 rbi overall. Romine hit .276 with 13 homers, 72 rbi in 118 games for A Tampa in 09.
Brandon Laird--INF: Laird's had a great first week (.625) and was named Player of the Week. He started this week off slowly, but had a big game Friday going 3-5, with a 2-run homer and 5 rbi. For the week he was 5-21 with a homer and 7 rbi. AFL totals: .405 (15-37), 14 rbi, 3 HR, 10 runs. He hit .266 with 13 HR, 75 rbi at A Tampa in 09.
Colin Curtis--OF: Colin had a great week with two 3-hit games, going 8-17 with a homer, 7 runs, and 4 rbi for the week. AFL totals: .389 (11-36), 8 rbi, 2 HR, 11 runs. Curtis split time in 09 between AA Trenton and AAA SWB. At SWB he hit only .235 with 6 homers, 29 rbi in 70 games.
VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE:
Jesus Montero--C-- Maganelles--Montero is off to a slow start at the plate hitting .136 (3-22), with no extra base hits as a DH. In 09 he split time between A and AA hitting .356 at A Tampa, .317 at AA Trenton. In 92 games he had 70 rbi, 17 homers, 25 doubles before going on the DL with a finger injury.
Pat Venditte--Switch pitcher--Zulia: He made 3 appearances in relief this week, getting hit hard in the first game 1.1 IP, 2 ER, 5 hits, 1 walk, but bouncing back the next 2 games going .2 IP in each game, 0 hits, 0 runs. VWL totals: 4 Gms, 4.2 Ip, 2 ER, 6 hits (1 HR) , 3 K--1 BB. Venditte split time between Charleston and Tampa in 09 going 4-2 with a 1.87 ERA. 67.1 IP, 14 ER, 61 hits, 87 K's--11 walks.
Romulo Sanchez--RHP--Lara--Sanchez made 4 relief appearances this week and has struggled so far. In only 2.0 IP he gave up 6 ER, 7 hits and took the loss Saturday (0-1). Sanchez finished the 09 season at AAA SWB in the rotation and had 2 very good games for them in the playoffs. 09 totals 64.2 IP, 66 hits, 29 runs
Reegie Corona--INF--Maganelles--Corona's been used mostly as a pinch hitter-pinch runner, hitting .333 (7-21) so far. In 5 games this week he was 2-4, scoring 3 runs. In 09 he split time between Trenton (.287) and SWB (.200) in 09 he scored 69 runs, 14 rbi, .347 OBP.
Luis Nunez--INF--Zulia---Nunez was 2-9 for the week. Overall he's hitting .258 (8-31) , 6 rbi, double. He spent most of 09 at A Tampa hitting .304, 23 rbi, 23 runs, .362 OBP. He was also a part-time bench player at SWB seeing some action in 25 games, BA .214.
Josh Schmidt--RHP-- Zulia-- He was outstanding in his first 2 starts throwing 11 scoreless innings. Not so lucky in his 3rd start this week. He lasted only 2.2 innings, 2 earned runs, 5 hits, 5 K--3 walks. Schmidt had a very good year in 09 at Trernton 8-4, 1.61 ERA. with 96 strikeouts-38 walks in 83.2 innings.
Edwar Gonzalez--OF--Lara--Gonzalez had a good week going 4-9 with a triple, 2 runs and rbi. Overall he's hitting .250 (7-28), 2 rbi. In 09 at AA Trenton, he hit .232 with 46 runs, 37 rbi, 26 doubles, 4 homers.
Marcos Veccionacchi--INF--Maganelles--Marcos went 3-7 for the week with 2 runs and a rbi in 3 games. He's 4-9 overall with a double. In 09 he hit just .213 at AA Trenton with 43 rbi, 44 runs scored.
MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUES:
Walter Ibarra--INF--Hermosillo--Ibarra's being used as a pinch hitter and has been doing very well. This week he went 3-3. He's 5-8 so far in in that role. At A-Tampa in 09, Ibarra hit .265, 38 runs, 16 rbi.
DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE:
Ivan Nova---RHP---Escogido: Nova joined Escogido this week. His 1st game he threw 2 perfect innings in relief, with 3 K's. He started Friday going 4 shutout innings, 6 hits, 2 K--1 walk. Nova's a kid to watch out for. In 09 at AAA SWB the 22 year old finished strong with 2 very good games in the playoffs.
Humberto Sanchez---RHP--Obregon: Sanchez just started play this week. In his only game he went 1 inning, 1 run, 2 hits. Bouncing back from injuries in 09 at 3 different minor league levels, he went 4-1, 3.53 ERA in 35.2 innings, 14 ER, 22 hits, 36 K--16 walks. BAA .175.
Wilkins Arias--Aguilas--RHP: Sunday Arias had a rough game in relief giving up 4 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks and retiring only 1 batter. He bounced back Tuesday going 2.1 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit.
In 09 at AA Trenton Arias went 5-4 with a 3.65 ERA. 61.2 IP, 53 hits, 25 runs, 66 K--22 walks.
Jonathan Ortiz--RHP--Licey: Ortiz has made 3 relief appearnces so far. 1.1 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit. He made 48 relief appearances in 09 at class A between Charleston and Tampa. .291 ERA. 55.2 IP, 22 runs, 56 hits, 76 strikeouts--10 walks.
Jose Valdez--RHP--Licey: Valdez has made 4 relief apperanaces so far. 5.1 IP, 1 run, 5 K--0 walks. He played mostly at AA Trenton in 09 (34 games), with 9 at SWB. His overall 09 numbers; 43 Gms, 57.2 IP, 22 ER, 55 hits, 60 K--33 walks.
