PITCHING: Jeff Marquez got the start and took the loss (3-6). Marquez went 6 plus innings giving up 6 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits. He had 2 K's--3 walks. His era is at 5.98. The one bright spot today was he had 14 groundouts and only 2 flyouts...... Marquez gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning on a double, a throwing error he made on a pickoff throw to 1st base, and 2 rbi singles. That gave Indy a quick 2-0 lead........ Indy scored a run in the 3rd on a double, sac bunt, and suicide squeeze bunt to give Indy at 3-2 lead.......Another run scored in the 4th on a double and 2 singles. He left the bases loaded, giving Indy a 4-2 lead......Marquez pitched scoreless 5th & 6th innings......He started the 7th inning hitting a batter and giving up a walk before being relieved.
Scott Strickland relieved Marquez in the 7th with 2 on and no outs and got both men he faced out........Heath Phillips came on and made a throwing error on a pickup throw to 1st base and 2 runs scored, both charged to Marquez. That made the score 6-2 in the 7th inning......Phillips struck out the side in the 8th inning......Chris Britton pitched a scoreless 9th inning.
OFFENSE: SWB scored a run in the bottom of the 1st when Justin Christian walked and scored on and infield hit by Jason Lane and an error........In the 2nd inning, singles by Greg Porter and Bernie Castro and an rbi single by Wilson Betemit scored the 2nd SWB run......SWB picked up a solo run in the 8th when Cody Ransom walked, JD Closser singled, and Greg Porter got the rbi with a sac fly.....In the 9th the 4th run scored when Brett Gardner walked and scored on a Jason Lane rbi double making the final score 6-4.
NOTES: Wilson Betemit made 3 rehab starts and is on his way back to NY......Jeff Karstens gets the start Monday at Pawtucket.
