When Chien-Ming Wang suffered his foot injury last month, the Yankees held out hope he could return in September. That's looking nearly impossible.I, and I'm sure many other Yankees fans, still had a little hope Wang could return this season. It's a shame he probably won't. They really could use him right now, especially when they have both Ponson and Rasner in the rotation.
Wang, who sprained the Lisfranc ligament and partially tore a tendon in his right foot while running the bases on June 15, had his cast removed Tuesday. But he still expects to be on crutches for a week, when he will be reevaluated. If all is well, he could begin rehab but won't be able to start throwing until he finishes rehabbing the foot. It should take 5-6 weeks to get him into game form, which puts his projected return up against the end of the season.
Shit! This would be a kick in balls to all Yankee fans if he cant come back. This guy eats up innings and wins games. I know he had a bad postseason last year, but I had/have a feeling he would dominate this October. Hopefully Hughes can step up and be the guy to fill his shoes. If he does, we will still have a good shot this year.
ReplyDeletePersonally I never thought you would see him again this year and if he did come back I wouldn't expect him to be 100%.
ReplyDeleteDespite the last 3 games there is no reason to believe that this division and/or WC wouldn't come down to the wire. The Yanks are going to be in it until the end so we need to figure out what to do with the rotation without Wang. Hughes? Maybe but I wouldn't bet the farm on that. Same goes for IPK. That's what makes this game of chicken with Seattle so interesting.
