Another Pathetic Effort From The Yankees' Offense

A very good pitching performance from Mike Mussina, and the bullpen was wasted tonight because the Yankees' batters took the night off against the worst pitching staff in baseball.

Mussina held one of the better offenses in the league to 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings pitched. He also struck out 8 Rangers, while walking 2. In relief Edwar Ramirez, Jose Veras, and Dan Giese pitched 3 scoreless innings, but again, it was all a wasted effort.

With the loss the Yanks also missed an opportunity to gain a game on the Wild Card leading Red Sox, who lost to the Rays tonight. Instead they fell to 6.5 games out of first place with the Rays' win.

They're now 4-6 since their 7-game winning streak. So much for the team turning things around.

RANGERS PITCHING

This team once again made a horrible pitcher look like Sandy Koufax, tonight the pitchers being Scott Feldman. Feldman picked up his first career win on the road tonight. Sad, isn't it?

The Yankees' "offense" could only score one measly run off the Feldman, a solo HR from Alex Rodriguez. The homer tied Jimmie Foxx for 14th place on the all-time home run list with 534.

Just like yesterday the Yanks went o-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

In his Major League debut Brett Gardner went 0-for-3, with a stolen base.

What chance the Yanks taking the 6 out of 9 they need from this homestand now? There's always a danger of the "bounce" factor after the Subway Series but four hits against that pitching was indeed pathetic. I feared the worst when we failed to score with two on and none out in the second inning. What concerns me most were the bad at bats from some of our senior players. Was that really Derek Jeter at the plate?

Jeter looked awful yesterday, but then again so did everyone besides A-Rod. Melky has been lost at the dish for two full months now, and he may need to sit soon.
