Verducci's Top 10 Teams of All Time

Tom Verducci recently came out with his list of the top 10 team of all time, here's how it looked:

1. 1927 New York Yankees
2. 1939 New York Yankees
3. 1998 New York Yankees
4. 1929 Philadelphia Athletics
5. 1975 Cincinnati Reds
6. 1961 New York Yankees
7. 1970 Baltimore Orioles
8. 1907 Chicago Cubs
9. 1932 New York Yankees
10. 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates

In the slide show on SI, Verducci had this to say about the '39 team:

Joe DiMaggio hit .381 for a team that outscored its opponents by -- get this -- 411 runs.

To show you how ridiculous that is, the 1927 Yankees outscored its opponents by 371 runs. The amazing thing is that the '39 team did it with Lou Gehrig only playing 6 games. He was supposed to be that team's starting first baseman, but as we all know ALS forced him out of the game. Babe Dahlgren was the guy who played first in place of The Iron Horse, and in 144 games hit .235/.312/.377 with 15 HR and 89 RBI. Could you imagine if a that team had a healthy Lou Gehrig?
