- According to Pete Abe, Alex Rodriguez will play in a minor-league intra-squad game tomorrow. This is good news for the Yanks and it would seem that A-Rod is in line to return sometime in the next ten days.

Here's more on A-Rod from the AP via the NY Post:
Alex Rodriguez could rejoin the Yankees within 10 days, according to the doctor who operated on his hip March 9.

Dr. Marc Philippon watched the three-time AL MVP's on-field workout Wednesday at the Yankees' minor league complex and said Rodriguez could return to the majors ahead of his May 15 target date.

"He's looking good. Looking awesome," Philippon said.

Rodriguez hit in a simulated game for the second consecutive day, facing minor leaguer pitchers Christian Garcia and Kai Liu, a left-hander from China the Yankees signed two years ago.

Rodriguez slid five times on a sliding mat for the second time, ran the bases, and took 112 swings in regular batting practice.

Philippon said after watching Wednesday's session that "it's crystal clear" that Rodriguez will be strong when he returns to the Yankees.

- If you didn't see it below, Ian Kennedy has a vasospasm and it can be treated with medication. Apparently it's not a big deal.

- For all of you who are behind the Save Gate Two project, there's some good and bad news. The good news is that Bryan Hoch mentioned it today on his blog.

The bad news is that Peter Abraham wouldn't. I emailed him asking if he would. Here's the email I sent him and his response:
Hey Peter,

It's Greg from Sliding Into Home, and I wanted to email you about an idea that was started by fans over at Baseball-Fever.com to save Yankee Stadium's gate 2. Bryan Hoch posted something about it today, and being that you have the biggest Yankees blog out there I think it would be great if you could do the same. Here's the website so you can take a look yourself. I think it's a great idea.

Any kind of mention you could make about it on your site would be great.

Thanks a lot

Greg
And his response:
What if i don't think it's a great idea? I'm not so sure that structure can stand up on its own.

Thanks for reading,

Pete Abraham
I understand what he's saying. However, I think that if the people behind the project got together with a group of people with a bit of a construction background, whatever structural concerns could be worked out. Either way, it looks like a win one, lose one sort of day for the Save Gate 2 project.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section

  2. lol... I'm not trying to start any wars with Peter. He has a great blog, and does a ton to inform us fans. I just wanted to share what happened today when I shared the Save Gate 2 project with him.

  3. Pete Abraham is a douchebag though. The best is when people make comments about how Bruce Springsteen really isn't that good (which he isn't) and Abraham cries about it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. lol

I actually like Bruce, but I know what you mean.

Like I said, I have no intention of starting some stupid war. Peter seems to be cool, and his blog is awesome.

  5. I don't follow his blog. I've read it a few times, and was immediatly doing my own stat checking after and found errors. After then I never really followed. Then I seen a few sites doing the same, reading his crap, then finding half truths and inaccurate statements and just decided that i would not read his crap again because it seemed like he was abusing his platform.

  6. So Peter Abraham is an architect all of the sudden?

I guess at his size he understands the importance of load-bearing walls, but who is he to comment on the viability of a hypothetical project based on renderings?

You won't say it, but I will, he's a dope.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Pete Abraham is an architect? moron.

  8. Good journalism would allow one to publish the story without taking a point of view on it. Duuuuuuuuhhhhhhh!

    ReplyDelete
  9. In defense of Peter and sports writers in general, people who cover politics don't even stand by that archaic law of journalism. To expect people who cover a sport, and child's game, to abide by it is a bit unfair.

Bias is what makes modern journalism.

  10. What the fuck?

How the hell does he even know how they plan on building the memorial?

Does he actually think they're just going to leave a 1000 ft piece of concrete sticking in the ground without any kind of support?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Greg, that's a really weak argument. But I'll bite anyway. Fine, Abraham could have reported it and pointed out whatever flaws he things there are in the idea. Not reporting an interesting developing story that his audience would like want to read about is just total crap journalism. I stand by my original assessment of him - moron.

(just in case Abraham fans unleash their proof reading police on me)

  13. Will, you missed my point a bit. I'm not defending anyone. I'm just saying that the good journalism you speak of pretty much no longer exists. It's a sad reality we all have to deal with.

    ReplyDelete
  14. OK, let me correct myself. I'm defending Peter and sports writers, because to hold them to a higher standard that the news media is slightly unfair.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hold everyone to the same low standard. Don't be stupid, it's all i ask.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Melky is the lineup again, I hope they are showcasing and trade him for a good bullpen arm.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Will,

    I know what you mean.

    Anon,

The Yankees have apparently given up on Brett Gardner. And after just 186 major league at-bats. Pretty sad if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh, I think we should hold news media to an even lower standard actually - our real problem is that people believe whatever their favorite news paper or opinion columnest or tv reporter says and never go and do their own homework. They believe the news is really the news and that its generally done diligently, which is just so far from reality. Almost all news is just blathering entertainment. You'd like the book "Amused to Death".

    ReplyDelete
  19. Will, I don't disagree with you at all.

I'll check out that book. Who is the author?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry, "Amusing Ourselves to Death"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amusing_Ourselves_to_Death

"Amused to Death" was the Roger Waters (formerly of Pink Floyd) album which drew on some of the themes in the book.

  21. PeteAb is a douche. The bloggers do a better job feeding the info, especially Greg here. One of my regular stops, him, nomaas and r.a.b. I dont go anywhere else bc its all garbage, Greg here I get news, nomaas i get humor and r.a.b is a little flare of everything.

  22. What does he know about architecture? I spoke to my dad earlier today (he's a retired architect) and he said there would be no problem keeping that Gate standing.

So it goes in the land of peters....

  23. Didn't they change back the theme song for Yankees baseball on YES? The new one was too slow.

I loved the former one and was disappointed when they changed it at the beginning of the season so it's a good sign.

  24. This is what happens when people believe they are too important to read the whole proposal.

The proposal addresses the "structure support" concept. In fact, they offer the suggestion of using some of the original steel from the 1923 structure to provide that support. The proposal also provides pictures of other structures that have been preserved for those busy important people who don't have time to read or comprehend what they are reading. They can just look at the pretty pictures

Over the past 2 years, there is a section in Washington DC, between Ford Theater and the Verizon Center that has been completely re-built. Part of what they did was keep the existing 3 story fronts of many buildings(some built in the 1800s) to keep the historic flavor of the area and build behind and above the existing structures. They held these building fronts up by using steel columns. For months all you saw were these building fronts with nothing behind them, just air. They were supported by the steel columns. Then they build the new office towers behind and above the structure. Now when you walk down the street, you see the original building fronts and if you look up and behind the building, you see the new office towers.

There is no doubt that the engineering technology is there (as the proposal demonstarted).

As for agreeing or disagreeing with the proposal. I thought the idea was to report and let the reader decide. The concept has merit and the whole idea is to get the story out there for people to dicuss and in this case, hopfully those in charge, will agree that it's worth preserving.

  25. Ugh...

Now Pete's the next Kate Murray (Isles fans will know what I'm talking about). First the lighthouse, now gate 2. Save the gate!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Here comes the Joba we all know and love walks and high pitch counts.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Joba can't start every hitter 2-0. He and his pitchcount are going to implode again.

At least the bullpen has been somewhat rested.

But please Joba, attack the damn strike zone!

    ReplyDelete
  28. If they don't get a run in here I'm gonna flip out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nice GIDP hit for Jeter. Typical. If the SS makes a routine play it is a GIDP. And, he is a great SS according to nomass lol. I gues nomass should try watching a game.

    ReplyDelete
  30. NoMaas never said Jeter was a great SS. At least I don't think they did.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Where have all the people gone?

I'm in Paris and even I am here! Maybe I should get a life.

Anyway, good to pick Joba up after his shaky inning. Matsui really seams back, I doubted him, he proves me wrong so far, hope his streak continues.

    Go Bombers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I dunno Vince.

True about picking Joba up after the rough inning.

    How's Paris?

    ReplyDelete
  33. MLB.com has Joba sitting at 95-96 right now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. it may be early but swisher is just a natural born yankee in my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So far so good for Swish. I really hope it continues.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, in fairness, you couldn't have actually thought this "Gate 2" proposal could have ever came to fruition.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So the point is a guy, on his blog, didn't post something he thought was in his opinion a stupid idea?

Last I checked it's his blog. He doesn't have to cater to all Yankees fans. He doesn't even have to employ journalistic standards you guys talked about. That's what articles in the news are for. If you were looking for him to write something about it even if he disagreed, you forgot what a blog is.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anon,

I agree. No where in this did I say Peter was wrong. I'm just sharing what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  39. yes totally agree, swisher could have been on the WS championship teams, kinda like paulie was a fierce competitor, seems like swisher is just a class clown type, keeps everyone loose. On another good note, JOBA is looking much better, nice to build on Hughes solid start lastnight,

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'd still like to see Cano bat 3rd, TEX 4th, & Posada or Matsui
5th & 6th...Girardi needs to do something to get him going , he just looks terrible, Tex ....

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well Greg, Paris is dark at 3:06 am.

Anyone else from Europe or am I the only freaking European loving baseball in here?

Swisher is great again. I think we can safely say he is a streaky hitter.

    ReplyDelete
  42. lol @ Kenny.

"Why are you bunting with the score at 8-1???????"

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Yanks should keep Pena on the roster when A-Rod comes back. Send Berroa back down.

    ReplyDelete
  44. anyone notice the hearts around cano's name in the score card shot from the stands? singleton said ''ours look very similar''.. . whats up ken? haha

To everyone else on here shitting on Pete for not posting it, specifically this post:

    Will said...
Good journalism would allow one to publish the story without taking a point of view on it. Duuuuuuuuhhhhhhh!

It's a BLOG. You all seem to forget it's his own opinions. If you wanted journalism, read a newspaper.

  50. My point? My only point was updating people on the gate two thing, that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. from what I read, the gate two thing is absolute genius. i mean, the yankees always go for the best but most importantly they do it with class. i talked about this before. if they did the gate 2 project, the yankees would have one of the best tributes to a former ballpark in my eyes.

  52. I am a douchebag.

  53. greg have u ever thought of using coveritlive chat service for game chats?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Like a chat room?

    Yes.

Would you like something like that?

    ReplyDelete
  55. The chat room is a good idea, but sometimes when I post some comments I don't have the time to look what people had to say about them. It is always good to have this to look back. Maybe try both?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'll tell ya, the yankees are doing to the tigers what the sox did to us, and was was stuff 2 good young pitchers down your throat, and beat up your young phenoms with our offense, its good to see.

  62. Great pitch Rivera. Guarantee that you will be the downfall to this season. The same old people doing the same old things....

    ReplyDelete
  63. Trade Melky for JJ Putz!!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. @Anonymous

    is Abraham your boyfriend?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Even though he had a great start tonight, I still think joba will ultimately go back to the bullpen. He has not been consistent enough two be the ace you all think he will be. I think he is at his best when he can just go 1-2 innings and throw just his fastball at 100mph and his slider at 87mph with his max effort motion. The two reasons I feel this way are: 1. Because he looks like it cause his shoulder pain at times throwing that curveball and 2. because he has all the trait to be a great closer: the adrenaline rush coming from the pen, cockiness of just try to blow it by batters and strike all of them out and he is not afraid of failer. Plus some of the league's best closers were starters in the minors like papelbon, k-rod, nathan and a man known as mariano rivera. Think about it, mo has said he is retiring in a year and half, don't know if he will change his mind about that but he can't go on forever. I think Melancon could be a good closer but i see him more as that scot shields type set-up guy who can pitch 2 innings with a low number of pitches thrown. Also if Hughes keeps pitching well, when Wang is ready pitch in the majors again you can't send Hughes down it may destroy his confidence. You especially can't send him down when you have unreliable relievers like Ramirez who I believe I said would be pitching bad because he is overrated. Also bruney is not the answer as future closer and he is a free agent this off-season and has said he wants to become a closer. With Mo locked up until the end of 2010 bruney won't want to stay another year because with a big year this year someone will surely sign him to be their closer. Plus Hughes is a more complete starters than joba because he really mix his pitches and can get quicker outs. Part of the problem with joba is he tries to strike everyone out and can't do that because it will waste his pitch count. The team is better off with him in the pen then you can some night were you have bruney or melancon in the 7th, joba in the 8th leading to mo in the 9th. You could also have a night were joba pitches both the 7th and 8th setting up mo. I also think with those four together you have the new millennium version of "the nasty boys". If the yanks wan to win the world series why not have one of the best line-ups in the league, arguably the best rotation in the game and have the most dominate pen in baseball with mo, joba, bruney and Melancon along with marte, coke and long man like Aceves. if the yanks can do that, I think we would have to be considered the favorites to win it all.
