Peter Botte of the Daily News has a few quotes from Scott Boras:
"Not that I've been thinking about this, but players who can get on the field every day and score 100 runs, how many guys do that?" Boras said. "Johnny just plays, and he's got the body type that allows him to do that. You can check out the full article here.
"If stem-cell research were around, you'd want to tap into that gene pool," Boras added. "He's (35), but has a 30-year-old's body. He plays much younger."
Boras then went on to say,
"Look at how many times Rickey Henderson scored 100 runs after he turned 35," Boras said.
Look I love what Johnny Damon's done here in NY and I admire what he did with the Athletics and Red Sox. But Boras needs to know when to be quite. It's not as bad as when he and Arod announced they would be enforcing the opt out clause mid-world series but its still not appropriate to start shedding light on this situation while the team is fighting in the ALCS. Boras also bit off more then he can chew in my eyes, Damon does not have the body of a 30 year old and he can barely play LF. He's made LF look like an adventure-land the last 2 years and everybody seems to notice it. And I don't think you can compare Damon to Henderson, Henderson created a lot of the run-scoring opportunities and Johnny has not over recent years. I know Johnny's kept his production up but Boras and he have to expect to bargain if he wants to stay with the Yanks. That means, less money, less time in left-field and more time at DH.
What do you guys think? Resign Johnny? Maybe go with Matsui?
