News & Notes
- The Yanks are 51-19 since the All-Star break. They've also won 64 of their last 88, and at 102-56 they have the best record in all of baseball they've locked up the division and the best record in baseball.
- At 57-23 the Yankees have the best home record in the baseball.
- In four games (two starts) against the Royals, Joba Chamberlain is 0-0, with a 1.98 ERA. In one start this year he lasted 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5.
- Robinson Tejeda has faced the Yanks five times, three as a starter, and is 0-3, with a 7.36 ERA. He faced them once this year as a reliever, and threw 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, walking 3, and striking out 6.
- The Yankees are 4-1 against the Royals this sesaon.
- I won't be around for the game because I'll be over at Giants Stadium for the Springsteen concert. Enjoy the game people. Go Yankees!
Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.
What a crappy lineup.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your waste of money Greg Fohen.
ReplyDeleteThe Yanks are playing all of there regulars today. And mabey Friday most of them will get the day off.
ReplyDeleteUp yours.
ReplyDeleteI normally agree with Flash, but I hate the idea of putting Joba back in the pen just for the ALDS.
ReplyDeleteYB-
ReplyDeleteI think it's to the pen or off the post season roster all together for Joba. He has not proven that he is a big game pitcher yet, and as iffy as AJ has been I don't think that they can go into the post season with two questionable starters.
(I should note that I am of the opinion that he should have been in the pen all along. I think he has the potential to be a lights out closer, but only an average starter at best)
Joba sucks ass.
ReplyDeleteI think putting him back in the bullpen is a horrible idea because the thing I point out a lot to people who want Joba back in the pen, is they need to realize he's not the 100 mile an hour pitcher we loved in '07. He's changed. You can actually mess up his head by putting him back in the bullpen during the playoffs, which is even more pressure packed than the regular season. Then if the Yanks advance to the ALCS you tell him go be a starter again? Do you really want to ruin his career? I understand there is a chance this works, but I don't think it's a good idea at all.
ReplyDeleteHe's not the 100mph pitcher now because he's a starter. If he were in the pen, he'd be that 100mph guy again. He's not now because you can't gas yourself by throwing 100mph and expect to last six or seven innings (not that he lasts that long anyway).
ReplyDeleteYeah. I'm saying he could become that 100mph pitcher again, but it would take some time. And I think it's too late to do that this season. Next year is a whole different story though.
ReplyDeleteGaudin has shown he can get through the lineup twice, and Joba has shown he is erratic. You are only talking about 2 starts, total, one in the ALCS and 1 in the WS, so it's not that big of a deal to put in Gaudin, and follow him with Aceves. In the ALDS you don't even need Gaudin on the roster.
ReplyDeleteHere's my question-- if you have a chance to use Joba as a 95mph 1-inning setup man for the 7th inning, and you could use him in that role 3-4 times in the ALDS, why wouldn't you do that? Think of how differently the opposing manager would have to manage the game if he knows he will be facing Joba-Hughes-Mo in the 7-8-9 innings. That is a huge advantage for the Yankes-- no one else can match that, not even come close to matching that. Same thing in the ALCS and World Series-- and let Gaudin-Aceves handle the one game in each series where a 4th starter is needed. I think Joba in the 7th inning of postseason games is huge for the Yankees. An effective Joba in the 7th ining would be the difference that makes the Yankees the Champs.
I know Joba stunk up the joint again tonight but I can't believe that certain sections of the crowd actually booed him. Wake up people. This is a team that's won 102 games. Not only that, we should be supporting the guy, not kicking him when he's down. Unbelievable.
ReplyDeletesteveb,
ReplyDeletei've been saying that for a while. thank god someone else gets it.
Well, I don't really want a 7th inning guy in the pen but that can work SteveB.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the concert Greg!
ReplyDeleteIts a valid point though Liam, in the last dynasty we had a 7-8-9 punch-out, since about 2000 we havn't had that. Its a vital part of success.
ReplyDeleteTrue.
ReplyDeleteI know we clinched already and Joe had most of his regulars out by the 6th, but how does our A lineup loose to the Royals when our C lineup destroyed them a couple nights ago? Aw well, we came close. These games mean nothing really anyway.
ReplyDeleteOn to October.
well that was craptastic.
ReplyDeleteWell, I was at the game tonight and I have come to the conclusion that I think Joba should be left off the alds roster. He has no purpose. He won't get a start and he can't even be relied on to pitch out of the pen, so why waste a roster spot?
ReplyDeleteJoba has a ton of potential but unfortunately potential doesn't win games. He has proven time and time again that he is completely unreliable.
He can look great at times and at other times look like he is completely lost.
He is one of the most predictable pitchers that I have ever seen. You can guess what he is going to throw constantly.
I think a benching in the alds might actually make him pull his head out of his ass.
Right now if I had to have someone win an important game 4 in the ALCS, I can tell you that there is zero chance that I would start Joba. I have absolutely no faith in him winning a game.
I'd hand the ball to Gaudin.
I didn't see a pitch of the game, glad I missed it, but I agree CF. Joba should not be on the ALDS roster.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I had a great time at the concert so to the idiot who said I wasted my money, fuck you. I had fun, you sat at home and probably didn't.
