News & Notes

- Phil Hughes has never started against the Twins.

- Francisco Lirano has only faced the Yankees once in his career, 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. He didn't allow a hit, walked one and struck out one.

- Phil Coke should be available tonight after missing several games with a sore/stiff back.

- Johnny Damon has an extra base hit in ten straight games, tying the franchise record previously held by Don Mattingly (1987) and Paul O'Neill (2001).

- I will be at the game tonight in the upper deck along the first base line. I'll try to throw in a comment or two (maybe more) from the seats. Enjoy the game people, and go Yankees!

Stick around and discuss the game

  2. Why the hell has stubhub cut off ticket sales more than 2hrs before game time? this is insane. Last year I bought tickets 45min before a game. For anyone in Manhattan or north the stadium is easily reachable in 20min.

  17. Matsui ... you're exactly why this team stinks with RISP. You swing at garbage 8 feet in front of the plate. Good teams and good hitters dont do that garbage at crunch time. Simply no excuses again. Same old garbage for 5+ years now from this team.

  19. I think my playing of 'Staying Alive' did the trick.

  20. Swisher should be on the bench and Gardner needs to play every day. I don't get the love affair with Swisher. For the first time in awhile I'm getting excited about this team.

  23. Terrific game, I only wish I could have seen it. I am looking forward to mlb.com posting the game's highlights. I am looking forward to seeing Brett Gardner racing around the bases.

Has anyone noticed how the young kids have been creating much of the excitement lately? Melky, Gardner, Pena, Cervelli... It's refreshing.

On that Levine/Trost posting-- if The Boss were still a force, I believe Trost would be gone by now, Levine would be on thin ice, and George would be trying to figure out how to 'fix' what's wrong with the Stadium. I think George would be very embarrassed at some of the inadequacies of the new Yankee Stadium. But I just don't see Hal & Hank being as heavy-handed as their dad. I've been questioning for some time who is actually running the organization. I suspect Levine has created a mini-empire for himself, so to speak. I don't see Hal as a strong or experienced enough personality to seriously challenge Levine.
