News & Notes

- As you can see, Johnny Damon is back in the lineup after missing one game with an array of sore body parts.

- CC Sabthia is 13-9, with a 4.70 ERA in 26 career starts against the Tigers. And in Detroit he's 7-2, with a 3.80 ERA in 11 starts. Last year he only faced the Tigers once and got hammered. In four innings he allowed nine runs on eight hits, walked five and struck out just one. He also gave up two homers in the game.

- Justin Verlander has made four career starts against the Yankees and he's 2-1, with a 6.63 ERA. He faced the Yankees once last year, and like Sabathia he took a beating. In 1.2 innings pitched he allowed eight runs (five earned) on seven hits, walked two, and struck out two.

- According to ESPN, Alex Rodriguez may take live batting practice tomorrow. Also in the article it states that Chien-Ming Wang threw in the outfield for ten minutes today and also did some sprints.

"He's doing great," Yankees vice president Billy Connors said. "There is no discomfort. We did some drills that will help bring his velocity back to where it's got to be."

Great, Billy Connors is on the case... Whoopty-freaking-doo.

- A year ago today, Chien-Ming Wang beat CC Sabathia 1-0 at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Now CC is a Yankee, and Wang is horrible (for now). What a difference a year makes.

- Here's a Yankees-Red Sox stat you may all want to take note of. It comes to us from CoreyMac, who is a member over at Baseball-Fever.com.
Since 2004....

Yanks record versus Red Sox in April and May:
13-24 (.351)
2004: 1-6
2005: 4-5
2006: 3-4
2007: 3-6
2008: 2-3

Yanks record versus Red Sox from June through Sept:
35-22 (.614)
2004: 7-6
2005: 6-4
2006: 8-4
2007: 7-2
2008: 7-6
Just something to think about if this weekend's sweep still bothers you.

UPDATE 7:16 p.m.: Here's some more info on Chien-Ming Wang and Alex Rodriguez from Peter Abraham:
- Chien-Ming Wang will throw a side tomorrow and then they’ll figure out what comes next for him.

- A-Rod ran the bases for the third time in five days in Florida, and also added situational drills when taking grounders at third. He hit 13 homers on 89 swings in regular batting practice.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

  2. Just switching things up a little.

You like it or no? I like it better than the newer logo.

  6. STRIKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

    Miller,

What do you think of the retro Yanks logo?

    ReplyDelete
  7. nice throw by johnny there, we really had some gas behind that one..... =(

    ReplyDelete
  8. Logo reminds me of when they were on MSG...lol

    ReplyDelete
  9. Great, this fat bastard has nothing yet again.

    ReplyDelete
  10. lol he really has no arm, plus his left shoulder hurts so it's even worse, if that's possible.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I see your anonymous for a good reason....Actually they took an extra base on Damons water-gun arm plus a bobble and jeter has no range up the middle, nobody really got good wood on the ball of CC, relax.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You have a good point, Miller.

That guy come on here every game and goes on and on about how bad the Yankees are.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Great defense you have Cashman. A Lfer with no arm and a SS with no range. BRILLIANT!! Make sure you extend Jeter before this game is thru...Who would want to come play here? Terrible defense, terrible catcher, retarded manager, braindead GM and no outfielders.

    ReplyDelete
  14. responding to you would be an insult to myself.

    ReplyDelete
  15. First of all, that's me that complains how bad the Yankees are and I didn't post the first one. And, as usual Greg is accusing people of doing something when I am not. Typical pathetic little whiny democrat liberal. If you dont know my style by now then you are an idiot.

That run was ALL Cashman's doing. No OFers (I always complain about that) and no range from the has-been Jeter.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Get rid of Damon, Jeter, Matsui, Posada and Mo. Then we will see improvement because they are killing this team.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If you don't want to be accused stop posting as anonymous, or at least put a sig at the bottom of each of your comments so I can tell who's who.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anon,
go renew your NY Liberty Season Ticket Subscription before time runs out, you're wasting your time caring about baseball. you know nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I bet you he's Hitler, just trying to stay undercover for now.

    ReplyDelete
  19. A sig, what would that accomplish? So someone could copy it and post as me? My style is particular. I dont call CC a fat bastard... That run was due to Damon and Jeter as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  20. No, so everyone else can tell when it's you. Nobody is going to copy you. Why would anyone do that?

    ....

    Yankeeboy you might be right.

    ....

CC, be careful. Stop throwing your hand in front of grounders up the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sorry for accusing you Anon, but there was a guy on here who was even worse than you who called himself Hitler.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Whoa. Worse than you, that's brutal.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That doubleplay was big... And turned very nicely by Pena and Cano.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That was two feet outside.

    - Not the douchebag

    ReplyDelete
  25. Worse than me? I doubt that =)

And, typical Jeter GIDP, even though the 2nd baseman booted it, and no range at SS, what a killer combination! No wonder teams loving playing the Yankees. They have no one. Their lineup stinks, thanks to Cashman.

If I do use a sig it will be something IHATEBRIANCASHMAN.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ya know, I'll admit, their lineup is pretty bad right now. But when Teix gets hot, A-Rod returns, and we get the lineup we imagined during the offseason, it'll be the best lnieup in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Looks like we may have something going...come on Swish!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Swisher needs to be moved down in the order.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You're too positive about this lineup. I have seen nothing in years to be up beat about and they are all older, slower and worse. Cashman has done such a poor job it is unimaginable. I know ad nauseum..

    ReplyDelete
  30. You never take a break from bashing this team, do you?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Interesting...

Meanwhile, Verlander looks almost unhittable. Why did he have to find himself against us?

    ReplyDelete
  32. That seams to be a hard slump for Swish. As they say : "you always live up to the back of your baseball card". And Swisher's say he usually hits .230.

Anyway, I cannot believe someone else (maybe the same Anon, who knows) said the Yankees had to get rid of Mo!

What exactly leads you to this conclusion? The only closer in the same sentence as Mo is Papelbon. And guess what! The BoSox aren't shopping him!

    Go Bombers.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Whoa, Swisher. I didn't know he had that in him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. actually hitler was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So I see at least the starting pitching isn't sucking tonight. After aj blew the 6-0 lead I couldn't watch any more yankee baseball the rest of the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey guys! What a shitty fucking weekend. It's okay though, they'll fight back. CC's looking nasty tonight, too bad Verlander is looking even better

    ReplyDelete
  37. This is acutually a pretty good game. We haven't seen a good pitchers dule yet this year, and I think we're watching one right now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey Larry. Yea, it was really bad. Hopefully they can find a way to score a few runs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. And CC totally implodes. What a fucking waste of money on this fat bastard.

    ReplyDelete
  40. All pitchers find themselves against the Yankees. And, that's because there is simply nothing to be afraid of....I have repeated this over and over and over. These pitchers can just let it fly....

Another run caused by Cashman's great OF. Mediocre OFers and mediocre SS's make these semi-routine plays and keep runners from scoring. But, not with Cashman's prowess of building a team.

I wonder what Cashman is doing right now.....gambling, drinking or smoking like all good Catholics.

    ReplyDelete
  41. More clutch hitting from ANYONE that plays the Yanks and no clutch hitting by the Yanks. Ahhhhhh I love the Cashman years. These are the days of our lives...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Some ace. This team fucking sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow, what a play on both ends, too bad he was safe. Finally the umps gives the Yankees a call and it's in a game that's basically over.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Much more of this will be the end of girardi. There is going to have to be a massive coaching staff shake up. This team has weak points but on paper its a lot better than what we're seeing - for example teixeira not hitting and the bullpen usage and nobody notice wang wasn't ready to leave tampa.

Unless the yankees get it together I'm ready to put money on girardi being gone my june 1. They may give him 2 weeks with arod - but arods not going to be able to turnthis around himself.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Greg, now are you starting to see that my complaints about Joe and his staff? When are the Yankees going to pull the plug on this coaching internship and hire a staff with some kind of resume?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Danny,

What concerns are you specifically talking about?

Anyway, I'm very disappointed in this team and coaching staff so far. But then again I think we all are.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mark "Pop Up" Texeira. He is fitting in perfectly. I guess this is what happens when no one can hit with RISP, after awhile, everyone starts trying to be the savior with a HR. Congrats Mark you have been converted!

    ReplyDelete
  48. And, again Greg, I didn't write that commment. You're not very discernable are you? Then again, that's what happens when you're raised on the news media. I feel sorry for you.

    - The Douche

    ReplyDelete
  49. So there are two anonymous cowards who hate the Yankees and are using this blog as a place to express that hatred. Fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think it is a failure of girardi and the hitting and pitching coaches that tex and sabathia are subpar. Someone needs to calm tex down, and someone needs to work with sabathia closely to stop the mid-game unravellings. We should be seeing more coach visits to the mound when cc starts to come unglued.

Unfortunately Girardi's handling of the pen (which is pretty sucky to start) isn't really anything that anyone but girardi can change. And ultimately I think girardi is doomed because he seems to be such a retard at managing the pitchers.

    ReplyDelete
  51. protip - dont feed the trolls

    ReplyDelete
  52. Will,

Both Sabathia and Teixeira have been terrible in April throughout their careers. I don't necessarily understand it or accept it as an excuse but it is what it is. They've been this way their whole careers and we knew that when the Yanks signed them.

As far as Girardi, I think he's been terrible overall this year.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey guys! Haven't seen you in a while. What's going on, besides the Yankees losing?

    ReplyDelete
  54. First, why should Girardi be fired and not Cashman? Girardi is simply working with the garbage players and team that Cashman built. The Yankees have the worst OF in the entire league. They have no defense and no SS.

Second, CC did NOT pitch bad tonight. If he has any kind of defense he might give up 2 runs over 8IP. But, Jeter and Damon are both good for giving up a couple every game.

Third, $200m payroll and no bench. How is that possible?

If Girardi goes (and he should) then so should Cashman.

    - The Douche

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh no, Hitler's back.

And the Yankees have the tying run at the plate.

    ReplyDelete
  56. They'll choke again asshole, just like they did in the 8th.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Here's my gripes Greg,

The fact that Joe himself is clueless at situational managing and really does not have the experience to be managing a top AL team whether it be the Yankees, Angels, or Red Sox. He should of been learning on the job with a team like the Royals. His coaching staff choices read off like an internship in major league coaching. At least Torre was smart enough to surround himself with coaches that may not have been great managers in their own right but were sharper baseball minds than he was, and he listened to them.

The pitching coach should not be allowed within 1000 ft of major league pitching. I don't care what progress he may have made with the young arms. I have seen non of it translate on the major league level proving his inability to coach major league pitcher or understand the major league game.

The third base coach should just be called" Designated Fan". He gets paid to watch the game from the best spot in the house while doing nothing.

I exempt the first base coach because obviously they went, dug up, and reanimated Casey Stengel, but don't quite trust zombies to actively manage. I will not speak ill of the deceased.

Tony Pena, A plus! He's the only good egg.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Damn it Posada you slow bastard.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Alright Greg! Using your big-boy words!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I know this is after the fact but why didn't Girardi have Molina bunt and then pinch hit Posada for Pena? Was that too creative for him?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Yankees loose! Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Yankees loose!

Guess I came too late. Good by for now, bitches.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yea I can't argue with much of that. The managing has been awful all year.

Kevin Long and Dave Eiland have also done nothing to show me they belong here.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm a disgruntled Yankee fan not a douche.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Posada should be designated for assignment for not hustling. He wasn't trying or busting it at all.

This losing streak was all started, and completed by the new Yankee killers. Their names: Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Damon, Matsui and Posada.

Cashman sure is good at getting a whole team full of DH/1B!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Oops forgot to sign my name ^^

    - The Douche

    ReplyDelete
  66. And Anon, that's not a bad idea at all, especially when you consider Posada's speed.

Maybe Girardi didn't want to play for a tie, but I hate that excuse. I'd rather be tied and go to extras than lose.

    ReplyDelete
  67. As I said last night Greg, Eiland was 12-27 in his career with a 5.47era

and Kevin Long only played 7 seasons, and had a lifetime average of .312-.314 I believe.

I dont think either belong here, overhaul the coaching staff, bring back Gator and bring in O'neil as the hitting coach, we need emotion in the dugout.

    -Eric Cartman

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oh boy, it's getting worse. I saw the score after spending the day in the recording studio.

I will agree that the Yankee coaching staff looks like droll amateurs. I'm sure they're there only because Girardi wanted to bring in his own coaches. Well, shit, I could do a better job, and I'm not BSing you.

We need to make a change fast, because as I said last night Girardi looks like a lost little boy. Someone else needs to go, too, but I promised I'd hold my tongue for now.

Our team is fast losing confidence. I'm going to try prayer....

    Mike

PS In reaction to an earlier post in this thread: is Cashman Catholic? Just wundrin'!
