Today is July 2nd, which begins the international free agent signing period. This is when teams can sign international players that weren’t eligible for the draft, usually players from Latin America. And players must be at least 16-years-old to sign.
According to Kiley McDaniel of Baseball Prospectus, the Yanks made their signing of Dominican catcher Gary Sanchez official. He signed for close to $3 million, which, as Ben Badler points out, is thehighest bonus the Yanks have ever given to a hitter. I posted a little of BP's scouting report on him here.
They have also reportedly signed SS Damian Arredondo for $850,000, and Domincan RHP Chris Cabrera for $400,000.
thank God for the Steinbrenner owners ! Always willing to spend the dough for their organization. This is the way to do ! Keep it going Steins !
ReplyDelete"The Yankees will have interest in flame-throwing lefty Aroldis Champan once he establishes residency in another country and becomes a free agent, according to Yahoo's Tim Brown and ESPN.com's Jorge Arangure Jr.. The 21-year-old just defected from Cuba and his agent says he could be ready for the majors by spring."
ReplyDeleteI really hope we get this kid. 100 MPH from the pen can be devastating, as we've seen.
Wow. Thanks for that great piece of info Anon. Now I want the Yanks to sign him as well.
ReplyDeleteDon't know too much about these players and how good they are, except Gary Sanchez. But I guess the Yankees do if they signed them, so hopefully these players evolve into good prospects in the coming years.
ReplyDeleteOff Topic right here, The bum ass Mets are losing 5-0 come back to make it 8-6 and that loser K Rod just gave up a 2 run bomb to LaRoche. God the Mets suck.
ReplyDeleteIm wondering if the Yankees are still going sign Noel Arguelles and Jose Iglesias. I havent heard any word on either of these guys signing today, so hopefully the Yankees get it done.
