News & Notes

Break up the Yankees? Not so fast:
They've lost the first two games of this series, three of their last four, and four of their last seven. They begin play today just 1.5 games up on the Sox in the AL East.

- A.J. Burnett has started five times against the White Sox and is 2-2, with a 2.78 ERA. The last time he faced them was back on 9/9/2008, and that day lasted 7 innings, and allowed just a run on one hit, walked one and struck out 7. Since May 27th, Burnett is 8-2, with a 2.08 ERA in 11 starts.

- In two career starts against the Yankees John Danks is 1-1, with a 6.10 ERA. In 10.1 innings he's allowed 7 ER on 13 hits, walked 4 and struck out 9.

- The Yankees are 21-12 against left-handed starters this year, which give them the second best record in the league behind only the Angels (22-10).

- The Yankees finished the month of July with an 18-9 record.

- In 2009 the Yanks are 0-10 against teams with the word "Sox" in their name.

- Peter Abraham is reporting that the Yanks have adjusted their starting rotation for the next two series. Andy Pettitte and Sergio Mitre will face the Jays. Joba Chamberlain, A.J. Burnett, CC Sabathia, and Pettitte will start in the Boston series.

Stick around and discuss the game

  1. Shelley should still be up and playing 1st today, or RF and have Swish at 1st. Ransom is garbage and I dont know why the hell he is still here.

  2. Hey Guys, here's another reason why we don't want arroyo...

  3. I'm just curious. Does Girardi want to lose. I mean Ransom and Hairston? Might as well thrown in Molina in todays game.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Boston adds Casey Kotchman to there bench for depth.

LOL Cashman adds Jerry Hairston and keeps Cody Ransom on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  5. And Girardi did a bad job setting up the pitching matchups all season long against the red sox. Sabathia only pitched once against Boston while Boston ace Beckett has already pitched 3 times against the yankees. He sent a struggling Wang to pitch at Fenway.

Finally he set up the right rotation against the red sox.

    ReplyDelete
  6. They had little choice in the matter but to remove Mitre from the Boston series. I also dont think the Martinez trade will help Boston as much as everyone is saying.

    ReplyDelete
  7. A lot of Yankees fans feel that way, I personally can't see how he's not a huge help for them. Not only is he a damn good hitter, but he's one of the better clubhouse guys in the league.

It's easy for Yankee fans to ignore reality, but we've already seen our lead cut by two games in two days, and the Sox did one thing we didn't do at the deadline, and that's improve themselves.

  8. OK, A-Rod on second with nobody out, can they score the run??

    ReplyDelete
  9. lol Posada now 3-for-20 on the road trip. ... A-Rod remains at second.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Then Cano K's for out number two and Melky pops out for the third out. A-Rod didn't move an inch. Great situational hitting Yanks!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hey Carlos, what do you think about Cashman's inaction yesterday?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yep, Greg, you're dead right. Can't waste those scoring opportunities against a good pitcher and a team that's buzzing after winning the first two. Posada is really struggling at the moment and Cano is gutless when it comes to RISP. That's the one thing holding him back from becoming a great player.

    ReplyDelete
  13. P.S. I think the way the Yanks are treating Shelley Duncan is shameful. Either give him another chance or let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Carlos, I added you and Mike to the people who receive email confirmation of comments.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey Greg.. I dont think the yanks had to do something.. i would've liked another pitcher but I think we have all we need in house.. Vmart doesn't scare me going to boston.. Im just Really glad that they didn't get Halladay

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's true Bruce, Cano is embarrassing with men on.

Situational hitting has been a problem with this team all year. That's why they lose against good teams. They consistently fail to get big RBIs.

... Great, bases loaded for the Sox with one out. Looks like Burnett didn't bring his A-game.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Geeez blue no corners today for Burnett?

1-0 White Sox, bases still loaded.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Damn umpire... can't call strikes

    ReplyDelete
  19. And now it's 5-0. This game is over. I have no desire to watch the rest. Enjoy the game people, or at least try to.

    Later people.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Way to go AJ. Walk the No.9 hitter and then fall 2-0 behind Konerko. Now we can see the folly of Cashman not signing another pitcher yesterday. Game over already I fear.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Time for a 2 hour break...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, this game is over. Great pitching Burnett. Way to look like Sergio Mitre.

    ReplyDelete
  23. this road trip started out great, & your gonna let a .500 team blow you out 4 games.... this is the beginning of the end...

    ReplyDelete
  24. First, the Red Sox, now the White Sox. The test of a pitcher's mettle comes in adversity and when his team needs him the most. Thanks for ruining my Sat afternoon AJ.

    ReplyDelete
  25. well obviously Cashman, Girardi & powers that be have there heads up there asses' and are choosing to not pay attention to the glaring needs of this team, ... god i miss GEORGE

    ReplyDelete
  26. We are now in August and we have two guys in the lineup one with a 307 obp and the other with a 265 obp after losing the first two games.

Ransom is hitting 197 but he is still on the team because he is "versatile"

I can understand if Molina was hitting 197 because he is a great defensive backup catcher. But Ransom doesn't do anything well.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cano is a lazy mofo. His last at bat was nothing short of disgraceful with his team 4 runs down. We should have traded his sorry ass ages ago.

    ReplyDelete
  28. McCarver is just awful to listen to but thank god Joe Buck isn't in the booth with him today as well. Tim just said how the reemergence of brian bruney really makes girardi feel comfortable with his bullpen as a nice setup man to go to mariano.

Give me Michael Kay and Ken Singleton

    ReplyDelete
  29. Joe Girardi should be fired for playing this idiot. And Cashman should go for keeping him on the roster.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Who's catching for us today? Oh thats right its Posada. Same old same old. Brilliant GM and manager we have.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Cano plays when he wants too, I agree he should be traded, 2B are easier to find...he's got his contract, he doesn't care anymore, if he had 1/2 the heart Jeter has, he'd win a batting title, & gold glove..

    ReplyDelete
  32. this offseason trade CANO to dodgers for 1 of there outfielders, W/ nady, damon off the books & gone, Swisher isn't an everyday player, AJAX will be up, & then sign Orlando Hudson, he's a better hitter, defender & will come cheaper and has heart... can't win with less then 100% effort, prime example WS teams, Paulie, Scotty B, Tino, had heart....

    ReplyDelete
  33. 20 pitches an inning, thats an awesome ratio AJ, cause our BP is that rested and overall good... I can hear the death rattle now

    ReplyDelete
  34. walk 1 run in is a sin, walking 2 runs in w/ bases loaded, & can't make it out of the 5th, thanks alot AJ,

    ReplyDelete
  35. OH and adjusting the pitching matchups is like putting a bandaid on a severed arm, ....

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ransom: Get back to the Minor Leagues where you belong.

    ReplyDelete
  37. whats wrong with Hinske? or Johnny? or CC?..or any other pitcher cause they are better than Ransom...he is awful

    ReplyDelete
  38. Could have made a game of it if that dipstick hadn't been at the plate.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey just got back to see that awful inning. The fact that he let Ransom hit there tells me all I need to know about Joe Girardi.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Girardi is a loser. If the Yanks win any games it will be in spite of Girardi's presence, not because of it.

    Mike

    ReplyDelete
  41. there are so many problems, walk #9 hitter twice w/ bases loaded, & he's hitting .230, is 1 huge problem, Girardi is another, & don't forget JORGE....

    ReplyDelete
  42. release/trade Molina, Ransom, bring up Cervelli, Pena, dump Mitre, no point in having HUGES in the BP when you don't even have SP's who can make it past the 5th..Bring up AJAX to bring some youth and energy,

    ReplyDelete
  43. it absolutely blows my mind, how stupid hitters are, take a sec, look at the situation, & figure out that the pitcher is gonna pitch you outside to get a weak ground ball to get out of the inning, pathetic, clean house, the coaching staff, all ov them, Eiland, Long, Girardi, they all suckass....

    ReplyDelete
  44. 2 men on, no outs and what happens. F+++ All. Not one of A-Rod, Posada and that useless piece of crap Cano can lay decent wood on the ball. We could still have won this game with the number of chances we've had. If Girardi talks about how much fight there is in this team tonight then he's talking through his ass.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why do I even watch anymore? They arnt winning anything this year!!

    Phillies will have a Dynasty!

    Jay

    ReplyDelete
  46. Is it just me or is anyone else scared right now? Bullpen=Garbage, Defence=Garbage, Hitting=Slipping! Less Power, cant hit with runners in scoring position, Starters=slipping!

Nice going Cash, lets wait for Arroya he's the answer!

    ReplyDelete
  47. It all starts with the injuries to Wang and Gardner. Wang's injury completely destroyed any starting depth they had. Gardner's injury took their best glove and fastest runner out of the lineup. Add to that the poor personnel decisions; Pena and Cervelli in the minors, Molina and Ransom with the big club. Oh, and for some reason Cody Ransom actually plays.

    ReplyDelete
  48. RISP has been a major problem all season and today has been another good (or sad) example.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yet people still don't see a problem with Kevin Long.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Cano has become a complete joke. Only time he ever drives in a runner is off a broken-bat bloop.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Girardi over extended Bruney. Bruney is a short reliever. He was struggling and gave you 1.1 ip scorless. To have him come out for the 7th was stupid. Bruney almost threw 40 pitches.

Is Girardi that scared to use Melancon in the 7th. Melancon only threw 18 pitches last night.

Third night in a row Girardi extended the bullpen pitchers he did with Hughes, Aceves and today with Bruney

    ReplyDelete
  52. Rays won again today and Red Sox are all but certain to sweep Orioles so unless we pull our sox up (pardon the pun), we'll be trailing Boston by the time we meet in the Bronx next week.

    ReplyDelete
  53. ill say it for the 100th time in the past week....WHY IS POSADA BEHIND THE PLATE HE IS AN ABSOLUTE EMBARRASSMENT. I hope im not the only one that just saw the play at the plate...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Another double digit performance by which CATCHER? Why doesn't this happen to any other catcher on the roster? Simple, POSADA SUCKS. This organization is so stupid with its personnel decisions its amazing. This team will NEVER win in the playoffs with Posada catching.

    ReplyDelete
  55. this team fucking blows.. they aint winning shit this year. right now i cant even see them holding onto the wild card let alone the division. and even we do win the wild card, we would have to play the Angels, Red Sox and possibly our new owners the White Sox.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Right, Mr. Sabathia...this is why we signed you: to stop slumps and keep winning streaks going. Let's see how good you are tomorrow. Yanks badly need game four, not just from a standings point of view but from a psychological one too.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Girardi is abusing the bullpen. Bruney threw 35 pitches Coke threw 31 pitchesm Aceves threw 39 pitches, Hughes threw 35 pitches.

Girardi is going to burnout the bullpen. THere was no reason for Coke to even be used today down 4 runs. I cant believe he sent out Bruney again for the 7th. Bruney is a short reliever who just pitched 1.1 scorless innings. That is where he should of used Melancon.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Another great day for Posada. 14 runs allowed.

    ReplyDelete
  59. dude they lost 14-4 people have to mop up when ur starter cant get through 5 innings. These things happen.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Online version of hangman game. I really liked it.
