This time, it didn't happen in the dugout. And this time, it wasn't caught on camera. But for the second time this season, Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez was involved in an altercation involving someone within the organization. At least Manny did choke McCormick. But shouldn't there be some sort of punishment for this? Chacon was suspended indefinitely, and then released without pay, and Manny gets nothing. I know, Manny is a hall of famer, and the Red Sox don't want to suspend him, because, well, it will hurt the team on the field, but what kind of message does this send? If you are a superstar you can basically do whatever you want. Had it been Julio Lugo who shoved McCormick he'd be suspended right now.
According to a report in the Providence Journal, Ramirez pushed long-time team traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the floor in the visitors clubhouse in Houston this past weekend following a spat over a ticket request.
A contrite Ramirez apologized to McCormick - who is universally popular among the players -- the next day.
"That's over," Ramirez told the Providence Journal on Sunday. "We're fine now."
