(AAA) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (14-2) beat Rochester 7-3: Box Score - Recap
The SWB Yanks defeated Rochester (Twins) 7-3 to raise their record to 15-2 on the year. The win gives SWB an 11-1 road record. Ian Kennedy left the game in the 5th inning with a blister on his finger.
PITCHING: Ian Kennedy got the start for the Yanks. He gave up only 1 unearned run, but had a at least 1 runner in scoring position in every inning. Kennedy worked out of a jam in the 1st inning, giving up a single and double. He was helped out of the jam by a caught stealing and strikeout. In the 2nd, he gave up an unearned run on 2 singles and an error to tie the score at 1. Kennedy worked out of another jam in the 3rd, stranding a runner at 3rd after a single and stolen base. He threw a scoreless 4th inning, again stranding a runner at 2nd after a leadoff single and sac bunt. In the 5th, Kennedy was in trouble again after a double and walk, but left the game with an injury. Kennedy left with a 3-1 lead. Kennedy's line: 4.2 IP, 1 run (unearned), 7 hits, 4 K, 2 walks, 81 pitches--50 strikes, 6 groundouts--3 flyouts.
BULLPEN: Zach Kroenke relieved Kennedy in the 5th with 2 out and runners on 1st and 2nd. Kroenke got a strikeout to end the 5th. He threw perfect 6th & 7th innings, picking up 2 more strikeouts. Kroenke with an excellent job, retired all 7 men he faced. He picked up the win (2-0).
Anthony Claggett came on to pitch a scoreless 8th inning. Claggett gave up 2 runs in the 9th. He loaded the bases with 3 singles to start the inning. A 2-run single made the final score 7-3.
OFFENSE: Former Yankee farmhand Jason Jones was the starting pitcher for Rochester and took the loss (0-2). SWB broke out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. Austin Jackson reached on an error. Eric Duncan walked. Jackson scored on a swinging bunt by Luis Nunez. The Yanks took a 3-1 lead in the 3rd on Shelley Duncan's 2-run homer (6) after Todd Linden walked. The Yanks made it 6-1 in the 8th when S. Duncan singled and Juan Miranda hit a 2-run homer (5). A. Jackson doubled, stole 3rd (5), and scored on Chris Stewart's RBI groundout. John Rodriguez finished the scoring in the 9th with a solo homer (3) to make the final 7-3.
NOTES: Todd Linden extended his hit streak to 12 games. John Rodriguez up his hit streak to 11 games. Shelley Duncan leads the IL in rbi with 22. Juan Miranda is 2nd with 21 RBI. Eric Hacker up from Trenton, gets the start Tuesday in place of Phil Hughes.
